Soft lips brush Sasuke's shoulder. The arm around him shifts as fingers begin to roam his chest, mapping out territory long since claimed. For a time, Sasuke enjoys the touches in silence, savoring the luxury of waking up so slowly. So safely. He could stay like this forever, but unlike years past, he looks forward to what the day will bring. He turns onto his back, his eyes fluttering open only to narrow at the hungry expression of the man looming above him.

“I thought you were letting me sleep in.”

“Technically, you’ve slept an extra forty minutes already,” Naruto points out, hand now brazenly sliding beneath the hem of Sasuke’s briefs to cup the soft flesh of his ass. “C’mon, I wanna give you your first present.”

“I wonder what that could be,” Sasuke deadpans. Naruto’s hand isn’t particularly subtle as its explorations continue, nor is the hardness now pressing against his thigh. “Did you at least brush your teeth?”

“Mhmm.” Naruto blows a minty breath over his face. “See? Now can I please kiss you?”

Sasuke gives a contemplative hum, suppressing a smile as Naruto vibrates with impatience. “Go on, then.”

Naruto doesn't hesitate. He kisses Sasuke with surprising softness, their lips lingering together like Naruto first wants to soak him in, the slow pull of his grin making Sasuke’s heart flood with a sudden wave of emotion. He never believed he'd have this. Sometimes he wonders if his happiness is as obvious to everyone as Naruto's, but then he realizes he doesn't care. Let them see. Let Naruto know his joy is too great to conceal. He deserves to know, to never wonder.

Naruto withdraws to look at him, still smiling. It's the same way he always looks at him—full of love and admiration and a hint of challenge, as if daring Sasuke to doubt his feelings. Above all else, Naruto is always ready to defend his love for Sasuke, even to Sasuke himself.

With their eyes locked, Sasuke takes Naruto’s sound hand and holds it to his chest, splaying it over his heart. Then he dips his chin, kissing each of Naruto’s fingertips. It says everything he needs to say without words, and Naruto’s eyes shine, his other hand lifting to cradle Sasuke's cheek.

“Happy birthday, baby.”

Just as they come together for another, much less innocent kiss, the door opens and four small bodies barrel inside, launching themselves onto Sasuke with a stream of birthday wishes so loud it surely constitutes a crime against humanity.

“Hey!” Naruto yells, face contorted with indignation. He unceremoniously shoves the children aside and latches onto Sasuke like a possessive crab. “Back off, he was mine first!”

“Yeah, yeah, we know, Dad.” Boruto throws himself over them both, followed by Kawaki, Himawari, and Sarada, forming a precarious tower of giggling bodies.

“Heavy,” Sasuke grunts beneath the weight of them all, but his smile is easy and fond.

It is, after all, a weight he's more than happy to bear.
