Lucy Chen was parking when she saw Tim’s truck wasn’t there. She looked confused and headed in. She got changed and went to roll call.
“Hey, Angela, do you know why Tim isn’t here” Lucy asked.
“He had a dentist appointment and he said he’d be late” Angela said.
Lucy nods and gets assigned to the front desk. Later on in the day she gets a call from Tim’s sister.
“Hey Genny, what’s up. Is Tim ok. He hasn’t shown up to work” Lucy asked.
“Yeah, he’s fine just in the hospital” Genny said.
“What happened” she asked.
“Well, he was coming to work when plans changed. He got carjacked and the want to be robbers made him drive to the bank so they could rob the place. When things didn’t go as planned. The guy punched him on the side of the face he was already numb from the filling he had. They forgot Tim was a cop. Tim then proceeded to crash his truck causing him to be in the hospital” Genny said.
Lucy saw Angela and Aaron bring in the guy. She grabbed the keys to her shop.
“What are the injuries”. Lucy asked as she goes to her shop and heads towards the hospital.
“Just a bruised jaw, broken leg, and a dislocated wrist. Which in typical Bradford fashion he was awake for when they placed the bones back together. Also cuts and bruises from the impact” Genny said.
“He awakes now, or did the doctors finally give him the good stuff to make him sleep” Lucy said as she drives.
“Sleeping, they said he needs to rest. Plus, they have him lying on his side to ice his jaw which was swollen as hell” Genny said.
Lucy hangs up and finishes and texts Lopez and Aaron where she is. She gets to the hospital and parks far away. She sees Genny’s car and goes to the room. She stops at the gift shop to buy some balloons and a bear.
“Excuse me what room is Tim Bradford in” Lucy asked the receptionist.
“He’s in recovery room 43. Right down the hall left side” the lady said smiling.
Lucy gets a reply from Angela. She sets the stuff down and reads it.
Angela- Hey we’ll bring your clothes and stuff in a few. Aaron will bring your car and take your shop back. We told Grey and he is giving Tim front desk duty. We’re on our way.
Lucy- Thanks he is in room 43.
Aaron - 👍
Lucy puts her phone away and gets to the room. Genny smiled and took the stuff.
“Sorry for taking you off of shift.” Genny said.
“It is ok. I was on front desk duty, and it was boring. So, you took me out of my misery.” Lucy said.
“So, any update on the guy who caused the crash” Genny said as they stepped out so Tim can sleep.
“Yeah, Angela and Aaron arrested the guy. He is being charged with vehicular assault, robbery, and eluding police” Lucy said.
“Speaking of Angela and Aaron they are coming to drop off my car and clothes. I would like you to meet Aaron he is a nice guy” Lucy added.
Genny smiled and saw Angela and Aaron.
“Hey guys” Angela said.
“Hey, uh Aaron this is Gennifer, Genny this is Aaron” Lucy said.
The two smile and go down the hall to let Lucy and Angela have a moment.
“Chen go change, Aaron and I are taking are lunch and you know me when I get hungry” Angela said handing her the bag.
Lucy takes the bag and goes and changes. Angela goes into Tim’s room and sits down. Tim stirs and feels a puddle knowing the ice melted.
“Hey hotshot” Angela said.
“Hey” Tim managed to groan.
“What happened” she asked helping him turn around, so he be on his back.
“First went to a routine checkup at the dentist, turned into me needing a filling. So, they numbed me up. After that I was headed to work. When that plan drastically changed when a guy jumped in my truck. He held a gun to my head that’s when he told me to go to the bank. That’s when I texted. He clued in that I was a cop. Punched me in the jaw that I had had numbed up. He threw me out and put me in the passenger seat and took off. Now we are here. He crashed my truck into a tree. He ran and left me.” Tim said groggy.
Angela wrote that down and saw Lucy come back.
“Everything is in the bag. Duty belt and everything” Lucy said.
“Ok I need go wrangle up prince charming and get back to the station. You two behave now” Angela said.
“Ang how would I misbehave. I’m in two freaking casts” Tim said.
“Timothy David Bradford, knowing you. You would find a way to sneak out of this place.” Angela said.
Tim turns red knowing that’s what he would do. Lucy sits down as she leave. Tim sits up as best as he could and sees the doctor.
