Hunter had been rather relaxed for once, chatting about human birds as he dried the dishes.
And then he drops the plate.
As it shatters, Hunter freezes, turning to face her with his head bowed and his arms rigid by his sides. “I’m sorry,” he mumbles. “I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay, mijo,” she says, nudging him aside so she can safely sweep up the shards. “It was just a plate.”
“But… I broke it. What will be my punishment?”
“You don’t need one, Hunter. It was an accident. I promise you aren’t in trouble.”
But she knows he doesn’t believe her.
