Chapter 1: I’ve Met Someone That Makes Me Feel Seasick

Chapter Text

‘Can't believe they let Kingpin outta jail’ Miles thought.

He sat atop a building down from where Kingpin and his many buyers held a party for his return. Miles knew he couldn’t do anything other than watch the party. He was just keeping a keen eye out for him.

Despite King pin-tricking the people of New York about his “clean slate”. Miles didn’t believe one bit of it.

Sure maybe he wouldn’t open the multiverse again. But Kingpin has been known for his dirty dealings in the past. After all, it was the perk of being a son of a cop.

Miles sat there for a good hour before he gave up. “Guess I’ll have to stalk the place again tomorrow, perhaps I’ll see something then,” Miles said to himself.

He jumps off the building and starts swinging back to his dorm room at Visions Academy. Or at least that was the plan.

His web-shooters ran out not even 10 blocks in. “Uh oh,” Miles Audible said.

He crashed directly into a trash can in a seemingly abandoned alleyway.

“Ughhhh How could I forget to check the web fluid.” He said as he lifted himself out of the bin.

“You ok?” He heard someone say.

His eyes widen as he looks up. There he saw someone in front of him.

They wore a Gas mask, and parachute pants covered in splatters of different colored paint. Their eyes were wide hazel. Chocolate smooth skin with freckles that glimmered gold. Their hair was in dreads one dread had beads that complemented the freckles.

“Uhhhh Yha just no need to worry.” He said, rubbing the back of his neck before hopping out of the trash bin.

“Wait are you Spider-Man," they said, walking around him and inspecting his suit.

“The one and only.” He said in a hero position. “Surprised you didn’t know I mean I don't mean to brag but I'm kinda all over the news.” He continued leaning on a wall.

“Oh sorry, just don't get out often or watch the news.” They said, shrugging their shoulders.

“Really. Where are you from.” Miles asked genuinely curious about this new stranger.

“Uhh Manhattan,” they said sheepishly.

“Well, what brings you to Brooklyn” He continued deciding to not press too much.

“Well don't tell but,” They said pointing to a mural near them.

Miles' eyes widened at the mural. It was incredible the bright colors complementing some of the cool colors.

“Wow, this is incredible,” Miles said inspecting the mural further.

He could tell what it was. The crazy Alien invasion 6 months ago.

He didn’t get to fight the threat at the core. He was stuck helping the area he was in to evacuate and fighting some of the stray monsters.

Luckily someone else took care of it. He has no clue who to thank though. The group is still a wonder to the public. It's just rumors of who they were. Kappa, other aliens, robots, etc.

No one has yet to figure it out yet all anyone knows is they were no mere humans. The photos online haven’t even helped since most were blurry or invisible to the lenses.

But no matter the case it was a scary time.

“Sorry if it brought back memories,” they said.

Miles stops his train of thought. “What. Oh no, it's perfect, just glad we finally passed that whole incident.”

“Heh, Yha me too,” they said, staring at their hands.

Miles quickly tries to change the subject. “So what brings you to Brooklyn?”

“Oh well, just better spots to hear.” They said hoping in the new conversation topic.

“Well, I look forward to seeing your work around here,” Miles said. “Oh and small tip, try the sewers less likely for the cops to scrub your work away. Though It's easy to get lost in '' he said giggling a bit remembering the many times he has.

“Trust me I am very familiar with the sewers.” They said snarkily.

“Well, it was a pleasure meeting you..?” Miles said, raising his hand for a handshake only to realize he has no clue of the other's name.

“Oh uhhhhh. M….J!” They said shouting the last portion. “M.J. That’s my name” the said, shaking Miles' hand.

“Well, I gotta run. Nice to meet you, Spider-man.” M.J. Said, grabbing their bag before running off.

Miles stood there stunned. ‘M.J? No, that's impossible, there can't be two M.J.’ He thought.

‘Then again there shouldn’t have been two Spider-Man’s. So perhaps this is just a coincidence or more Multiverse troubles?’

‘Perhaps I should keep a close eye on them for now. Make sure they don't glitch out or anything.’ Miles thought about replacing his web fluids.

His face flushed at a sudden realization of who M.J. was to every Spider-man. But he quickly dismissed it as a random coincidence.  ‘What am I thinking? Im not living in some kind of rom-com.’

‘M.J!’

Mikey’s thoughts were practically screaming at him.

‘Did I just combine my first initial with the first letter I saw.’ Mikey mentally face-palmed himself.

But what was he going to do he panicked. While Spider-man was checking out the mural he just finished, he noticed his alarm to get home went off.

He meant no disrespect to the Spider, just once his human disguise was about to wear off and his siblings would be awake soon.

He was practically dashing through the rooftops eventually meeting an alleyway that had just the manhole cover he was looking for.

