Chapter Text
"There have been an unusual serial killing in several cities in Korea— as of now, there are no clues on who did this or if there is an organization behind this atrocious crimes. But there are two things the victims have in common: a bite mark in their neck and blood dried bodies.
Experts say that this might be done by vampires. They have been making research upon this and currently investigating on the case. They refused to give any more explanations as they will release a presscon when they have come to a conclusion."
It was a peaceful evening. Suho discreetly left the academy by jumping over the fence to go to his nightly stroll and smoke. Due to the rules in the academy and as a vampire hunter— it is a taboo to taint the body as it must be kept healthy in order to avoid illnesses that could weaken them. Vampire hunters protects the people, after all.
But before Suho had become a hunter, he was only a normal teenager who went to normal high school, doing part time jobs, living with his grandmother and whatnot. He just can't change himself overnight and stop smoking the moment the Hunters Association scouted him. Like they say, old habits die hard.
So he sneaks out the academy every 3 AM (to make sure that everyone is asleep) and smokes outside. Just as he was about to turn to his usual spot in the alley beside the convenience store, Suho caught a glimpse of a man with a small build, a bigger man in his arms— both of his hands clasping onto the latter's biceps. Hold on- is he sucking on his neck?
A vampire? Is Suho supposed to kill it? But how? He doesn't even have weapons, neither enough knowledge and training.
The vampire hunter froze in his feet. He couldn't move. He knows he should. But before he could even make any movements, the vampire made an eye contact with him. His bloody red eyes glinting under his long bangs. A shiver ran down Suho's spine.
Suho ran away.
Scrambling on his feet, Suho ran desperately, the adrenaline making him faster. He didn't call for help. Asking for help would make bigger issues; the association will find out about him not abiding by the rules, they'll kick him out, make sure he won't get any opportunities in everything, and his grandma would be disheartened and disappointed in him. That's the last thing that Suho wants. It was thanks to the association that he's still earning great amount of money, and he can't lose that. At least not yet. So instead, he just returned to his dorm in the academy and forced himself to sleep.
The next day, when the bells ring at 6AM, Suho washes up, heads to the dining hall to eat his breakfast and goes to his class room. Based on the rules and regulations, trainees who are still students must attend classes every 7AM to 12 PM. The class program is divided into two: the first few hours of the class is for basic education; language, mathematics, sciences, literary, while the second half after lunch break consists of education regarding vampires. After that, the students are meant to have a physical training on how to use weapons, how to eliminate vampires and so on. The training only ends at 6 PM- where they eat dinner then idle around until their designated time for sleeping: 9 PM.
Suho yawns in his seat before he lays his head down the table to take a nap. Thanks to his seat being at the back beside the door, Suho had many opportunities to take a nap in between classes. He gets scolded for it sometimes, though. But it's only homeroom, so maybe it would be okay for him to snooze.
Just as he was about to go to his dreamland, Suho hears the door open and Ms. Lee, their homeroom teacher and counselor says, "Alright, settle down, Class 2. I have an announcement to make." While she says that, the clanking of chairs make noise, meaning that the students were probably going back to their assigned seats. "We have a new student and a trainee."
That statement piques Suho's interest, making him sit properly. Ms. Lee looks at the door, mouthing a 'come in'. The new student enters the room, his long bangs almost covering his eyes, his physique wasn't any outstanding and he was a head smaller than Suho (probably). "Introduce yourself," Ms. Lee instructs.
"I'm Yeon Sieun, 18 years old, and I came from Eunjang High School. Nice to meet you all." Well, his voice was definitely not Suho was expecting. Given his soft features, Suho thought he'd have a soft voice, but his voice was a total opposite of that. He had a deep and manly voice. Cool. "I'm expecting you guys to be on your best behavior and treat him well, alright?" Ms. Lee says, earning a "Yes!" from the students. "You may sit next to Suho," she points at him. Wait, what? "Suho, you're in charge of this one. He'll be your roommate, so I need you to guide him about this place, okay?" What?! "Do you understand?" she asks, emphasizing every word.
