Work Text:

"Do you miss Canada?"

Langa glanced up from inspecting his skateboard to meet Reki's curious gaze, blinking once, then twice.

"Hmm? What do you mean?"

Reki spun one of the wheels on his own trusty skateboard before he asked again.

"Come on, you know what I mean. Do you miss Canada? That was where you lived before you and your mom moved to Okinawa, right?"

Langa nodded. "Right."

"So…do you miss it?" Reki asked again, his voice more sincere, his head tilted.

Langa paused for a moment, his hands locked on his skateboard.

The fresh spray of snow, the wind in his face, and the rush of racing through the trees.

Dad…

"Yeah, I do miss it." Langa replied, his eyes downcast.

Reki looked at Langa apologetically, a sinking feeling forming in his chest.

"Oh jeez, sorry, I didn't mean to-"

Langa shook his head. "No, no need to say sorry. It's alright, it's the truth."

Reki let out a sigh, both a relieved and reassuring one, and then moved himself to sit by Langa.

A small pause filled the air, almost deafening.

Reki let out another sigh. "Well, the way I see it, since you moved here, things have gotten more interesting, but..." Reki began, and then he tilted his head, catching Langa's gaze.

Langa blinked, and then he turned to face Reki. "But what?"

Reki smiled at him softly. "But I wouldn't have it any other way," He reached out and playfully touched Langa's cheek.

Langa let out a laugh, his lightless eyes brightening. "I was just going to say the same thing."
