Two months after spring break, Garath, Jeff, and Frank were waiting for Eddie at a local park. Garath's parents still think Eddie’s a murderer and therefore will not let them have band practice in their garage anymore. So the group was meeting up to see if there was a new place they could practice.
They were waiting for Eddie to arrive to start talking about it but Eddie was about half an hour late. The group was worried he had gotten jumped or something on the way there.
They were startled out of their musings, however, by the arrival of a well-known burgundy BMW. The group was scared. Was Harrington with Carver or his goons? Were they about to get jumped?
The group's feelings shifted from fear to shock. They would have had to employ spatulas to remove their jaws from the ground as Eddie got out of the passenger door. Saying goodbye to the driver as he exited.
They assumed this driver would be Harrington but they couldn't be sure because apparently up is down, left is right, the sky is magenta, and Eddie rides in Steve Harrginton’s car. The fuck? They all shot questions at Eddie as he walked over to them, but Eddie ignored them in favor of dramatically sighing and flopping down on the table. He declared loudly,
“Boys, I’m in love.”
“With Harrington?” Jeff asked.
“Hmmm…yeah,” Eddie said.
“And does he know that? Cause I can't imagine he does. Considering you seem mostly intact and the fact that you are like friends now?” asked Gareth.
“Well for the record he does know, or I should hope he does considering I had my tongue down his throat 20 minutes ago,” Eddie said.
“No way,” Frank said at the same time as
Jeff exclaimed
“Not a chance.”
“Not a chance, really?” Eddie said.
“Sorry dude, we didn't mean it like that, just that's King Steve dude. No one thinks he swings that way.” Jeff soothed.
“Yeah, we’re worried he’s using you as, like, a hole to fuck” Garath said with very little tact.
“I mean how do you know he's not using you if he doesn't tell anyone about you?”
Frank asked with marginally more tact.
Eddie’s face went red in anger.
“Yeah, well he's not. You'll see him at band practice at his house next Monday.” Eddie declared and walked back to Harrington’s car.
They then drove off, leaving three shocked freaks on the picnic table.
“Well I guess practice is at Harrington’s next Monday” Jeff quipped.
—----------------------
Garath, Jeff, and Frank starred in awed terror at Harrington's house. They were about to tread where no freak had ever dared tread before.
Eddie's van was already parked next to Harrington’s beemer, but when they knocked there was no response. However the door was unlocked and Garath hesitantly poked his head in while knocking on the door, with the other two pressed to his back.
He looked in and his eyes went wide, causing him to stumble forward leading to a chain reaction of all of them falling in a heap on the floor, startling Eddie and Harrington away from their passionate make-out session.
Eddie had Harrington pressed up against a wall. At the ruckus, his friend's arrival caused him to unlock his lips from Harrington's very obviously removing his tongue as well, and dropped his head on Harrington’s shoulder.
“My friends” he muttered miserably as they righted themselves.
“They cool?” Harrington whispered to Eddie.
“Yeah, they just have no concept of boundaries, and that if you knock and no one answers that does not mean come right on in” Eddie raised his voice at the end clearly intending for them to hear it.
Harrington smiled, relieved, and gave them a little dorky wave.
“You don't mind people knowing about you and Eddie?” Jeff asked, confused. He thought he knew Harrington but he guessed he was wrong.
“I mean not if they’re not gonna have a problem about it, I mean we can’t go shouting it from the rooftops for obvious reasons but-” Steve was cut off.
“Reasons like you don't like being seen with the town freak” Garath accused.
“No, we're gay, Garath. I don't know about you but I'd like not to be killed by a crazed homophobe ranting about how I’m ruining their town, ya know?” Steve shut the conversation down.
Garath’s deflated righteous anger leaving him,
“That’s fair” he resigned.
“Anyway, you’re not here to talk to Stevie, you're here to practice” Eddie jumped up and declared “Not that you're not lovely to speak to Stevie-”
“It's just that you already have plans right now, I know,” Steve interrupted. Fondly, he gave Eddie a peck on the lips and lightly shoved him towards a door, before walking outside.
“Your stuff’s in Eddie’s van, right?” Steve asked, three stunned freaks nodded, Steve smiled and gave them that dorky little wave again and walked out of the door.
“Alright guys, Steve’s letting us use the basement, so let's go” Eddie gestured and opened the door.
The basement made sense to them. Of course, Harrington was gonna put them in the basement. It made sense that the king, even a former one, would want the freaks in the main part of his house.
That line of thinking dies out however when they see the basement. It was fully finished and had soundproofing around the walls, there were bean bag chairs, a snack bar, a kitchenette in the corner, a long table in the corner with sets of dice and maps all over it, and an open door in the corner that led to a bathroom.
“Wow” breathed Jeff, It was a freak's wonderland, in the house of the former king.
“Hope you like it,” Steve said, making everybody except Eddie jump in surprise.
Steve was carrying Garaths drums, he set them down and put them back together, in the right order which surprised the drummer.
“I wanted to put you guys up in the main house but I get migraines, and Eddie said you guys would like it down here,” Steve explained with a shrug.
“He was right,” Jeff exclaimed breathlessly.
“I'm glad you like it,” Steve said “but I'm not getting all this shit by myself so” Steve pointed out. The boys wasted no time obeying his command, which startled a laugh out of Steve.
“Told you they'd like you,” Eddie said with a laugh. Kissing Steve quickly and in any place he was allowed, which was everywhere.
“I love you,” Eddie said.
“I love you too” Steve replied easily.
Outside the basement, three friends stood listening in and smiled. They had never been so happy to be wrong before.