Suho had no choice but to nod and utter a small 'yes'. The new student, Sieun, silently takes a seat next to him and takes out his notebook and pens. He seems like a smart person. And he smells.. weird. Weirdly good. He smells like the forest, and it kind of makes Suho feel sleepy. Sieun must've noticed Suho sniffing him like a creep, because he turns to his side and offers his hand, "Nice to meet you." Suho was perplexed at first, but he shook his hand after a second and replies, "Nice to meet you."
"You may now have your lunch."
The first half of the class ends and the students dashes out of the room to goes to the dining hall. Sieun was still tidying his things up when he noticed his seatmate sleeping. He taps Suho's shoulder once, then twice, and again until Suho jolted up, "What is it?" he says with a panicked expression.
"It's lunch time," replies Sieun in a monotone voice. "Oh. Yeah. Uh.. Let's go. I'll give you a tour." Suho stood up, stretching his arms and cracking his neck. Sieun walked behind Suho, and when he notices it, he urges the transferee to walk beside him. Sieun does as what he's told and silently catches up his pace.
"Okay, so our class program is divided into two. At 6 AM, we wake up, wash up, eat breakfast at the dining hall, then at 7, we go to our rooms. From 7 AM to 10 AM, we have our basic education class where they teach us stuff that are taught in normal schools. But only the important subjects, though. Then after lunch time, we have our vampire education class. Which means they teach us stuff about vampires because they said," Suho makes a quotation gesture using his two hands, "in order for us to eliminate them, we must get to know them well first." he says, "The second half of the class is only 2 hours and then after 12 noon, we change in our training attires and go to the field to have a training until 6 PM. Then after that we eat dinner and sleep at 9 PM." Suho explains as they walk towards the dining hall.
The two gets in line for the food, "But you gotta be careful though, the counselor for each class takes a nightly round and they check every room to make sure that everyone is sleeping. If you're caught, you will be given punishment by the head counselor." Suho whispers, getting his share of foods.
The two takes a seat on an empty table. "We also have a locker here, have you seen them?" Sieun nods, "I don't have to tell you about the association and this academy's rules, right? I assume the association already explained it all to you when they scouted you since that's what they did for me."
"Yeah, and they gave me a booklet for more informations about the association." Suho nods, his cheeks full of spoonful rice, like a chipmunk. "Hm.. what else do you need help for?" Suho adds. "So far, I have none. I'll just ask you if I have any more questions." Sieun answers.
"Okay, okay, you do that, and I'll enjoy my meal."
It was past lunch break and all students are in their training areas. Suho had showed Sieun where to change into their proper attires— though the new student had no suit because he has to get his body measured and have his own personalized suit— thankfully, Suho had a spare suit. Though Suho tries to hold back his laughter when he saw how oversized his suit is on Sieun, he failed and ended up guffawing.
"What?" Sieun grumbles. "Sorry- Hold on-" Suho laughs, "It's just so- you look small!"
"I am smaller than you physically."
Suho's laughter dies down, "Yeah, yeah whatever you say! Let's go before we become late!" he grins, swinging an arm over Sieun's shoulder. The moment he does that, the latter pushes him off with a scrunched expression. Did Suho do something wrong? "Sieun?"
"Sorry. I'm just.. Can you not do that?"
Ow. "Uh, yeah. Sure. Sorry about that."
"It's fine. Just don't do it again."
It was awkward that Suho wanted to run away or bury himself six feet under, but they managed to arrive in the field five minutes before they're labeled as late. The two went to different lines and listened as the mentor was explaining the new weapons.
"As you can see, this is a bow made of hydrogen and helium. Like we discussed the other day, vampires are weak for sunlight, and sunlight consists..?" Mr. Na asks the students sitting on grass, "Hydrogen and helium!"
"Good! Now get yourself one of those plastic bows and I'll teach you how to shoot."
"Yes sir!"
Thanks to Suho's experience of being an athlete, he was able to learn how to shoot with a bow within 30 minutes. At first, his aim was very off, but the more he tries, the more his stance gets comfortable and he was able to shoot directly into the target. "Good job!" Mr. Na lets out a "Haha!" He then pats Suho on his shoulder twice and says, "Go and assist the other trainees."
