Chapter Text
“I know why you’re signing up for this club,” a voice suddenly pipes up from behind Yushi where he’s filling in his registration form. He jumps from shock and turns to look at the person who startled him in annoyance.
It’s Riku—annoying, pesky, Riku.
Yushi doesn’t quite know what it is about Riku that he dislikes but Jungmin has once pointed out that he’s the most stand-offish with him in their friend group. It isn’t like Yushi disliked Riku from the start, he just didn’t like his vibe. Didn’t appreciate how he was always finding some way to tease Yushi, and he definitely didn’t like the way Riku is always being dotted by Sion either.
Yushi’s not a jealous person, by any means, but Riku—there’s just something about him that gets beneath his skin.
“I joined the club because I wanna take care of animals,” Yushi answers and turns back to his paper. He feels Riku move to stand beside him, peering at his form over his shoulder. Yushi wanted to brush him off but he knows how persistent Riku can get so he lets him be instead.
“I’m pretty sure that’s not the only reason you’re signing up for the Animal Welfare Club.” Riku snorts, hooking his chin on Yushi’s shoulder. “Remember last year when the members of that club had to raise a bunch of chicks? Yeah, I don’t think you’re doing it for that considering you’re not even into farm animals, city boy.”
Yushi shrugs him off this time, turning to glare at him when Riku only laughs. “Stop annoying me. What’s it to you if I join this club or not anyway? And don’t you have to sign up for your own club too?”
“Already did. There was a really cool senior who had to evaluate us—I think his name is Mark. Not sure. And I got in, obviously.” Riku proudly says, chest puffing up.
Yushi huffs at him. “Didn’t. Don’t care. Besides, that doesn’t answer why you’re even here. This is the Animal Welfare Club. As far as I know, the Neo Club is all the way to the other end of the building.”
“You did ask,” Riku points out and proceeds to hook his chin on Yushi’s shoulders again when he turns back to his form. “And besides, Sion asked me to come here. He said the club could need support considering there’s only a handful of students who even want to register here.”
Yushi side-eyes him. “Sion asked you to come?”
Riku smirked, amused and all-knowing. “I knew you weren’t just signing up for the animals. You’re signing up because Sion is here.” He whispered right into Yushi’s ear.
Yushi pushes him off, face and neck flushing red from being caught and from the other man’s proximity. “Shut up. Other people could hear you!”
“I’m sure you’ve got nothing to worry about, almost everyone knows about your crush except for Sion himself.”
“What about me?” a voice suddenly says from behind them both. They both turn to look at the person in panic. It’s Sion, with his soft smile and his even kinder eyes.
“Oh, we were…we were talking about, uh…” Riku stutters before eyeing Yushi and elbowing him.
Yushi glares at him and sighs. “We were talking about how you needed help for the club?”
Sion’s face lights up, immediately grinning at them. He places his arms on either of their shoulders and steers them to the entrance of the classroom that the club has borrowed. “I can’t believe you guys are volunteering to be members! I know there’s not many people that are interested in this club but I swear, we’re going to have so much fun taking care of animals.”
Riku blinks, stumped. He looks at Yushi in panic. “Volunteering to be a member? What? I didn’t know that was the help you need. I’m—”
“He’s so excited about joining the club, aren’t you, Riku?” Yushi butts in, eyes narrowed in on Riku’s wooden smile.
Riku closes his eyes and dejectedly nods, accepting defeat.
After all, if there’s one thing in the world that he—the perfect person that he is—can’t do, it’s saying no to Yushi.
“Yup. So thrilled. Can’t wait to milk cows and take chicken eggs.” He says with a grimace. Sion is practically vibrating from excitement right next to him. Riku eyes his elated grin and Yushi’s soft smile and figures milking cows and taking chicken eggs can’t be that bad, right? Especially when he’s got his two favorite people to do it with him.
Yeah, joining the Animal Welfare Club would probably be good for him.
