Work Header

The spotlight never shines upon those who are broken

Summary:

No matter how hard Mika tried, he could never seem to be as perfect as Nazuna. No matter how hard he tried, he was just a doll collecting dust at the back shelf, while Nazuna bathes in light in the front, as Shu praises him.

Notes:

Ex valkyrie :(

Work Text:

Step, turn, step again, turn, sing.

Mika rehearses this dance over and over again. Yet, he’s always one second off, or his voice is too high or low. All these mistakes, he’s never perfect.

Mika knows this, after all, he was… The afterthought of Valkyrie. He’s a support teammate while Nazuna and Shu bask in the spotlight, making fans in the audience go awe at their performance. Mika desperately wanted this attention, he wanted to be perfect. He wanted to make the audience look at him.

But Shu, the most perfect man on the planet, always seemed to point out something wrong Mika did. Mika never complained, Shu knows what’s best for this unit. Mika wanted to improve, he wanted to show Shu he can stand on the stage with Nazuna and him and feel equal.

Yet, the chance never came.

Mika never seemed to be good enough.

Mika never will be good enough.

He’s just a broken doll, he supposes. He’s nothing compared to Nazuna, who is an almost replica of Shu, the embodiment of perfection. Nazuna gracefully dances and with such an angelic voice… Oh, perfection in a doll he is.

Shu is no exception. Oh no, he is perfection. His dance moves are all perfectly timed. His voice is always the right pitch… Mika was absolutely enamoured by him.

And Mika? Mika was… A bit… Basic. His dance moves were a bit wobbly, and his voice was pathetically basic and plain compared to his unitmates.

Even though the black haired boy knew this, he never stopped trying. Not even when Shu pushed them to the brink, trying to prepare them for a battle against Fine. Mika never lost his confidence.

Not even when Fine had crushed Valkyrie like a bug.

Mika’s a broken doll, loyal to his master.

No matter how hard it it, Mika refuses to give up on Shu. Shu is his everything, no matter how broken the dollmaster is, Mika will comfort him.

Mika becomes a regular at the Itsuki residence, he even was offered to have his own room. He said no, he decided to sleep in Shu’s room.

Shu needed to be fed and had to drink water from someone else helping him. Mika… Secretly felt like a babysitter, but it’s okay! It’s Shu!

…And where was Nazuna?

Gone.

A traitor, Mika thinks.

How dare he abandoned Shu. How could he just let valkyrie burn like Icarus? They wanted the light, and got burned by it. Nazuna saw this, and just… Left.

Wasn’t Valkyrie important to Nazuna? Why wasn’t he here?!

“Tenshoiun Eichi…” Shu mutters.

Oh right, no use thinking about that waste of a perfect doll, he has bigger issues.

“Kagehira?”

Mika was taken out of the past by Shu’s voice. A voice he could only hear for the rest of his life and die happy. Mika gave the artist a smile, one that he usually gave his beloved after a concert.

“Oh? Wha’ is it, Oshi-san?”

Shu frowned, “You zoned out in the middle of my sentence!”

“Ngh! ‘M sorry, Oshi-san!” Mika said with a slight bow.

Shu sighed, “Well, no matter. I was just saying how you did… Rather nice during our last performance…” The artist blushed.

Mika blinked for a second, then smiled and tackled Shu into a hug, “Oh! Oh, thank you kindly, Oshi-san!!”

“Ngh, Kagehira! Let go!”

Mika only smiled and hugged Shu tighter, Shu blushed and looked away, but eventually let himself melt into the embrace and kiss Mika at the top of his head.
