Crèchemaster Zoppo Fand had left their crèche in the capable hands of Padawan Obi Wan Kenobi for only a few minutes. Obi Wan had spent time with the younglings before and they were always pleased to see him. When Zoppo returned, they found their clan engaged with Obi Wan in a tea party. He was wearing the ribbon crown that indicated that he was probably playing the role of some kind of noble or dignitary.
They watched from the door as ‘tea’ was poured from the cast-plast teapot, a bright pink toy that did not quite match any of the rest of the play tea set. Zoppo did not know where it had come from, but it, like many of the toys, had been in the crèche since Zoppo themself had been a youngling.
Obi Wan took his cup of ‘tea’ with great pomp, thanking the youngling who had poured the ‘tea’ in an affected accent that was clearly a mimicry of his grandmaster, or perhaps of his master doing his own mimicry of Master Dooku.
There was a great deal of stifled giggling as the younglings, old enough that they could actually stifle their laughter, as Obi Wan pretended to take a sip of the ‘tea’. Obi Wan frowned in an over-exaggerated manner.
“What kind of tea is this?” He asked.
“Poison tea.” The younglings chorused, still stifling their giggles. They were all, except Haadaruv, the Wookie youngling incapable of speaking Basic, were doing their own imperfect versions of the accent Obi Wan was doing.
“I see.” Obi Wan said. “I have fallen into your trap. Is this a poison that will kill me?”
“Yes.” Patha said, the Togruta youngling looked very serious and it made Zoppo smile. Obi Wan nodded solemnly.
He began to monologue, his character was clearly at least slightly villainous. Zoppo left them to it, stepping in to the fresher to wash their hands. When they returned, Obi Wan had trailed off, collapsing backwards onto the padded floor of the play area. Haadaruv and Gali dashed off into the sleeping quarters.
“That’s not right.” Rela-Dume said, the Kadas’sa’Nikto youngling leaning over and searching for Obi Wan’s pulse on his neck. “When you die your eyes stay open and your tongue sticks out Obi Wan.” Zoppo stifled a laugh of their own as Obi Wan immediately obliged.
Haadaruv and Gali returned with a sheet stripped off of one of the beds.
“We have a shroud.” Gali announced and the two of them laid it out next to Obi Wan. Zoppo lent their assistance as the younglings lifted him with the Force, and he felt Obi Wan lending his own assistance to the proceedings even as they wrapped him snuggly in the sheet. He was buried under all of the pillows and stuffed creatures that could be found with much ceremony.
Zoppo watched them fondly. They would miss seeing this group of younglings every day when they moved into the initiate dorms at the end of the year.
Eventually, once Obi Wan, or King Misa Palmeri as his character was apparently called, had been throughly buried and properly eulogized, Zoppo stepped in.
“It is almost time for midday meal.” They said as the younglings gathered around them. “Perhaps we could unbury Padawan Obi Wan so that he can join us?”
Just as Zoppo finished their sentence, the pillows and stuffed creatures exploded outwards and a pillow fight was initiated. Zoppo quickly extracted themself and retreated back to their observation point to watch the fight between Zombie King Misa Palmeri and the younglings of Snow Falcon clan and ensure that there were no actual injuries to be had.
