Work Text:
Even when Fit wasn’t with Pac, he found himself always trying to keep an eye on him. Whether that meant looking at his map every three minutes, or physically watching him from a distance, Fit made sure he always knew where Pac was. It wasn’t because he was obsessive, it was because he was scared.
While Fit thought he was being discreet about it, Pac knew when he was watching from further away. He also knew Fit well enough to know he was looking at his map all the time, making sure nothing bad happened to Pac.
The thing most upsetting to Pac was that he couldn’t do anything to make Fit feel better other than tell him his plans for the day, where he’d be, and offer to hang out together. Pac knew that Fit appreciated it, but it still hurt him to see his partner fear him disappearing again.
He was working on the murder mystery area with Mike and Richas, trying to get back into the swing of things after everything. Pac getting kidnapped had set the build back even more than it had been when they went to prison. Now that he was back, he was eager to work on it again.
He was trying to ignore the fact that Walter Bob had gotten kidnapped here, and that they still hadn’t found him.
After working for a while, he heard Mike greet Fit and Ramón, the father-son pair coming to see what they were up to. They helped out for a while, but eventually work stopped happening, and the five of them ended up just chatting with each other.
The atmosphere was broken when Fit stiffened and said, “there’s footsteps. I think it’s a mob. I’ll be back.” Pac let him go, watching him scan the area for any danger, and saw the meathead at the same time Fit did. It was quickly ended by the anarchist’s potato cannon, barely a threat to anyone. But Pac could see the tension in his shoulders, and the white-knuckled grip he had on his cannon.
Fit came back, continuing on the conversation like nothing happened, not going unnoticed by anyone present. Even the two kids knew that Fit was brushing off something.
Pac made it his personal mission to try to talk to Fit later, when everyone was done with hanging out. He decided to keep an eye on Fit in return, rarely letting him leave his peripheral. Being the watcher was a different role for him, but he took it in stride, determined to help Fit feel as safe as possible.
Surprisingly, there were no more problems, making for a really chill and relaxing afternoon. Ramón and Richas ran around the murder mystery area, doing a little interior work while they were at it. Fit kept a watchful eye on them, an action not too noticeable to anyone who didn’t pay attention.
The boys got bored at some point, begging their parents to go for an evening walk around spawn with them. There wasn’t really any harm in going for a walk, considering how much Fit had lit up the island recently. It was peaceful, Pac reaching out to hold Fit’s hand, a comforting gesture. Pac’s hand was warmed instantly, his constantly cold fingers becoming a normal temperature for as long as Fit held his hand.
The two kids chased each other around, chirping and whistling as they played. At some point, Ramón and Richas ran off, the sun dipping lower and lower as they kept walking. The sky got dark enough to be considered night, which also meant bedtime for the eggs.
“Ramón! It’s time for bed!” When no eggs came out of the small wooded area they were walking through, Fit was immediately on edge.
“Richas?” Mike called, scanning the trees and areas in between for any sign of the boys.
A whistle came through the trees, cutting through the night’s sound with ease. It was followed by another whistle, a little higher in pitch, and lasting longer than the first.
The three adults ran for where the sound came from, and found the area completely overrun by mobs. It was unnatural, the amount of creatures that had spawned in such a well-lit part of the island.
Ramón was doing his best to protect his younger brother, who had already been slashed by a sword from a knight. Fit lept into battle, alternating between close ranged with his scythe, and long ranged with his cannon. Pac and Mike fought their way to the eggs, keeping them both close.
Fit had just finished killing an armoured zombie with an insane amount of health, and turned around just in time to see a skeleton fire an arrow at Ramón. It struck him in his arm, burying itself in deep, Ramón letting out a small yelp. Fit ran to go help his kid, getting the mob to focus on him instead of his son.
Even though they were killing mobs, it seemed like there was more than when they started.
“Kids, warp out! We’ll take care of this!” Fit shouted above the sounds of swords clashing and mobs being killed. The three adults protected the kids while they tried to warp out, and they eventually got it, disappearing from view to a presumably safe location.
With the kids gone, the fear that came with fighting was gone for Fit, no longer scared that Ramón would die. Well, die in combat, at least. He didn’t know how injured he was. It didn’t take too long for all the mobs to disappear, some being killed, others seeming to simply vanish.
When the last mob was killed, Fit breathed a sigh of relief, but kept his hold on the scythe, prepared if another mob came out unexpectedly. He pulled up his map, Pac and Mike doing the same, all of them looking for their kids. Both Ramón and Richas were at Chume Labs, both of them completely still on the map.
They had taken hits. They might need medical help.
