Chapter Text
Midoriya was drowning. He would gasp for air, but he wasn't even able to do that. He desperately tried to tear the sludge away from his face, but his attempts were fruitless.
The fresh injuries scattered on his body burned as the villain suffocated him; a bone-deep pain. It felt like fate, to the teenager; having his life stolen the day he was told to give it up.
Is this how I die? He wondered, Alone under a bridge with one person to mourn me? He was fighting to keep his eyes open as the last of his consciousness began to abandon him.
In that moment, Midoriya was fully prepared to die. He unwillingly relaxed the muscles in his arms and the darkness playing at the edges of his vision finally washed over him.
It was almost tranquill, in a sense. Well, it was until Midoriya was kicked so hard he slammed into a wall. (Zero out of ten, he did not recommend)
Iida frowned at the notebook abandoned in the pond in front of him. Reluctantly, he reached into the water to retrieve it. The cover was burnt, as were most of the internal pages, and it was completely soaked.
Usually, he would've simply left it out to dry and for the owner to discover at a later date, but something about the font-like kanji on the cover made him pause. He looked around, as if for witnesses, before peeling the first page open. By some miracle, the writing inside was mostly legible and, curiosity piqued, Iida began to read.
Merely three pages in, Iida was astounded. The sheer depth of the analysis was enough to make a professional hero practically beg the author to work for them, and the witty remarks scattered across the page were rather hilarious.
He gently closed the notebook, slipped it into his bag, and immediately pulled out his phone to explain the situation to his brother.
"It said it belongs to a 'Midoriya Izuku'." He recalled, "Have you heard of an analyst with that name?"
Iida bit back a groan at his brother's negative response. The teenager kicked a stone, watching as it rolled along the pavement as Tensei began a rant about how important paying analysts was. A small flicker of movement caught his eye, and he gasped as he caught sight of a student being suffocated by some kind of sludge beneath the bridge in front of him.
Iida gave himself no time to think before he jumped into action. He almost dropped his phone and, using his quirk, kicked through the slime, forcing the boy out of the villain's reaches.
The boy, probably the same age as Iida himself, was rather green, and not just in the face. He was scraped up and bruised and Iida really didn't have time to look at him any more before the villain turned to face him, violent desperation burning in his eyes.
Iida felt his own eyes widen and he raised an arm in a fruitless attempt of defence from the oncoming attack, scrunching his eyes closed tightly as he prepared for the worst.
Thankfully, he didn't need to, as a rather expensive looking car rammed the villain, going straight over it. The window rolled down and Iida felt his jaw drop open as Nezu, the principal of UA stuck his head out, and reversed back over the criminal before pressing a button that caused the back seat door to fly open.
"Hop in!" He called, far, far too cheerfully for someone who'd just been involved in a crime with multiple witnesses.
Iida, who was not neurotypical enough to know the correct response in the scenario (He made a mental note to Google the 'right' way to act when a pro hero hits someone with a car in front of him), gently picked up the barely conscious greenette in front of him, walked to the car and slid inside, making sure the boy had his seat belt on before closing the car door behind him.
Iida sat as still as possible, shifting occasionally to make sure the teenager didn't slip out of the seat belt before going back to what would be awkward silence if it weren't for the music blasting from Nezu's radio. (The song was classical, and reminded Iida of a pre-quirk game that he'd heard of, but he couldn't remember what it was called)
The journey was short, too short and not in the sense that Iida wanted it to last longer. It didn't take as long as it should have because Nezu was breaking even more laws and decimated the speed limit most of the way to UA. By the time they arrive, fortunately (or unfortunately, Iida hadn't decided yet) the teenager had woken up. Almost as soon as he did so, however, he screamed. Iida didn't blame him.
(In all honesty, he wanted to scream too.)
When Midoriya woke up in the back of a car with the radio playing the five nights at freddy's theme song, he screamed. Absolutely nobody could fault him for that; the last thing he remembered was someone trying to kill him and, pulling up to UA (not very well, the car wheels were thoroughly introduced to the curb) in a vehicle being driven by someone who probably couldn't reach the brakes and some random teenager sitting next to him, he was a little panicked, sue him.
In Midoriya’s opinion, it was a rather small reaction to the situation. He turned to the stranger next to him, who looked as if he'd just witnessed a murder. (Unbeknownst to Midoriya, he might have.)
"Hello, I'm Midoriya Izuku, what the fuck is going on?"
"Hello, Midoriya-San, I'm Iida Tenya. I have no idea what's happening."
Fair enough, Midoriya thought, looking out the window as Nezu attempted to park.
Nezu turned around to address the two students, "Well, Midoriya-Kun, Iida-Kun, welcome to UA! I've got so much to talk to you about!"
(Both teenagers chose not to comment on the fact that the hero was not wearing a seat belt.)
