I have her strapped to my chest and I'm just trying to get in and get out of there because crowded places aren't my favorite, you know? So this older lady stops me and starts gushing over Melanie and how cute she is, which is totally understandable, so I thank her while trying not to seem desperate to end the conversation and leave. Then she asks me about Melanie's father and I tell her she doesn't have one. She looks at me weird and I tell her I was artificially inseminated, not that it's any of this lady's business because it's not, but I just wanted her to leave me alone. She starts saying how brave I am to be a young woman raising a baby all on my own but it seems a little patronizing, you know? So I tell her I'm not raising the baby alone, that I'm raising her with my wife, and BOY does she give me the stinkeye! She starts excusing herself while looking at me like I'm a pervert and looking at Melanie like she's the spawn of Satan or something.

Oh. Well, we can definitely relate. Until a couple months ago it was like that for us, except we weren't even helping humans, just stealing from them for supplies. And when we did start helping them at first, they really didn't like us. It was tough. But...even though we initially set out to save our NY so that humans would like us and think we're heroes, in the end that wasn't why it was so important. We had to learn that doing the right thing isn't easy and that sometimes you'll get no thanks in return or even recognition. The fact that humans accept us now is all thanks to April and her reporting skills, really. If she hadn't faced her own fears people would still very much hate us. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

To answer your questions, lil Donnie: she is very funny in my personal opinion. I tried feeding her squash yesterday and the face she made had me in stitches. Let's just say I'm not buying pureed squash for her again 😅
She makes noises that I guess you could interpret as her trying to talk? Mostly she just baby babbles and grunts when she wants something. She recently started clapping, too!
And what is it like to be a mom? Well, for me personally it's the hardest but most fulfilling job I could ever hope to have. It's scary and funny and exhausting and so, so worth it. I know Karai feels the same way. It's amazing watching this tiny baby I brought home months ago slowly turn into a little person with her own personality. It's something I never thought I could do but I'm so glad I did.

No, not at all! I will admit that I am. . .not the best at self care, but I promise that I do not purposely skip meals. I tend to hyperfixate on my work to the point where everything else becomes background noise, even my own bodily needs. It rarely gets to the extreme that Leo just described, I assure you. My family has been helping me take better care of myself, which I don't always appreciate the way I should. Casey brings over more Swedish Fish every other day as well, which helps, even if they're not the most nutritious.

So Leo and I did some research together and were looking through names to fit the renaissance theme we've got going on that were still feminine, and it turns out there was a female renaissance artist named Lavinia Fontana who supported her entire family with her paintings including 11 (!!) children and she was possibly the first woman to paint nude women, but that's debatable. Anyways the point is that I really, really like the name Lavinia and I like that it's On Brand for us and I just think it's pretty! So from now on I'd like to be called Lavinia, please. I haven't figured out any nicknames yet but me and Leo are looking into that too. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

i feel unsure about posting this, bc i know this is a divisive topic. but after watching a video about how 2012 tmnt's romances failed that detailed every problem with the capriltello love triangle, i realized just how much donnie and casey canonically harassed april. i had forgotten that donnie literally stalked her and casey pressed her against a locker. the scene with the jumpsuit makes me super uncomfortable. i think it's unfair that april never rlly gets to stand up for herself or shut that shit down permanently. it's not okay that the writers and animators sexualized a teenage girl and encouraged their young audience to do the same. i just want to note before anyone gets defensive: this is NOT donnie or casey bashing. i love them both and i love writing them both. i think the way they were written in canon leaves a lot to be desired, but that's true for almost every character. tmnt 2012 is definitely flawed. i felt like addressing one of those flaws.

That's what the world teaches us and it's what it taught me growing up. It's why I didn't say anything for so long. I didn't want to be the bitch who broke Donnie and Casey's hearts. You're both my dear friends and I didn't want to hurt you. But by staying silent for so long, I hurt myself. And I regret that with every fiber of my being. I wish I had been honest from jump street. That's the thing, our school says it has a zero tolerance policy, but it does nothing to enforce it. If it did April wouldn't have had people writing "puke girl" all over her locker or even calling her that in the first place. If I went to the principal I'm sure she'd just tell me that "boys will be boys" or "they're entitled to their opinion" or some bs. The school counselor might be more understanding but idk how much she can actually do. It just....sucks.

Schools tend to fear potential repercussion from angry parents more than they do a child getting hurt, unfortunately.