No words exchanged, all of them teleported to Chume Labs, Fit following behind the Brazilians, since they definitely knew the layout better than him. They walked to the bedrooms, and found the two kids holed up in Mike’s room, both kids slumped on the floor instead of the bed.
Everything in Fit’s mind went static when he saw blood on Ramón. He rushed to his side, whispering his name like a prayer. Ramón’s eyes watered, whether with pain or relief was unclear to Fit, but he was sure he’d find out soon.
“Ramón, where are you hurt?” Fit asked, not even hearing what his friends were talking about with their son.
Ramón gestured to his arm, where there was a cut, and an arrow sticking out of it. “Good job, my boy, you kept the arrow in. I know it hurts, but I’ll fix it, okay?” Ramón nodded, tears silently falling down his face.
“Uh, where’s the first aid kit? Ramón has an arrow in him,” Fit asked his friends, looking over to see Mike standing to grab something from his closet. When he came back, he had a white box, putting it in between the two kids, so everyone could reach it.
Fit nodded his thanks, getting some gauze and bandages ready for when he pulled out the arrow. Ramón started shaking, presumably because he was scared to get the arrow pulled out. Fit knew that this wouldn’t work, and looked over to see Richas all patched up. Fit cleaned up Ramón’s cut, covering it with gauze, but Ramón still wouldn’t let him come near the arrow.
“Richarlyson, can you come give Ramón a hug? He has an arrow in his shoulder. I need to get it out.” Richas was more than happy to comply, sitting on Ramón’s other side, the one without the arrow. Pac had grabbed Ramón’s hand, a comforting gesture, but also to keep his son’s arm in one place.
Fit didn’t bother with a countdown, knowing it would just make Ramón freak out. He pulled the arrow out, and his son let out a singular sob, then stifled it.
“Ramón, you can cry, it’s okay,” Pac comforted, Fit a little preoccupied with wrapping and cleaning the wound. There was a lot more blood than he ever wanted to see on his son, but he cleaned it off, putting the dirty supplies in a pile to be thrown out later.
When Fit was finished, he scooped Ramón into his arms, detaching him from Pac and Richas. Mike threw out the used supplies, and put away the reusable stuff, the kit going back in his closet. He gently rocked his son back and forth, a hand in his hair, mumbling reassurances and praises to his boy.
That was when Ramón broke. He heard the sobs start up again, this time his son letting them out. Fit put Ramón’s head in the crook of his neck, feeling the tears hit his skin. Fit nearly started crying too, simply because he didn’t like seeing his son hurt or upset.
They paced the room for a little, Fit rocking his son. He felt a tug at his leg, and looked down to see Richas staring at him with sad eyes. Fit sat on the floor so Richas could better see and touch Ramón. His son looked at his brother, having turned around in Fit’s hold, and chirped at him. Richas frowned, chirping back, grabbing Ramón’s hand. His boy whistled, a sad sounding one, and Richas carefully wrapped his arms around his older brother.
“We should probably put the kids to bed,” Mike said, watching the scene with a mixture between fondness and sadness. Pac put his hands on Fit’s shoulders, gently massaging them with his fingers, making his muscles relaxed after being tense for so long.
Ramón and Richas both crawled into Mike’s bed, the man jokingly getting mad at them for robbing him of his bed. Then he snuggled right up to his son, and grabbed Ramón’s hand, reaching over Richas’ body to do so. Mike was asleep in less than a minute, but Fit could tell Ramón was still awake, even without seeing his face.
He came around to his side of the bed, and saw lingering tears in his eyes. He wiped them away, and tried to find the issue. “Do you want to sleep somewhere else, Ramón?” His boy shook his head, pulling the blanket up higher.
“Are you not tired?” Again, Ramón shook his head, a yawn slipping out, showing off Ramón’s little canines.
“Oh! I haven’t given you your lullaby yet,” Fit realised, Ramón nodded to indicate he was correct. He sang his lullaby, keeping it quiet to not wake up Mike. Richas had turned his head to hear it, his eyes also slipping closed.
“Sweet dreams, mi huevito, I’ll see you tomorrow,” Fit whispered, pressing a kiss to his son’s forehead.
Pac came up behind him carefully, resting his hands on his shoulders once again. Fit stood back up, seeing that Pac had changed clothes while he and Mike put the kids to bed. Somehow, Fit’s hand had found its way around Pac’s in a secure, but not tight, grip.
His partner led the way out of the room, Fit turning off the light on his way out. The shorter man also had prepared his room for sleep, the lights turned down slightly, and the blinds closed. They finally had a moment to themselves, after such a long and stressful day.
“Hey,” Pac said to him, sliding his hands to Fit’s middle, pulling him closer to Pac.
