The move into the K/DA mansion had taken a few weeks to get under wraps- but eventually the time had come for Kai’sa to finally settle in with her band mates at her new residence.
The past few weeks had been a whirlwind of events. After signing the official contract, Kai’sa had been brought into K/DA as their fourth and final member. At her own request- the girls had all kept the news quiet. Kai’sa wanted some time to spend wrapping up her life back home while having some time to explain things to her father. She wanted to let the man know that even though things were changing, it would be for the better. She also needed permission to sell the house- which she had been given. If she was going to be staying with the girls for the foreseeable future it would have been hard for Kai’sa to maintain her old home.
The talk with her dad had gone better then she had expected. If anything, Kassadin had been incredibly grateful for the opportunity his daughter had been given.
“You get to dance again?” He had asked. “For you?” To which Kai’sa had teared up while responding. “For us dad.”
From there, with her father’s blessing and Evelyn’s assistance; Kai’sa sold her childhood home. It had been a painful process- as it was a place that although held many traumatic memories- had also held many good ones as well. Cleaning out her mother and father’s bedroom had been the toughest though. The girls had offered to hire people to help the dancer pack; but Kai’sa had refused. There were a lot of things that finally needed to be gone though and that was something Kai’sa wanted to do herself.
Going through her parents' things had been challenging both physically and mentally. Physically because there were a lot of things. After her mother passed- Kassadin had struggled to let anything go- especially if it had even the slightest connection to her mother. Because of that, things had piled up and their basement had become a trove of bins filled with pictures, broken furniture and old clothing. Anything that had belonged to her mom had been kept- no matter its condition. Too young, but also too heartbroken herself; Kai’sa had never protested- but now she was an adult. She was moving to a new home. A fresh start. An opportunity to make new memories. It was time she finally sat down and went through everything.
Quite a few things were donated while others were taken to the mansion for storage. Ahri had insisted that anything Kai’sa needed and wanted to keep would be given whatever space necessary. Boxes were sorted into different piles in the empty living room; all labeled and colour coded with tape so that when the movers did come to take things to the new house- they would all wind up in their proper locations. Kai’sa didn’t want to disrupt the girls' lives more than she already had. Ahri, Evelyn and Akali were already doing so much for her- the least she could offer in return was organization and as smooth of a transition process.
With the house being sold and Kai’sa moving; her father’s living arrangements had been something to consider as well.
After a few meetings with Soraka and Ahri- Kai’sa was able to get her father into a long term care facility. It would be more homey then the hospital had offered- but the on site medical treatment that could be provided would benefit Kassadin as well. The knowledge that her father would be taken care of and have the best care in their area had meant a lot to Kai’sa. It was Ahri who had insisted that her father receive the best medical care they could offer. The blonde had been adamant that Kai’sa know her father was being taken care of in a space the dancer could visit anytime she wanted.
At her request- a local lawn care company had also been hired for her elderly neighbor, Mr. Zilean. Akali had met the man one day when accompanying Kai’sa to her house to grab a few pre-packed boxes. The man had been outside on his porch, sipping a cup of coffee when the girls pulled up in one of Eve’s cars.
“Ah! Kai’sa darling.” He called with a wave. Smiling gently, Kai’sa motioned for Akali to come over with her. The younger girl had followed quietly, looking at the elderly man curiously as he and Kai’sa spoke to one another.
“I saw the for sale sign go up for the house.” He said with a gesture to the front lawn where the large, red arrow shaped sign with block letters reading ‘FOR SALE’ rested.
Kai’sa nodded, looking at the man with a sad smile. “Yah. I’m moving and I don’t think I’ll have time to upkeep the property anymore.” The dancer responded gently, an ache in her tone.
Zilean nodded, a frown on his face. “Did something happen with…?” His voice trails.
Snapping her head up, Kai’sa shakes her head quickly. “No, dad is okay for now.” She offers with the most reassuring smile she can muster. “He’s still sick, but he will be moving to a long term care facility in the city where he will have on-site help 24/7.” She explains to which the elderly man nods, his haze gaze flickering between Kai’sa and Akali. A small smile pulls at the corner of his lips. “And is this the person you're moving in with?” He teases. “A girlfriend perhaps?”
At this, Kai’sa laughs softly. She glances to her side to where Akali is standing quietly, her face flushed in embarrassment. Zilean knew about her sexuality even before Kai’sa had managed to come out to her father back in high school. It had actually been the man and his husband that Kai’sa had come out to first when seeking advice on how to have the conversation with her dad. Since then, Zilean had always been Kai’sa number one supporter when it came to her romantic life. The dancer honestly found it amusing how much the man teased her about the girls she would have over. She then turns back to Zilean, her eyes bright with amusement. “Zilean, this is Akali. She’s my new co-worker.” The dancer explains with a nod.
At her side, Akali smiles awkwardly, extending a hand out to the man. “Pleasure to meet you.” She hums.
The man accepts the handshake, his eyes twinkling. “Well, it’s lovely to meet you too, Ms. Akali. Take care of this ere’ Kai’sa eh? She’s a good lass. Don’t know where I’d be without her help over the years.”