"Yes, sir"
Suho goes over to Sieun's area only for him to see how he turns out to be surprisingly bad. "Hey, do you need any help?" Suho asks. Suho jolts up, turning his head slowly to see the other smiling softly. "Hey," Sieun utters, "I'm good."
"You sure?"
Sieun nods. Then tries again.
Yep. Still bad.
Suho snickers, "Woah.. Amazing... You almost hit the target board behind yours" he laughs. "Fine. I need help with my stance." Sieun says, but Suho's laughter still hasn't died down. He's so annoying. "Stop laughing.."
"Alright, alright!" Suho calms himself down, letting out a "whew" and walks over to Sieun's spot. He guides the boy by getting behind him and placing his arms in a specific position. "Relax your muscles," Suho was right. Sieun is a head smaller than him. His hair smells good. What kind of shampoo does he use? "Relax, okay? Make sure to take deep breaths before you shoot. It helps with the trembling of hands." Suho almost whispers. Fuck, he really smells good. Like a soft breeze in a forest.
"Shoot," Suho mutters.
And just like that, Sieun's aim improved.
"See? I knew you could do it!" Suho grins, stepping out of the smaller boy's personal space, "Keep shooting with that stance and you'll be fine. You're a fast learner."
"Alright." Sieun replies, "Thanks."
It was 6 PM when the bells rang, meaning that it's time for their dinner. "Do you know where the dorm is?" Suho asks Sieun who was picking up the arrows he used. "Yeah, you can go on ahead," says the other. Suho nods and whistled his way to the dorm. "Ugh, I stink.. I need to take a shower," he tells himself. Each dorm room is quite big. Each room has two solo beds, two study tables, a tv, a huge built in closet for two, and a bathroom. That way, they don't have to run all the way to the public restroom when they need to.
"913.. 913.." Suho mumbles as he finds their dorm room. Once he arrives at their room, he types out the passcode and enters the place, the motion sensor light brightening up. Suho inhales, "Finally!" he exhales, diving into his bed, mumbling a "I'm so tired~!" against the pillow.
A second later, loud snores were the only noise filling the dorm room. Suho had fallen asleep. So much for complaining about being stinky.
Until nonstop banging on the door made him jolt up. "Ah," was the first word that came out of the boy's mouth. Fuck. Then he hears the banging once again, louder, and louder. "Hold on!" Suho yells, getting up from the bed, removing his shirt and then walking to the door. He really needs to take a quick shower.
A heaving Sieun with his head down welcomed Suho the moment he opened the door. Oh shit. He forgot that he didn't tell Sieun the passcode. "Shit, sorry, I forgot to tell you-" before he could even finish his sentence, a strong push from the other had him taken aback. Suho was pushed from the entrance to his bed— Sieun on top of him.
What the hell?
"Sieun?"
And there it was. The familiar intimidating yet alluring red eyes. Suho's breath was stuck in his throat, he couldn't move. Just like that night. He froze even more so when Sieun slowly closed the proximity between them, their noses almost touching. Suho couldn't think. Was he supposed to get out of here? Hell, is Sieun even himself right now? Sieun inhales, "You smell sweet.." he says, voice hoarse and almost as if he was growling.
"What?"
Then Sieun moves his face to Suho's neck. It really didn't help that Suho was topless. "You smell so sweet.." Sieun hums, licking the other's neck, sending shivers down Suho's spine. "Sieun?! What are-?!" He got cut off again when he felt a needle-like pierce his skin. Is that teeth?! Suho uses all his strength to push Sieun down, making their positions switch. Suho used his forearm to push down Sieun's neck.
"Get a hold of yourself!" Suho huffs.
Suho wished that was enough to make Sieun snap out of it, but like he had suspected, Sieun really had long, thin, sharp fangs. He got paler than he did earlier, and his eyes were blood red.
He recalls Dr. Choi, their mentor in vampire education, told the class on how to tell if someone is a vampire. Long fangs. Pale skin. Red eyes. Sharp claws.
Then it all came together.
Sieun is a vampire?!
