Chapter Text
“ Woah , they did a number on you,” Sam whispers as she walks through the rows and rows and rows of Potatoes. Seriously, like, a lot . But, it makes sense; Amity doesn’t have any help from the entire fucking country and potatoes are easy to grow and easy to cook. Hell, her Grandma eats ‘em raw!
And of course, the GIW fucking ruins potatoes .
They claim that the crops are ‘Ecto-Contaminated’ which they totally are. But! They were completely safe for the liminal citizens of Amity; Nobody was in any danger eating them! Still, it’s not unreasonable to be worried.
Instead of talking to anyone, the idiots in white ‘De-Contaminated’ the crops.
Doesn’t sound too bad, right?
Well, what happens when you put materials that destroy ectoplasm into crops that are eaten by extremely liminal people?
What happens is thirty people in the Far Frozen seeking treatment for seriously fucked up digestive systems and a Half-Ghost in agony due to Obsession Failure.
See, the GIW is leaving Amity Park alone. While not counting surrounding farmland. As Part of the fucking town!
And now Sam has to clean up the mess the GIW made. (Though they say they did nothing. That the people harmed don’t fucking feel pain )
This… She’s not letting this happen again.
The question is how? She can’t ask farmers to fistfight the Government; They’re already doing so much for Amity. Maybe, post guards? But, most people are so busy with everything . Amity is going through a revolution and that tends to make shit a bit hectic. ( Understatement )
There’s also the fact they really don’t have the numbers . There’s just not enough folks with enough free time to stay on a farm constantly.
Of course, she does know a certain Ancient who can be everywhere at once; He sees her as his daughter (Does he still?) And he wants to preserve nature. Would this be under his umbrella?
…Worth a try, right?
_
“I’m not against this plan,” Though Vlad hardly sounds approving, “ But , I’d advise you to wait .”
Frankly, he looks like shit. Bruises under his eyes, hair scruffy looking and oily, like he hasn’t showered in days; He probably hasn’t. Not with Danny’s condition. Speaking of…
She glances at Danny, he’s sleeping on his bed. His expression twists in pain and he’s grasping at his chest. If Vlad looks like shit, Danny looks like he’s been to hell and back. Shaking, he whimpers and curls tighter into a ball.
Vlad reaches his hand out, checking Danny’s temperature.
“He’s gonna be okay, right?” She can’t keep the anxiety out of her voice.
Vlad sighs, “Yes. We’re more… Resilient than full Ghosts when it comes to Obsessions. He just needs some time to recover.”
“You’re sure?”
He dips a rag in ice water and sets it on Danny’s forehead, “I know it looks bad, but it’s not a catastrophic failure of his Obsession; His Core hasn’t cracked at all. He’ll be fine.”
“But he’s in pain?”
“Yes,” Great now Vlad looks pained, “He is.”
All the more reason she needs to work something out with Undergrowth; She needs Danny to be okay and eliminating the threat would make sure this doesn’t happen again.
“I can find my way to his lair just fine.”
“Maybe so, but it would still be extremely dangerous; You should wait until Danny’s more stable. Then I could go with you.”
So, so weird that Vlad’s actually being a responsible adult these days.
“ Or Dani could go with me!”
He shoots her a concerned glance.
“Dani with an ‘I’.” She clarifies.
“Absolutely not.”
“Why not?” Sam says, “She’s a Halfa, we’d be fine.”
“She’s also a Child , so are you.”
“So?” Sam, Danny, and Tucker have been dealing with this for years! Vlad himself was one of the things they had to deal with, not long ago. They’re better than any adult Hunters. Val’s really the only human Hunter who can compare. Vlad is the strongest Halfa, But! Dani’s a damn powerhouse. Strong enough to beat an Ancient? Maybe not. Certainly strong enough to deter an attack, though.
“You’re extremely competent, I know that,” He sounds genuine, at least, “You can handle it, but I’d prefer you didn’t have to-”
“I swear-”
“ I know! I know,” Sam stops, he sounds so… Tired, “You shouldn’t have to deal with him .”
You have before, is left unsaid.
Thing is, Sam’s used to working around her parents . She’ll work around Vlad just fine. She huffs as she stands up, muttering that yeah, yeah, she’ll wait. As soon as she’s outside though? She’s asking if Dani and Tuck want to help.