Akali looks between Kai’sa and Zilean curiously.
Sensing the smaller girl’s confusion, Zilean chuckles. “Kai’sa here has been helping me fix up the house and take care of the lawn and such since she was a pre-teen.” The man explains with a grateful smile. “After my husband passed and my eye-sight started to go, it became hard for me to keep up on things. Kai’sa here always stepped up and offered to help. Never let me pay her in return though.” The man hums, his nearly blind gaze turning to look at Kai’sa with fake annoyance.
Kai’sa smiles sheepishly. The dancer then feels a warm and secure hand settle around her waist. Looking down to her side, she looks at Akali who is smiling up at her with beaming affection. “I promise.” The rogue says, her eyes turning to look back at the elderly man once more. “Myself and the other girls will make sure she’s well taken care of.” The rogue hums happily. “Seems like it’s about time she had others taking care of her and not the other way around.”
At this- Zilean laughs. He nods, his coffee shaking slightly in his hand. “I couldn’t agree more.” He responds, his eyes then flickering back to look at Kai’sa. “Can you pass along the address for your father’s new home and number when you eventually get it dear? Looks like I’ll have to go to him to have that drink rather than the other way around.”
A warm bubble of laughter rises in Kai’sa’s throat as she nods. “I’ll be sure to drop by and give you that information once everything is settled.”
Zilean nods. Slowly, the man moves over to place his coffee on the small end table beside the porch swing he had been sitting on. He then turns back to Kai’sa, his arms opening for a hug.
Without hesitation- Kai’sa accepts, embracing the elderly man in a tight hug. Over the years Zilean had come to mean a lot to the dancer. With her father in the hospital and the man being widowed- there had been multiple occasions where the two had shared dinners and celebrations in one another company. The two had become family over the years and the thought of leaving the man pained her.
When they part, Kai’sa looks around for a moment. “Say, where’s Angus?” The dancer questions. In response, Zilean chuckles before whistling. After a moment, trotting out from the side out the house is en elderly, overweight looking dog. He looks to be a mix of a lab and something else that Kai’sa has never been able to put her thumb on. The creature’s tan coat has grayed to the point where his entire face is covered.
Crouching down, Kai’sa extends a hand to pet the dog. The creature hobbles forward happily as he presses his weight into Kai’sa completely; causing the dancer to waver slightly. “Hello Angus.” The woman coos gently as she strokes the top of the creature's head gently. Panting happily, Angus nuzzles against the girl's hand, slobber dripping from the side of his mouth. After a moment, Kai’sa leans in to place a gentle kiss on the creature's head before standing. “Take care of Zil here boy.” She hums happily to the dog who lets out a small bark in response.
The trio laugh gently before saying their goodbyes. Kai’sa and Akali then make their way back towards Kai’sa home to collect what they had come for.
“We’ll make sure he’s taken care of.” Akali hums gently to the taller woman as they load the final box into the car’s trunk.
Glancing to her side, Kai’sa looks to the rogue before turning to look at where Zilean sits on his porch, his gaze directed towards the dark orange sky. A genuine, gentle smile pulls at the dancer's lips as she turns back to look at the smaller girl happily. “Thank you Kali’.” She hums gently as she leans down to place a gentle kiss atop the other’s lips.
Akali grins in response as she returns the kiss with a chuckle. “Anything for my ‘not yet girlfriend.’” The rogue teases as she gently pushes Kai’sa into the side of the car, her lips capturing the taller girls’ once more.
Kai’sa chuckles in response against Akali’s lips. What a flirt.
All in all, it had taken a bit of time, but eventually Kai’sa was able to get everything situated. Moving into the mansion had been stranger than Kai’sa ever could have thought. Growing up in the small, two bedroom she was accustomed to had been a dramatic change from where she was now. When questioned about where the group managed to afford such luxury, Evelyn and Ahri had chuckled softly. That was when the discussion about their true natures had come out- Ahri’s being a Gumiho and Evelyn’s being a succubus. Both had roamed the earth for years and lived many different lives. The conversation had also made way for Akali to talk a little more about her Oni bloodlines and Kai’sa was able to explain that she herself wasn’t entirely human either- but as to what she was, well, she didn’t really know.
None of the girls had seemed too worried about it though. Seeing as none of them were fully human- it made sense as to why they stuck around one and other. None of them really knew what it was like to ‘fit in’, but if anything, that is what made all of them unique in their own ways.
The room Kai’sa had been given was one of the previous guest rooms that was located closest to the newly renovated home gym and expanded dance studio. To Ahri- it made the most sense to have Kai’sa located the closest to such an area of the house. That way she was free to work and dance whenever she wanted too.
Having her own studio to dance and choreograph in had meant the world to Kai’sa. Finally she had a space to express herself and her creativity openly.
It had taken the dancer sometime to make her room feel her own as well- but slowly with time; her belongings were put onto shelves and her clothing filled the closet. The more she added- the more the space felt like Kai’sa.
All of the girls enjoyed spending time in the dancers room. When she first moved in; Kai’sa had found out that most of the time the girls slept in Ahri’s room, or sometimes Eve's. Rarely did they sleep in Akali’s room as the rogue had never been the best at maintaining the cleanest living quarters.
