A Spark of Warmth

Summary:

Shaak Ti had never had a Force vision before.

Week 3 Prompt: Visions

Work Text:

Shaak Ti had not experienced a vision once in her life, and she had expected to never get one. She knew about them, knew that they could happen to anyone at any time, but in truth it had not felt much like anything who had ever told her about their visions had described. It had just seemed like a warm dream to hold on to in the face of the cold fear of war.

It was one of the things she held on to as the war had grown longer and the warm moments became few and far between, even so far away from the front as Shaak and her battalion were.

But now, in her quarters at the Temple, the war over, her people safe, she gathered with several members of the Jedi High Council in her quarters.

They were cooking together, and Shaak was struck with a strong sense of having brought to fulfillment a future that had been in flux.

“I had a vision of this moment.” She said softly, setting the knife that she had been using to cut some tubers off to the side.

“I’m glad that of all the visions of the end of the war that have been seen, this is the one that came to fruition.” Mace said, his voice weary. Shaak was pushing comfort to him through the Force even before she was fully facing him. He was on the couch, Depa and Obi Wan curled up on either side of him. Shaak was pretty sure both of them had fallen asleep.

“Me too.” Shaak said. She approached the couch, pressing a kiss to Depa’s forehead and smoothing Obi Wan’s hair back out of his face. She didn’t have the details about all of them but she knew many of them had been awful. “You can sleep to Mace. Plo and I’ve got the watch.”

“I don’t trust you not to burn the stew.” Mace said and Shaak huffed.

“I will watch the stew.” Plo said. “Have no fear.” Shaak glanced over her shoulder at him, eyes narrowed.

“I’m being slandered.” She said haughtily. “I have never burnt stew, or anything else in my life.”

Both Plo and Mace laughed outright at the blatant lie.

“Go to sleep Mace.” Shaak said, turning back to him. He smiled tiredly as Shaak leaned down and pressed a kiss to his forehead as well, and closed his eyes.