He hops down, quickly opening it to the sewers, and practically dashed at an inhuman-like speed.

Eventually, he found the tunnel he was looking for. ‘Bingo’ he thought. He quickly slid down the tunnel descending further into the sewer system.

He finally reaches Manhattan Bridge by the time his disguise wears off in swirls of magic glowing around him.

Mikey grabs the cloaking pin and stuffs it in his bag. ‘Lasted longer than I thought, maybe I could have stayed longer.’ Mikey thought to himself. ‘Not that it matters I most likely won't run into the Spider boy any time soon ‘

He reaches into his bag again for a square purple device. He smirks as he presses the large silver button in the middle of the device. It quickly transforms into a jet pack.

He puts it on looking across the East River admiring the view. ‘Alright let's hope Donnies old jet pack still works.’ He thought as he got ready to turn on.

With a press of a button, he went speeding across the East River. Only about halfway through did his body ease up and he enjoyed being on the speeding jetpack.

He comes to a stop once he reaches the many buildings in Manhattan. He drops on one of the buildings in Chinatown.

‘I would thank Donnie for building a high-tech jetpack if I wasn't using it irresponsibly. It would have taken me hours to make it back’ he thought as he put away the jetpack in his bag again.

He hops down into an alleyway before spotting a sewer tunnel. He pulls out his phone looking at the time. “Only 11:30. Ha I could even stop to grab a slice of pizza. But let's not test that theory today” he said as he opens up the manhole cover.

He walks around the sewer tunnel for a while before running into the abandoned subway tunnel. “Home sweet home” he whispered out as he walked through the tunnel before running into the train carts.

In one of the train cars, he sees lights turn on. ‘Dang it Leo’s awake.’ Mikey mentally cursed at himself.

He slowly approaches peeping into one of the train carts and seeing Leo on his bed reading comics with his headsets on.

Mikey sighed as he cautiously approached his train cart. Despite Leo's headsets being on and most likely on full blast, he doesn't want to draw attention to himself.

He quietly opens the train cart door before entering then slowly shuts it. He sighed as he leaned against the door frame. He looks around the room before he discarded his clothes and gear in the corner of the room.

He stopped once and a while to check if anyone heard him. It took him a few minutes but after that, he was sure no one noticed him sneaking back in.

Taking a breath he checked the time it was already three am. ‘I guess I could get some shut-eye before I have to wake up’ she thought plopping onto his new mattress.

His old hammock was discarded as he kept falling off it too much. He tried to fight his sibling for him to keep it. But they all said that he needed to heal his arms after the invasion and his falling off the hammock was making it worse.

Well, it doesn't matter that the invasion happened months ago. They healed and he was finally relieved from his very uncomfortable cast. His family was semi-back to normal now. But they were all in desperate need to talk about their emotions. Under the strict guidelines of both his doctor personas.

Well, most of their feelings. Even after Mikey still had some pent-up emotions he didn’t want to talk about. Hence the murals.

Mikey decided to go to Brooklyn for his inspo as one,  his brothers don't go there often, and two he doesn't need his family recognizing his art and freaking out. Whether it was from flashbacks or worry for Mikey's health.

He’s been doing it for over a month now and has yet to be caught by his siblings. He hasn't run into anyone from the foot or mutants but he still uses the human disguise just in case someone spots him.

Like tonight. Mikey practically jumped when he heard the crash from behind him. He would have bolted until his hero morality took over and told him to check on the “civilian”.

Finding the spider was a surprise; he has only seen them in articles and some pictures but they were always blurry.

Mikey yawns as he cuddles himself into the sheets.

His brain starts thinking of his next mural that he would be sure of to sketch out in the morning. His meeting with the spider made an inspiration spark in him. For once he wasn't thinking about the invasion which was reliving for him to say the least.

Maybe the spider would even see it. Although he most likely won't be running into the spider any time soon.

It's been two days since Mikey’s encounter with the spider. He already started the new mural dedicated to the web-slinger.

That was until today.

“Is that for me?” he heard from someone behind him excitedly.

Mikey jumps away from them startled. His ninja reflex’s kicking in. He quickly tries to swing his right leg at the stranger. They parry it, protecting themselves.

“Whoa easy there,” they said, hands sticking out so Mikey would not be attacked again.

Mikey finally sees who exactly the person was seeing the black and red spider suit.

“Spidey,” he said, removing his gas mask covering his human face.

“The one and only” Spiderman said directing his thumbs up at himself.

Mikey takes a breath “Whew you scared me” Mikey said with a smile of relief.

“My bad didn’t think it would scare you that bad.” The Spider said, rubbing the back of his neck.

“It's ok. Just don't do that again or I’ll go full ninja on you.” Mikey said, moving his hands in a chopping motion causing them both to laugh.