Kai’sa’s room had slowly become a frequent napping spot for all of the girls though. Being located a little bit further away from the main sections of the house offered Kai’sa’s room a sort of quiet. The dancer was also extremely tidy and made it a personal goal of her own to maintain her space as well as she could.
Living with the girls had been an adjustment. After years of practically living alone; the consistent company of three others had been a large adjustment. Kai’sa had struggled on occasion with the feeling of being overwhelmed and each of the girls had been extremely thoughtful. Kai’sa was offered space whenever she needed it and company when she preferred.
Over the few weeks, Akali had very much developed into Kai’sa best friend. The shorter girl was the easiest to joke and fool around with. Both of them had active lifestyles and enjoyed a balance of indoor and outdoor recreation. Akali had introduced Kai’sa to a video game called Overwatch that they enjoy playing on Akali’s tv. Kai’sa wasn’t very good at it- but she enjoyed playing alongside Akali. She enjoyed the character Ashe- she found her funny. While Akali switched between characters for every game. The rogue had informed her though that she enjoyed the character ‘Junkrat’. Akali found him to be an odd choice of character- but Akali always seemed to have the most fun playing him and that’s all that mattered to her.
The pair also spent a fair amount of time working out together. Right before Kai’sa moved in the gym renovations had been completed. There was still the odd occasion Kai’sa went to her old gym- but it was more out of nostalgia and to see the few people she had grown to enjoy the company of over the years. Her workouts with Akali continued to include the odd sparring match; but it wasn’t unusual for those matches to end with make-outs.
Eve had very much acted like a sort of protective figure for the dancer. The siren was constantly overlooking Kai’sa and making sure she was comfortable, but also safe. K/DA had picked up a few more gigs involving talk-shows and such over the last bit in order to hype up the excitement for their debut. They had been teasing a fourth member for months now and with conversation picking up; many news outlets managed to connect the dots that the group had found its fourth member. Because of this- many places had become rather pushy and involved in trying to figure out the mystery.
This situation made having Kai’sa attend outings with them- even for tasks as simple as shopping difficult. When Kai’sa did go out with one or more of the other girls it was typically Evelyn who tagged along with her. The siren was protective and never shied away from telling people around them to back off. Kai’sa appreciated the woman’s help and often found herself glued to the silver haired woman’s side. Evelyn made her feel safe and loved.
Kai’sa’s favourite moments with Eve were the nights she would accompany the woman out for drives. Evelyn was at times a scary driver- but not because she was bad; but because she liked to drive fast. At night though, the siren would cruise down backroads (still faster than the speed limit) with the windows down and the summer air around them. Sometimes they would park and lay on the top of the car while watching the stars and sharing small kisses with one another. Kai’sa loved these moments between her and Eve.
Ahri was special. The blonde had worked her way into filling so many of the gaps relationship wise that Kai’sa struggled with. The Gumiho acted as a mentor to her. Someone who was patient and understanding. Ahri wanted to make sure that the process of Kai’sa being with them was a positive one for everyone involved and Kai’sa appreciated this immensely.
Kai could sing- but her vocal range and skill was nowhere level with the other three women. She and Ahri spent time in the house's recording studio practicing together and training Kai’sa’s voice. Ahri was always so gentle, so understanding and so sweet. It was clear the blonde wanted nothing more than to see Kai’sa succeed in her new career. It warmed the dancer’s heart. It made her feel appreciated, loved and respected.
Ahri had helped Kai’sa put away many things in her room and helped to make it feel like her own. Before she moved in, Ahri had picked out a paint colour and Kai’sa had been happy to move in and see the soft, pale lavender coating the walls. Her first night at the house though, Kai’sa had struggled. Nightmares are always something the dancer has combated over the years. Replays of her moms accidents, thoughts of losing her dad- all of them often accumulated into sleepless nights and interrupted sleep. The first night in the mansion- Kai’sa had woke up around 2 in the morning. Too scared to lay back down she had left her room and begun to wander aimlessly around. Eventually, she found herself at Ahri’s study where the Gumiho was still awake, back hunched over some papers.
Sensing the arrival of someone; Ahri had looked up to see Kai’sa’s pale face. Immediately the Gumiho knew something was wrong. She set aside her paperwork without question and accompanied Kai’sa back to her room where they stayed awake and talked about her nightmares and demons that plagued her thoughts when her eyes closed. That night, Ahri spent the entire of it in Kai’sa’s room. The Gumiho’s wide expanse of tails cascaded around them, curling around the dancer's lean body protectively as she slept and Ahri stroked her head gently. It was the first time in a long time Kai’sa had managed to sleep without interruption afterwards.
All in all, life in the mansion had very much worked out. It would take longer for things to settle; but Kai’sa was happy. Akali, Eve and Ahri had quickly managed to make their way into the dancer’s heart. Although she hadn’t known each of them for too long- to Kai’sa it had felt like she had known them for lifetimes.
The trio of women had certainly uprooted her life and changed it- but it was all for the better.
