Work Text:

He’d been locked in for… a week.

A week. And the blood hadn’t stopped dripping.

It’d slowed, but… every so often, Heart heard it drip from his face. He felt it trail down from his hollow eyes, down his cheeks… his senses were in overdrive, trying to adjust to his newfound blindness. He was so overstimulated, all the time… and he had to handle this alone.

God… he wish he’d dropped the gun when Mind demanded. For once, he wished he’d listened to The Sun’s words. But he didn’t. He was blinded- he was deafened by rage.

Now he was just locked in his room.

Heart heard a knock at the door. “(...Come in.)” he mumbled quietly. But the door didn’t open. He heard a quiet huff from outside. “[Speak up.]” Mind demanded. With a heavy sigh, Heart rose his voice. He didn’t have the energy to argue back.

“(Come in, Mind.)”

Mind opened the door, and even with his lack of eyes, he could tell he was smug as always. “[How is isolation faring you?]” he asked, with a small head tilt. Heart turned away, hands fidgeting and folding in his lap. He didn’t respond, hoping the blood on his face would speak for itself. Mind came over, sitting besides Heart. The Moon flinched, but… he couldn’t deny it was nice to have someone here with him, even though it was the smug automaton he so, so dearly hated.

“[...Heart.]” Mind said, in a more firm tone. “[Don’t tell Atlas I’m saying this, but… what he did was needlessly cruel.]”. Heart flinched at this. What? What happened to Mind? He’d never say this. Heart growled. “(You don’t know anything about “needlessly” cruel.)”

“[I’m sorry?]” Mind snarled back, standing up off the bed in a defensive position. “[Even when I’m trying to defend you, you still bite back? You really are-]” he was interuppted by Heart, mustering the loudest voice he could. “(You can’t just agree with Soul on this , and then just turn around and- and say- and say it was “needlessly cruel”!)” Tears mixed with blood as Juno shouted.

Heart shakily got up on his feet, turning to Mind, or at least where he thought Mind was. His fists clenched as he continued, not letting Mind get a single word in. “(You- you emotionless bastard! You just change your opinions to whatever’s easiest to manipulate and abuse me with! I’m sick of it!)” Juno choked on his tears, and a hand came up to wipe the blood and tears from his face. Mind took this opportunity to speak. “[What a hypocrite you are, Resident Heart. Saying I’m the manipulative one?]”

“(THIS IS THE WAY THAT I AM! I’m the emotional side! The love, the hate- you have to be able to comprehend that, at least!)” Mind was unphased by Heart’s outburst. “(You really think I’m faking this? You really think I chose this? No! Never, in a million years!)” Heart finally stopped yelling, taking a second to catch his breath.

He felt Mind’s cold body advancing towards him, his steps measured, and he started to panic. Mind’s fingertips touched The Moon’s chin, tilting his head up. “[You’re a complete and utter mess, Resident Heart.]” He hissed. Heart let out a strained whimper, his empty sockets staring up into Mind’s cold, blue eyes.

“(Go fuck yoursel-!)”

Heart’s retort was completely silenced by Mind pulling him forward, kissing him roughly and suddenly. Juno’s brain revved into overdrive as Mind held him still. He panted lightly against Mind’s lips, his hands making their way up to his sides. After what felt like hours, Mind pulled away, seeing the bright purple blush covering The Moon’s face. “[I suppose that will keep you quiet for a while.]”

“(Wait- Mr. Mind-!)”

But Mind had already left the room. Locking the door, as always. Heart sat back down, his flushed face in his hands. Mind kissed him. Mind. The logician he hated with every last fiber of his being. And he- he enjoyed it? At least he thinks he did…

Heart laid back down on his bed, and fell asleep with the heat still in his face.