“Ok Tim we would like to keep you here for the rest of the afternoon. Then we will set you up with your discharge paperwork. Also, before you leave, we would like to set you up with are physical therapist so they can start on your rehab plan for your wrist and ankle. And I am putting Tim on light duty for the next 12 weeks. We are also prescribing a high dose painkiller for the jaw. Anymore more questions.” The doctor said.
Tim and Lucy shook their heads. The nurse comes in and checks Tim’s vitals and hands him another ice pack. Tim holds the ice pack and sees Grey and Nolan come in.
“You look like hell froze over” Grey said.
“Yeah, and I feel like it to mainly in my mouth.” Tim said softly.
“Ok Bradford, we brought you food. Soft foods, Jell-O, potatoes and gravy, broth, water. We need you to get better” Nolan said.
Tim takes the food and hears his stomach growl. Lucy giggles as Tim slurps his water. Grey just laughed before leaving. Tim pouts as he eats. Whatever he was eating it felt good his stomach. Later on, Tim was getting ready for his discharge and sees Angela and Aaron.
“Hey” Tim said as he balanced on his crutches.
“Ready to go” Aaron said.
Tim nods and sits down in the wheelchair.
“Oh, my lord, Tim Bradford getting pushed in a wheelchair. It is going to snow tomorrow” Angela said.
“Ang, I just don’t feel like doing anything. I just want to get home and lay in bed and do nothing but cuddle with Kojo” Tim said seeing Lucy.
“Yeah, and have me take care of you” Lucy said.
“You guys are enjoying this way too much” Tim said.
“Yes, now will you shut up and let Lucy take you home” Aaron said.
Tim gives a thumbs up and gets in Lucy’s car. Angela takes his crutches and puts them in the back of Lucy’s car and goes with Aaron in his car. Tim looks at Lucy and smiled.
“Chen you’re the best and I can’t wait for you to take care of me” Tim said as she drives.
“Bradford being nice that’s a first” Lucy said in shocked.
“Ha-ha now let me sleep” Tim said.
Lucy shuts up and lets Tim sleep. 20 minutes later, they arrive to Tim’s house.
“Hey sleepyhead we’re home” Lucy said.
Tim wakes up to see everyone’s car there. He misses his truck so much already. He sees one that looks unfamiliar and looks confused. He gets out and balances on his good foot and grabs his crutches.
“Welcome home Bradford” Wesley said.
“Thanks Wes. It is good to be home after today” Tim said hobbling to the couch.
“Someone missed you” Angela said pointing to Kojo.
Tim sees Kojo jump on the couch next to him and pets him.
“Sorry buddy I forgot about you” Tim said as Kojo wags his tail.
Kojo licks Tim all over his face. Tim giggles trying not to aggravate his jaw more. Angela, Lucy, and Grey sit next to Tim and Kojo. Tim looks confused as to what the heck is going on.
“Here we think you would need this” Angela said holding up keys.
“Wait that’s not” Tim said.
“Yes, Tim it is what you think” Grey said.
Tim looks at the keys and smiled. Lucy hugs Tim as Angela and Grey join.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better work family than you guys” Tim said smiling and on the brink of tears.
“Tim if anyone deserve it. It’s you. You’re always their for us, and now it’s time for us to be here for you” Lucy said.
“The truck is paid for. My mom helped us get it” Aaron said pipping into the conversation.
Tim got up and hopped on his good foot and hugged Aaron. Lucy smiled knowing her friend will be ok.
“Ok who’s hungry” John asked as everyone nods.
After a while and everyone leaves. Lucy sees Tim outsides with Kojo.
“What’s on your mind Bradford” Lucy said sitting next to him.
“Well, one how thankful I am to have a bunch of friends like you guys. Second of all just overwhelmed with the joy of a new truck. Third just thanks for staying with me for the first few days of my recovery. “Tim said holding her as Kojo comes and jumps on their lap.
“Tim I’d do anything for you” Lucy said as she pets Kojo.
“Anything like go on a date with me” Tim asked.
“A date, let me see I would love to Timothy David Bradford” Lucy said.
“When and where let me know” Tim said smirking.
Lucy kisses his cheek and smiles. Tim kisses her on the lips as Kojo wags his tail and whines in joy. Lucy and smiled and knew an injury can’t keep Tim down and away.
