Chapter 1: a doctor

Chapter Text

Warning; kidnapping i guess?

The door opened. It was a door that was actually meant to be there. The same one that had always been there or had been at least as long as Jon had been tied to this stupid chair.

The person or at least he looked human, wasn’t Nikola either. He had short, spiky brown hair and was wearing a long brown pinstripe overcoat on top of a blue suit.

He didn’t look like anyone Jon had seen before.

“Hello” he says “I’m the Doctor”

That didn’t help. At Least he didn’t seem like a threat or like he was part of the Circus. Jon said nothing due to the gag shoved in his mouth. The Doctor seems to realize this.

“How about I get you out here?”

He pulls a weird tube of metal out of the inside of his overcoat and waves it at Jon as it makes a weird noise. The ropes keeping him tied to the chair fall to the floor.

Jon pulls the gag out of his mouth. "Just the Doctor?”

“Just the Doctor”

A noise comes from the corridor outside. “Shall we get out of here then?”

Jon didn’t have any better options and the man didn’t seem like an immediate threat, so Jon pushed himself to his feet and followed as the man ran out of the room. There would be time to ask more questions later. Preferably back at the institute

This so-called Doctor seemed to have made quite an impact on his way into the circus. Jon presumed that was why he was so eager to leave.

The doctor leads the way through the maze of passages, running as Jon does his best to follow behind, mind buzzing with questions. (look he was never the fittest person on earth, and he did just spend a month tied to a chair).

Eventually they come to a blue police box, looking wildly out of place in some side storage room. The doctor looks back at him and gestures for him to follow as he clicks his fingers, and the door slides open.

It doesn’t look like it will fit both of them but it's not like Jon has much of a choice.

It's better than getting skinned at least.

The box is bigger on the inside.

Jon says this out loud without meaning too and the Doctor smiles.

“I love it when people do that.”

Jon has a lot of questions he wants to ask but he's interrupted by the sound of something banging repeatedly on the door. The doctor doesn’t seem worried by this at all. Jon thinks he probably should be.

“Well then” the Doctor says, “who are you and where you’d want to go?”

“Jon” he says “Jonathan Sims”.

The ‘where you want to go’ part makes him short circuit for a moment. He can’t go back to his flat, the police are looking for him. He can’t go to Georgie’s; he’d be putting her in danger. There's only one place to go.

The doctor must take his silence for confusion about how instead of where because he pats the controls that stand in the middle of the space. “This is the TARDIS, she can go anywhere in space and time. Anywhere and when you want to go!”

(Jon hadn’t even though about the how)

If he can’t go back to his flat and he can’t go back to Georgie’s then there's only one place he can go. “The magnus institute”

The doctor starts flipping switches. “The magnus institute it is!”

“I’d hold on if I was you” he adds “can get a bit bumpy.”

“ALLONS-Y”

A loud noise fills the air as Jon holds on to the railing for dear life.

When he opens the door, he finds himself standing on the footpath outside the institute.

He wonders which of the entities the Doctor works for, since there was no way that was possible. The doctor at least doesn’t seem to want him dead.

He turns to thank the Doctor and says goodbye but finds him standing on the concert next to him, hands shoved in his pockets.

“What are you waiting for?” he says “let's go.”

“You’re coming with me?” Jon asks “they’re not going to let you.”

“Of course I’m coming. It's an adventure!” the doctor bounces on his heels “and don’t worry about me getting in”.

He pulls something out of his pocket, a leather wallet like you’d keep identification in. When he shows Jon what's inside it reads ‘John Smith, Archive employee’.

“John Smith?” Jon asks “is that your name? Doctor John Smith”

Extremely generic but it does at least give him something to follow up on when he gets someone to look into this mysterious doctor.

“No, I’m just the Doctor but people tend to ask less questions that way”

Jon followed the Doctor as he started off for the door of the institute. He still had a lot of questions.

“Jon!” Martin calls the moment he sees him “you're okay!”

Tim scoffs from where he is sitting, feet up on his desk, clearly not working. “Of course he's fine! You heard what Elias says he was on holiday ”

“That how he explained it” Jon sighed “I got kidnapped by the Circus”

Tim almost falls out of his chair. “What?”

At the same time the Doctor speaks up “I was wondering” he turned to Jon “how did you end up getting kidnapped by Autons?”

Now everyone is confused, excellent “a what?”

“An Auton” the Doctor repeats “you know looks like a shop mannequin? Made of living plastic?”

“I was captured by the Stranger?”

It's very clear that no one here has any idea what the others are talking about. “Look” Jon says “I don’t quite know what's going on either, but I was captured by the Stranger”

Jon realised that he now needs to explain what he means by that. "it’s the fear of the uncanny, the not quite right, mannequins, and all that, it’s got a bit of a circus theme”.

“I was wondering what was up with all the circus stuff” the Doctor says, seemingly to no one.

“who are you then?” Martin asks.

“Oh I’m the Doctor. I’m a Timelord from the planet Gallifrey”

Jon’s brain shuts down for a moment. Aliens? Really? But at this point who cares? If entities that feed on fear from outside the universe are real, why not aliens?

The Doctor bounces on his heels again “why don’t we all sit down, have a cup of tea and you properly explain what is going on?”

Jon wonders how the archives don't have any statements on the Doctor.

(The archives does have statements about the Doctor, but since all those cases deal with the extraterrestrial and not the paranormal Getrude had put them in their own box and Jon simply hasn’t found them yet.

It might interest you to know that the archives has another box labelled ‘Winchesters’)
