do no evil

Summary:

The effects Endeavor has on those around him when he decides that he is going to legalize gay marriage.

or I make everyone gay and do character studies/introspects on them

Notes:

This fic is basically set in the same/similar world as The Right To Be except im just chucking my own headcannons at it.
The Right To Be hurt me in all the right ways. It's a really good fic and it made me tear up so you should read it.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

I have a very childlike rage, and a very childlike loneliness

— Richey Edwards (via medusa-poet)

Kastuki Bakugou, unfortunately for him, was born in the wrong body. When he was young, just after developing his quirk, his parents had cut his hair short after the fire incident. According to his mother, the hair stylist had fucked up his cut, because he now looked like a boy instead of a girl. Truth be told, Katsuki was elated to have the hair gone. Having short hair was much better, in his opinion; It was easier to take care of, it didn't get in his face, and most importantly, people kept thinking he was a boy.

At the time, he didn't understand why he, as a girl, got so happy, so excited, at being mistaken for a boy. He never corrected anyone when they did, so all the kids in his new class thought he was a boy, the teacher even though he was a boy, until the first parent-teacher conference, that is. After he hadn't corrected anyone in his class the first few times, Izuku had asked him why. He, of course, answered: "Cause I don't care, I'm awesome, no matter what anyone thinks. I'm more awesomer than you, Deku, that's for sure."

At first, the adults thought it was funny, cute even. But as he got older, everything stopped being cute, and started being weird, or annoying. As 3rd grade rolled around, his bratty personality went from, "Aw we should treat her like a princess" to "You should fix her attitude, Mitsuki, the boys won't like her if she acts like that. " And his short hair went from, "Oh, I thought she was a boy, how silly of me," to, "Mitsuki, you should really have her start growing her hair out! Boys will never think she's cute then."

Mitsuki and Masaru were excited when they learned they were having a girl. Mitsuki couldn't wait to go shopping with her and Masaru only dreaded the tea parties a little. But, their Katsuki wanted nothing to do with girly things. He was only interested in heroes, which, all things considered, was pretty much normal in their day and age.

Mitsuki hadn't put up much of a fight when seven-year-old Katsuki had decided that he wanted to keep getting his hair cut. She had short hair, and sure she got shit for it, but she didn't have any fucks to give when she had a designer company to run. Mitsuki had, however, wanted him to get a more girly cut, but he was as hard-headed as she was, so she let it slide.

When he was 11, Katsuki came across the word 'Transgender.' He was on the computer his parents let him use (he was supposed to be in bed, but he never listened) and he stumbled onto an American primarily used website. He had never heard of the LGBTQ before and he barely understood half of the words, but he knew that he related to what the people on there were saying. He went through most of middle school in denial, and of course, as he did with everything else, he took it out on Deku.

When Katsuki Bakugou was 13, he finally came out to his parents. He figured that if they hated him, he could always turn to Auntie Inko. But, even with that, albeit weak, safety net, he was still terrified to come out. He had debated about it for a while, and Izuku wouldn't say it, but Katsuki was especially pissy during that time.

It happened in the car, of all places. He didn't know why, but every time he was in the car with one, or both, of his parents, he thought about coming out to them. This time, it was just his father who was in the car, with Kastuki in the passenger seat. He took in a breath, as if he were going to speak.

"Old man," Katsuki scowled, voice shaky. His father made a noise to let his son know he was listening, if he heard the shakiness in the boy's voice, that was for him to know. "I'm a boy," he said quickly, almost unintelligibly. "I..." He already said it in the mirror a million times, and this was no different, (It was.) "I'm trans. I- I'm... Do you know what that is?" Kastuki asked with a scrunched face.

When he saw no reaction from his father, he felt his throat bob in pain, and his eyes start to burn. Masaru, for his part, was mostly surprised by how softly his son spoke. He was so used to Katsuki's and his Wife's yelling that he was caught completely off guard, by how scared he sounded.

Masaru cleared his throat, fixing himself on his seat. "Uh...yes," he answered, treading carefully. "And, how did you come to this conclusion?" he asked, causing Katsuki to choke on a sob. "You- Are you mad?" the boy asked, looking down at his fists in his lap, scrunching the pants in a vice-like grip.

"N...No? Why-" Masaru took a deep breath, that was definitely a conversation they were going to need to have later, but for now, he said:

"I'm not mad. But, we should probably have a conversation about this yeah? When we get home, with your mother," The blonde jumped up at the mention of his mom.

"N..No! Not yet!" His regular loud, angry yell returned.

"She's not going to be mad either, Kit-" Masaru was going to say his name at the end of the sentence, but caught himself. When they got home, they did, in fact, have a conversation with his mom. Katsuki Bakugou shook with fear when he told his mother he was a boy. And, he'll deny it till the day he dies, but he cried when his parents had accepted him. It was a nightmare to find a doctor and a name that had fit him; Izuku noticed he was even more pissy.