Fit kissed the top of his partner’s head in lieu of an answer, hugging the shorter man close. He felt Pac’s cold fingers through his shirt, grabbing at the fabric.
They stayed like that for a while, then Pac let go to shut the door, closing it quietly to not wake the people sleeping in the other room.
“You’ve been on edge pretty much all day. What’s up?” Pac asked, hands going to Fit’s bare forearms.
“Ramón getting shot, and Richas also getting hurt… it scared me.” Pac could hear the worry in his voice, the anarchist somewhat telling the truth. Obviously, Fit was concerned with their safety, but Pac knew that wasn’t the only thing on his partner’s mind.
“I know, but even before that you were tense,” Pac insisted gently, being careful not to push too far.
Fit sighed shakily, and decided to answer truthfully. The full truth this time. “I- I’ve just been having more nightmares lately. I haven’t been able to get as much sleep, and any I do get makes me feel worse.”
Pac frowned at him, hands wandering up to hold Fit’s jaw, smoothing his thumb over his lips. “You should have told me. I would have invited you to sleep here.” Fit just closed his eyes briefly, seeming to savour Pac’s touch.
When his eyes opened again, there was a certain fondness in them, something much more soft than before. Fit leaned in, and Pac closed the distance, their lips pressing together in a gentle, but long, kiss. Pac’s hands found purchase on the back of Fit’s neck, and Fit’s fingers were shoved into Pac’s black hair.
The feeling was unlike anything Fit could ever describe. He’s never kissed anyone in a romantic way, and it was a feeling that he would be chasing for the rest of his life. He deepened the kiss, bringing Pac closer to his body, feeling the coldness become warmer.
All Pac was feeling was pure bliss. Fit’s hands in his hair, his gentle movements, all of it was very endearing to Pac. He no longer felt cold, even if the feeling would come creeping back after he let go of Fit. He was warm for once, he was kissing Fit, and he was going to savour every last moment of it.
They pulled away, smiling at each other with stupidly loving smiles, still keeping hold on one another. Neither of them could seem to help it, and they kissed a second time. This time, it was more passionate, Fit moving one hand from his hair to his lower back, supporting him as he leaned his partner down more. Pac moved his hands too, one going under Fit’s shoulder, the other going to the side of his head.
Pac couldn’t believe how lucky he was, having a partner this loving, this caring, and willing to do anything for him.
Fit couldn’t believe how lucky he was. Pac was perfect. He was funny, he was very smart, and, most importantly, he understood him.
He pulled Pac upright once more, both of them pulling back slightly, getting a good look at each other’s faces. Fit moved towards the bed, leaving his clothes in a pile near the bed, and made the lights even dimmer. Pac was standing, watching him from where they were kissing not a minute earlier. Fit made his way back over there, wearing much less clothes than before. Pac blushed a bit, making Fit laugh at his partner.
“Bedtime?” Fit asked, arms snaking around the middle of his back. Pac nodded, rubbing an eye with the heel of his hand. Fit scooped him up, an arm going behind his partner’s knees, and the other under his neck. Pac yelped quietly, surprised, but quickly relaxing in his partner’s hold, a light dusting of pink covering his face.
Fit put him on the bed, kneeling by his side to take off Pac’s prosthetic leg, setting it down on the floor close enough so he didn’t have to hop over to it. Fit rounded the bed, crawling in on the other side. Pac rolled over, taking off Fit’s prosthetic arm, putting it on his bedside table.
Pac snuggled right up to Fit’s chest, warming the smaller man up quite quickly. Pac was determined to drive away Fit’s nightmares. He knew that sleeping in another place was putting him on edge, and that he was extremely worried for his son, who he had to pull an arrow out of tonight.
His arms wrapped around Fit’s chest, rubbing his back with care. Fit swung a leg over Pac’s hip, making him feel secure. Like he wasn’t going anywhere. Fit’s hand landed on his shoulder, going under Pac’s arm. They were a tangle of limbs under the blanket, and that was exactly what they needed at that moment.
His partner’s eyes were closed, so Fit pressed a quick kiss to Pac’s lips, then settled completely into the bed, and into his lover’s arms. He felt Pac kiss him on his neck in return, curling up to put his head there. Fit put his chin on his head of hair, sharing one pillow between the two of them.
“Te amo, Pac,” Fit mumbled into his hair, teetering on the edge of sleep.
Pac laughed into his partner’s chest, and whispered back, “te amo, Fit.”
He remembered.
Pac smiled, finally falling asleep, feeling Fit breathing deep and slow with him. They would check on their kids, and Mike, in the morning. For now, Pac had some nightmares to chase away.