“So I see you had some inspiration.” The spider said, pointing at the mural.

Mikey's face blushes a bit out of embarrassment. “Oh. Yha guess you could say I got a little inspired from our last interaction.” Mikey said fighting with his gas mask on his neck.

“Well I am flattered,” he said, putting his hands on his hips and admiring the almost-finished mural.

His eyes target a few of the spray cans on the floor against the wall. He smiles as he comes up with an idea. “Mind if I help,” the spider asked, grabbing one of the spray paints.

“You know I'm a bit of an artist myself,” Spidey added. You could tell he was practically smirking under the mask.

Mikey smirked, staring at him. “Then show me your rad skills. Artist” He said, tossing him a gas mask.

Spider-Man looks at it a bit confused. “Are you trying to get a peak under the mask?” They’d said snarkily leaning close to the smaller.

Mikey chuckled at it. “It's a safety precaution,” he said, grabbing the mask from the spider. Mikey goes on his tippy toes to tie the gas mask onto Spider-man. He puts it over the vigilante's original mask.

“I don't want to be responsible for killing Spider-man,” Mikey said as he went to put on his.

‘Ok, what the heck was that?’ Miles thought as he saw M.J. get back to work on their mural.

His stomach felt practically sick as if he were on a boat. He was blushing a bit hard under his spider mask from how close they had gotten to him.

‘No no no, don't fall for them yet Miles. We don't even know them.’ Miles said, trying to shake off the feeling.

They both started on the painting of him cracking jokes and complementing each other's art skills.

Miles attempts to ask questions hoping to see if this person was from another dimension.

“So, what part of Manhattan do you live in? I have some family there maybe I have seen you.” He said ‘Alright good starter’

‘Oh no you haven't, trust me, I live in a very secluded area in Chinatown.” M.J. said still focused on the mural. “Hey, do you mind touching up that area?” They said pointing at the corner of the artwork.

“Uh, sure.” He said focusing his artistic energy on that corner. “Well that's too bad, I could have hung out with you,” Miles said. “That is if you not sick,”  he said the last part a bit lower.

“What? Why would I be sick” the other said turning to look at the spider.

“Oh I meant sick of my presence” Miles blurts out earning a chuckle from M.J.

They both stood back admiring the now-finished mural.

“Wow you're good at graffitiing for someone who is supposed to stop crimes,”M.J. said nudging the masked hero.

Miles chuckled. “I’ve had my fair share in vandalism. Don't tell the Captain though.” He said taking off the gas mask and putting a finger where his mouth would be if it wasn't covered by the mask.

M.J. started chuckling. “Your secret is safe with me,” they said with their right hand against their heart and left in the air as if they were pledging their allegiance.

“I know you can't see it but I'm rolling my eyes under the mask,” Miles said giggling.

“Ouch” M.J. Said

Miles laughs at M.J.’s response. “You know you're really funny,” he says, still giggling.

“Why thank you.” He said smiling. “Just don’t tell my brother he would kill me if he found out I stole his mantle,” M.J. said with a small chuckle.

“You have siblings?” Miles asked.

“Oh, Yha three older brothers.” They said to put away some of the art supplies. “What about you, or can you don't have to say, with the whole secret identity thing?”

“Nah I'm an only child” Miles replied “There are millions of people who don’t have siblings. I highly doubt you’ll find me with that information alone.”

“You doubt my skills,” M.J. said, smirking grabbing their gear.

An alarm goes off on their phone proctoring Miles to question it. “What's that for,”  Miles asked pointing at M.J.’s phone.

“Oh, this just reminds me when I have to get home. Don't need my fam finding out I have been sneaking out to spray paint in Brooklyn,” they said turning off the alarm.

“Oh no I get it, I think my parent would kill me if they found out about my double life,” Miles said rubbing the back of his neck. “Hey, do you need me to swing you back home?”

“Oh no, I would hate to keep you up. Besides my place is hard to find and way too far.” They said backing up. “So I guess I’ll see you around Spidey.”

“Hey wait,” He said grabbing their wrist. “Oh sorry,” He said letting go. “It's just maybe we could, perhaps we could meet up again let's say tomorrow,” Miles said cursing himself out for how awkward he sounded.
“Uhh. Sure I don't mind. Well, meet here again on the roof this time though.” M.J. said with a smile. “Alright, I got to go now see you tomorrow.” They said before they left.

‘Really smooth Miles’ He thought. ‘It's okay we didn't get much information, But from the way they acted and haven't glitched they probably are from this universe.’

Miles quickly hops onto a rooftop using his webs. ‘But still best to make sure they won't glitch out of reality if they are.’ he thought as he started to head back to his dorm room a Visions Academy.