Kastuki was especially upset when he found out that Deku applied to UA for a lot of reasons, but a little voice in his head had decided that he was scared that Deku was going to tell everyone about his secrete. If he rationalized, he knew that the green-haired boy would never do such a thing, but fear was never about rationalization anyway. Some would say that fear was the absence of rationalization.

When Katsuki saw Deku at UA, he was royally pissed. He knew that Deku knew, their parents were best friends, after all. As par for the course, he had threatened Deku about not telling anyone, among other things. (Like how the fuck did he get a quirk?) Deku, of course, never said anything and the subject was dropped.

Katsuki wasn't particularly planning on telling anyone, and the only reason his teachers knew, was because of his medical records. The real issue started when they moved into the dorms. Home was his safe area, where he could take off his binder. He relax knowing no one would see him. But now he was in the dorms. And after a few months, he developed a system with the help of Aizawa, who was, annoyingly, on top go him about not wearing his binder all the time. Which was only mildly insulting, because Katsuki wasn't an idiot, he knew better than to hurt himself. If he was stuck on bed rest, he couldn't train to be the best hero.

And even worse, he had a stupid fucking crush on shitty hair. Which would have been, relatively, fine if he knew he was gay. Because that opened up a whole new can of worms that—if you asked Izuku, he would deny it—made him extra pissy. (If you asked relatively anyone else in class 1-A, they would have started to complain about how angry he'd been getting.)

Aizawa seemed to notice as well, which lead to a very long, very annoying, very embarrassing, conversation with his homeroom teacher. When he finally came to terms with his sexuality, which had been very easy, compared to his gender, he had, unsurprisingly, done nothing about his stupid crush on shitty hair.

Things mellowed out after that, not including all the villain attacks and the fact that he said to get his provisional license. But, because of course theirs a but, Endeavor, Icyhot's father, had changed his costume out of the blue, and decided that he was going to advocate for queer people.

...

...What?

It was so...odd. It had thrown Katsuki so much that he couldn't even be pissed about it. He remembers seeing a few not-so-LGBTQ-friendly tweets from Endeavor, but Katsuki wasn't an idiot, he figured that was the PR team. And the only reason he knew Endeavor had no idea what Twitter was, was because he watched the hero ask one of his sidekicks how to put apps into a folder.

Katsuki was surprised he even knew what the LGBTQ was, let alone that he was advocating for them. Full offense, Icyhot, but his father seemed like a raging homophobe. (Which, yes he had said to Todoroki's face. Said boy, unsurprisingly hummed in agreement. Which caused Izuku to say something about not bad-mouthing heroes because one, he's a hero (which was a very unfair reason, according to Todoroki). Two, Kacchan shouldn't assume something like that about someone. Three, he definitely shouldn't voice said assumptions because that could technically be defamation of character, which, four, he could get sued for. And Deku wasn't going to shut his damn mouth if Katsuki didn't yell at him.)

When Katsuki had asked Endeavor about it, albeit, sarcastically, ("So what the fuck even are you now?" — "Self-proclaimed guardian of the gays or some shit?") it was because he genuinely wanted to know. The hero-in-training, like most people, assumed it was a political stunt. But when Endeavor (of all fucking people) had said, "Yes." — "That sounds correct." With a completely straight face, Katsuki knew that he was being serious. Katsuki knew that he, Endeavor, Enji Todoroki, current number one Hero, an absolute shit stain of a father, was being 100 percent genuinely honest.

This was earth-shattering, world-tilting, hell-freezing-over type shit.

Katsuki, of course, went to the pride parade. In fact, most, if not all, of his class went, along with half the class from 1-B and other students from the school. (The only ones he recognized were Aizawa Junior and the 'big three.') Katsuki, though he won't admit it, was happy to see Best Jeanist there, along with some of his sidekicks.

Hawks was also there, waving around his flag excitedly. Katsuki couldn't be too sure, but he thinks thats the first time he'd seen a genuine smile from the man. A few other pros were there too, like Gang Orca, Edge Shot, Present Mic, Midnight, and Ectoplasm. At the forefront of the parade, the loudest ones there, were Miriko and the Pussycats. The five of them were, basically, the only (out) LGBTQ Pro Heroes, so it was unsurprising.

It had only been a few weeks, maybe a month after the parade for gay marriage to become legal, and oh.

Oh.

Oh, how Katsuki cried.

It had actually dawned on him when he saw the picture of his teachers, two male pro heroes, actually get married. The entire class, of course, bombarded Aizawa and Yamada with questions. But, everyone had a smile on their face, and everyone's cheeks hurt. Katsuki was included in the bunch. Every time he thought about the headline of the news, or the picture he saw, or how his friends blew up his phone, he smiled. He couldn't stop smiling, and if anybody noticed, they never said anything.

Except for Kirishima, who had decided that a smiling Katsuki Bakugou was very cute. And if they held hands and called each other cute nicknames, that was nobodies business but their own.
