Work Text:
It was a common occurrence. Girls were naturally drawn to Reo’s charm after all. A few months earlier he would have just told them he was playing football with Nagi. But now, after everything that had happened in Blue Lock, things were different. Today, Reo was happily engaging in a conversation with the girls who were clearly flirting with him. Smiling and laughing at the girl’s irritating attempts to get Reo interested them.
The other guys from Blue Lock and U-20 were talking about going to the bowling hall, but Nagi couldn’t pay attention to them. The situation around Reo bothered Nagi more. Not in the usual way of not feeling the motivation to do anything, but instead a gnawing feeling in his chest as he watched Reo give his full attention to the girls. Nagi looked up at the roof, trying to put a finger on this feeling. Am I hungry or something? Can we leave soon? The guys seemed to have concluded something and Nagi looked at Reo again as he laughed again at something the girls said.
“Reo, we are going to the bowling hall!” Bachira shouted across the corridor. “Are you coming with us?”
Reo looked up, halting his conversation.
“Of course,” Otoya added. “We understand if you want stay here too.”
Otoya winked at one of the girls who laughed in response.
“Yeah, Reo.” the girl with dyed hair said and casually touched his arm. “Why don’t we book a room? I bet you are an amazing singer Reo. You wouldn’t mind that right?”
“Eh…” Reo said, sounding hesitant.
Before he could reply Nagi felt himself move, walking up to the little group. Glaring at the girl holding Reo’s arm before she decided to let go.
“Reo is coming with us.” Nagi said shifting his gaze to Reo as the other girls looked up at him surprised.
He was well over a head taller than them, so it would be bothersome looking down, hurting his neck. It was easier to look at Reo, who looked at him as surprised as the girls, his mouth slightly open.
“Oh?” one of the other girls said, looking at Reo and then at Nagi again. “Well maybe Reo should answer that?”
Reo cleared his throat and Nagi kept himself from glaring at the girl, looking into the wall instead. Why did I butt in, in the first place?
“Ah. You’re right. Reo should decide.” Nagi agreed not wanting to argue over such a thing.
He usually wouldn’t even care about things like this, so Nagi decided to blame it on being hungry, despite having eaten not long ago. The girl with the dyed hair whispered something to one of the other girls looking back and fourth at him and Reo. The other girl let out a small laugh.
“Well it seems your… friend, wants you to go with him, Reo.” The girl snickered.
Reo smiled at them, ignoring their tone, but then walked up to Nagi before turning to them again.
“Thank you for the invitation, but I am going with my friends today.” Reo said. “It was nice meeting you, maybe I can give you my number…”
Nagi almost hurriedly looked back towards the door where the others were already walking out.
“Reo. They are leaving.” he said.
You won’t have time to give them your number. Nagi was unsurprisingly not in the least sympathetic for them.
“What?” Reo said and noticed the dilemma. “I am so sorry, but I need to hurry. I hope we’ll see each other again!”
He just being polite again… Reo started running and Nagi jogged after, but not until after sticking out a tongue at the girls left behind, who glared at him. It was surprising that he felt a sense of accomplishment just for getting Reo away from some girls, but for now Reo had at least payed him a bit more attention again. Nagi quickly caught up to Reo as he slowed in before opening the doors out.
“Hey. What was that about, Nagi?” Reo suddenly asked he opened the door for them.
Nagi quickly stepped through with Reo close after.
“Hmm…” Nagi said looking up at the clouds in the sky.
He noticed one had a swirling shape, vaguely looking like a river.
“I was probably hungry.” he finally answered.
Reo let out a half-hearted laugh and walked past him.
“Classic you…” he said. “Let’s catch up with the others, before they get on the train.”
Nagi nodded and despite it being bothersome to walk faster, he kept up the pace as Reo sped up.
