Secrets, Gambles and Promises

Summary:

It's a gamble but hey, that's what Rinne is known for now isn't it?

Notes:

I changed my rinhime week from a multi-chapter to a collection due to them being not connected. Working on finishing day 3 right now and then to work on day 4....

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Rinne Amagi being bored is never a good thing, especially for those close to him who often fall victim to him.

“You will burn a hole in the floor pacing like this Amagi.” His fellow unit mate looked upon him like he was a teacher dealing with an irritating child.

“It ain’t my fault that this is taking so damn long!” Emphasising his point by dramatically throwing his head back and shoulders slumping. “How long have we been waitin’ anyways?” HiMERU simply rolled his eyes at Rinnes impatience.  “Ignorin’ me isn’t going to make me stop, you know this by now Merumeru~”

“HiMERU knows no matter what he does you will continue to be an annoyance.” A smirk formed on Rinne’s face as an idea planted itself in his mind.

“Y’know I could wait patiently but it’ll cost you Merumeru.” Once again HiMERU was rolling his eyes.

“HiMERU will be giving you no betting money Amagi.” Rinne’s grin widened as the conversation began to unfold exactly how he wanted.

“You wound me Merumeru! When did I say anything about money?” HiMERU set his gaze upon Rinne, eyebrow raised in question.

“What else would you ask for?” He had to plan his next course of action very carefully or else it might all fall apart before even starting.

“Now where would be the fun in it if I told ya right away?” HiMERU’s eyes narrowed at Rinne accusingly, who put up his arms in mock surrender. “It ain’t nothin’ bad Merumeru, I promise, nothin’ personal either.” HiMERU stayed apprehensive but It was a rare opportunity to get the Rinne Amagi to behave, a genuine rarity. HiMERU sighed.

“If you are able to behave until Oukawa and Shiina arrive and behave during the job HiMERU will consider it Amagi.” Rinne threw one of his fists up in victory.

“I’ll hold ya to that Merumeru!” He teased nudging HiMERU with his arm.

“HiMERU said he would consider it.”

“That’s good enough odds for me~” HiMERU perhaps already regretting even thinking about it.

Much to the rest of Crazy:B’s surprise Rinne stayed true to his half bet with HiMERU. Niki and Kohaku were certainly confused seeing Rinne so calm and quiet when they arrived, even more so when he remained that way during the job. HiMERU had forgotten that when needed Rinne could be quite responsible and appear sensible. It left him wondering what Rinne could possibly desire from him if not money or anything about ‘himself’.

Rinne on the other hand was dying. Staying so still was driving him insane, how is everyone else not bored out of their minds? He persevered through, he had a goal after all, he’s gotta keep his eye on the prize. It was a gamble but hey, that’s what Rinne is known for now isn’t it? Just thinking about his victory is what kept him in line.

And so Crazy:B’s work day ended without a fraction of trouble, an extreme oddity from the group, leaving even the members confused as they returned home. Kohaku glanced at both HiMERU and Rinne suspecting something must have happened for it to be so calm but didn’t want to disturb the peace by voicing his questions, Niki on the hand seemed near oblivious happy to be going home rambling about how hungry he was and how happy he was to be going home early. Though it was early for Crazy:B standards, they were returning at the scheduled time. Not having something get chaotic or have Rinne drag them or at least force Niki with him off somewhere else is what allows them to return home early. HiMERU had to admit he was impressed, he hadn’t expected Rinne to actually be so dedicated to play this game, he was still quietly walking beside HiMERU, not even moving to drape himself over HiMERU as he usually does. For all the complaining he does about it HiMERU found he was unnerved by Rinne acting like this. It made him even more unsure what Rinne could possibly want from him.

They reached their dorms Niki and Kohaku saying their farewells going their separate ways leaving behind Rinne and HiMERU. Before entering the dorms as well HiMERU stopped Rinne. “What do you want, Amagi? You proved your point by doing what HiMERU asked of you, behaving unnervingly well today.” Rinne simply grinned at him.

“Already givin’ in Merumeru?” HiMERU supposes he brought it on himself but seeing Rinne loosen up gave HiMERU a weird sense of relief. It was strange, ‘he’ wasn’t ‘himself’ so wasn’t it hypocritical of HiMERU to not want Rinne to hold himself back and act differently? HiMERU shook the thoughts from his head, now wasn’t the time to be thinking about such things, he would rather not ever think about such things, he was getting too attached to these people.

“HiMERU is not ‘giving in’, he is simply curious what you could want from HiMERU to make yourself behave so well.” Rinne moved slightly to hold out a hand to HiMERU. Looking down at his hand HiMERU could see Rinne was holding out his pinky. “Amagi, what?”

“A promise.” He said it as if it was the most understandable thing in the world. “That’s what I want.” HiMERU was left with more confusion.

“A promise of what exactly?” HiMERU stood on guard, not fully trusting the vague words Rinne was providing him.

“I want ya to promise that you’ll trust us.” HiMERU’s eyes widened. “It doesn’t have to be anytime soon but I want you to trust us, open up to us eventually. I want to get to know you one day.” HiMERU found himself speechless by RInne’s admission. Taking his silence and lack of movement as rejection Rinne switched gears, “If that’s too much for you, you could always let me take ya out sometime.” His words were spoken with mischief but HiMERU was much too wrapped up in his own mind to detect it.

“You have taken HiMERU out before, even if he didn’t particularly want to,” That caused Rinne to let out a bark of a laugh.

“I meant it a bit differently than that Merumeru.” HiMERU was all but exasperated by Rinne’s antics at this point. Another chuckle escaped RInne, “I know you’re smarter than that, I meant it as a date, you must’ve been on at least one of those before right, Merumeru~?” A small blush formed on HiMERU’s face before he could control it. Rinne was attacking him on all sorts of different fronts at the moment, not allowing HiMERU to regain his footing for even a moment.

“HiMERU doesn’t understand why you want either of those things.” RInne simply continued to smile at him. Heaving out a sigh, HiMERU gave up. He lifted up his own hand holding his pinky out to Rinne. “HiMERU can’t really promise anything,” avoiding eye contact HiMERU searched for the words he wanted to say. “But, HiMERU- no. ‘I’ suppose ‘i’ could try.” Rinne was all but bouncing with excitement as their pinkies interlocked sealing the deal.

“I’ll take what I can get, I’m sure I’ll be able to break down your walls eventually.” Rinne said, nudging HiMERU just as he had earlier that day.

After a surprisingly calm day of work and than a much less calm talk after getting back to the dorms, their bet had come to a close. HiMERU knows that because it is Rinne it could’ve been a lot worse, it was shockingly sweet in all honesty, perhaps HiMERU is too hard on Rinne sometimes. As they both walk into the building planning to return to their dorms Rinne ruins their peaceful moment by opening his mouth once more.

“Was that a no to the date?” HiMERU decided he was not too hard on Rinne.

Notes:

I feel like they may be ooc but I hope it is still enjoyable. I'm enjoying all the rinhimes and hope someone is able to find enjoyment in mine as well.
