Chapter Text
It was their morning routine now,
The two would wake up early, brush their hair, take showers, get dressed, and then Enid would sit by on her bed, going through her notifications.
Wednesday would sit on the floor, legs folded, one wing stretched and fingers combing through it. She parted inky black feathers, ridding herself of loose or damaged ones, fixing kinks and knots and delivering oils from the base to the tip.
Wednesday Addams kept her wings neat and pristine, just like her braids.
Since the day she arrived at Nevermore, the inevitable "Can I touch your wings?" Followed her no matter where she went. Enid was guilty of this too, asking the question the moment she got the chance. It was the first and only time the goth had looked personally offended while delivering her threat, so she never asked again. Others were lucky to get away with a threat, sometimes people would try and touch without asking and leave with their arms dislocated.
She gave her wings a shake and loose feathers scattered around the room, but Enid didn't dare pick them up. She knew Wednesday hated that, having seen her gift a black eye to student who picked up and played with one that fell during class. She always gathered her own feathers at the end of every morning session.
Done with her wings, she gave them one last stretch and a flap, sending a light breeze towards Enid, a signal the wolf had learned meant she was finished.
She hopped off her bed and started packing her things while Wednesday picked up a broom, gathering her feathers together before gently storing them in a velvet bag, which was always empty my the end of the week. Enid didn't know what she used her fallen feathers for, but considering most of what she dabbles in during her spare time, she wasn't sure she wanted to know. Besides, they're probably safer with her instead of potentially reaching the hands of her stalker who has used the dark arts against them on more than one occasion.
Wednesday put away the broom, picked up her things and started heading towards the door.
"Hey!"
She turned around, her hand still on the knob.
"You missed one"
Enid gently picked up a long, black feather from her multicolored sheets. Must have been blown there by accident. Treating it like something precious and fragile, she placed it on her palm and stretched it out to her.
"So I have." Wednesday remarked, nonchalant, before continuing out the door.
"Wait!" Enid grabbed her books and trotted after her, catching up in the hallway. "Aren't you gonna put it in the bag?"
"The bag is full." She lied, not looking up from the book she had already opened in front of her. "You can keep it if you want." She glanced at her for the tiniest second, eyes sparkling with something that looked like hope before her gaze fell back onto the book. "Or toss it in the bin if you do not."
Suddenly, the goth's book was knocked aside as a heap of blonde and pink wrapped around her, squeezing the two of them together.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Realizing what she's doing, she quickly released her and stepped aside. "Sorry! No hugs, I remember." The wolf leaned down and picked up the book, dusting it off and handing it back to a flustered Wednesday. The smile never left her face as she fidgeted at her side, struggling to contain her excitement.
Enid held up the feather to the sunlight filtering in, All the colors of the rainbow reflected from the smooth, glossy black. The widest smile stayed plastered onto her face and she hopped on her toes in excitement, there was no one else in the school Wednesday had entrusted with a feather. She had befriended the unfriendable!
Wednesday looked into her blue eyes, half baffled about why this excited her so much, and half relieved that she decided to keep the feather. Meanwhile she was also trying to ignore the feeling of moths in her belly.
"I-"
"Oh theres Yoko! I'm gonna go tell Yoko!"
And with that, Enid sped off. Wednesday decided to rush to class, willing her cheeks back to her corpse pale color and ignoring the faint echo of "Look what Wednesday gave me!" From behind her.
A few days later, Wednesday walked to the library to collect Enid. The wolf was passed out on a table from trying to cram half the syllabus a week before the exams.
Right before she could wake her, she spotted something peculiar. There, right besides Enid's small puddle of drool, lay her feather. It was a bookmark now, nicely preserved and encased in resin with some black glitter and dandelions.
