Under the Sea [Illustration]

Many a strange wonder lurks under the deep blue sea. Arthur experiences one such wonders after going overboard.

Notes:

I really enjoy painting the dark waters and dappled lighting. I feel like most mermaid au pics make the lighting too neon bright so I wanted something more menacing and dark. It was a lot of fun designing Eames' tattoos!

My art for Inception Reverse Bang 2015! I drew merman Eames (who, of course, had to be obnoxiously loud in color). I really enjoyed painting the water and dappled lighting. Many thanks to motetus and konoyo for lending their eyes on this piece!

aslkdalsjflkjshf god this is so gorgeous. The lighting, the underwater atmosphere, Eames's tattoos, the entire scene you've set. EVERYTHING.

I still don't think I've told you enough how much I love this. Eames is just fantastic - his fins and markings are beautiful, but the claws and the jagged edges of his tattoos and the cold, predatory glint in his eyes make him feel very wild and dangerous and you're not sure whether he's going to save Arthur (whose twisted posture is amazing!) or drag him further down into those murky depths. I love the bits of background too - the incredible lighting, those ships giving an idea of just how far under the surface they are, and the blurry shoal of fish darting past. It's such an awesome piece of art, and it's amongst my very favourites of yours.

Oh wow, this is really gorgeous! I love the use of color. The vividness of Eames' fins and markings really pop against the shimmering sunlit water. (Which also, the water is amazing. The way you got the light rays light that blows my mind.) I'm a mediocre-sometimes-watercolor painter and I'm so impressed by this, because it must have been an amazing amount of work. Just lovely.

Oh this is so much nicer to look at than tumblr's 540px width. I really like the lighting on Arthur's face, and the gem at Eames' throat is a really interesting choice, I wonder if you had anything in mind for it or if it is just a lovely design element. I def agree with motetus though, I love the sharp edges that suggest this isn't your typical Little Mermaid scenario. c:

  Thank you~! I didn't want a bright shiny little mermaid story/feel no XD most mermaid pics tend to look too Disney for me so I wanted a bit of a sinister edge to it.

Absolutely gorgeous, as usual. Love the sense of danger and darkness in it. Also, Eames' tattoos are unique and incredible.

This is amazing! I haven't seen your other art yet, so this is a great introduction. I really love the water effects around Eames' tail, and the way you painted Arthur's skin. His ribs seem to echo the tattoo on Eames' clavicle, those were the first things I noticed.

I like your art, the lighting is gorgeous! But I just have to mention, the scales should go in the opposite direction, for aerodynamic reasons :) Unless, of course, Eames is a rebel and swims backwards.
