My Baby's Arms

Summary:

You and Optimus spend some time relaxing in the forest.

Notes:

Context in case you aren’t familiar with North American birds: mourning doves sound absolutely nothing like robins. This was inspired by the song “Baby’s Arms” by Kurt Vile. It’s a really sweet song.

Work Text:

These were the moments you wished could last forever. Serenely resting under the forest’s canopy, wrapped in the arms of your darling, and listening to the birdsong drifting through the air.

“That’s a robin,” you spoke softly, leaning back to rest in the crook of Optimus’ arm.

He gave you a playfully skeptical look, “It absolutely is not ,” he chuckled. “You must be joking, dear one.”

“Nuh-uh,” you said knowingly, closing your eyes and enjoying the warm rays of light that broke through the leaves.

You were joking, only because the Prime was just so easy to tease. He didn’t always get your sarcasm and you couldn’t help but sometimes take advantage of that fact. All in the name of  lighthearted fun of course.

“Oh hush you little liar,” he gave you a sly smile, “You taught me that’s the sound of a mourning dove,” he narrowed his optics in suspicion, “unless you’re admitting to lying back then instead.”

“Well, sometimes robins can sound like mourning doves, so I understand your confusion,” you teased, opening one eye to see his reaction.

“No, no, they sound like this,” Optimus tried to mimic the dove’s song and you had to stifle your giggles. He stopped when he heard your laughter and raised his brow in suspicion, “Oh! you did this on purpose,” he huffed. His realization made it impossible for you to keep quiet now.

“Yes, but,” he lifted his arm up and nuzzled his helm against your stomach, tickling you, making you squirm and laugh harder, “I didn’t expect the bird call though! That was all you.”

Optimus started laughing with you, amused by the silly ruse. His helm was no longer on your stomach, instead he was now using a servo to cover your torso. You held onto his digits, pulling them closer to give each one a kiss before pressing the servo to your stomach. You loved how he could embrace you like this, how it was practically a blanket you could snuggle under, and sometimes you did. All you needed as an escape from the world was to hide in his hands.

“I’m sorry honey,” you gave an apologetic smile, “Your reaction was just too cute, I can’t help myself sometimes.”

“Only you,” he sighed, shaking his helm, “only you could ever get away with it, love.”

“Which is all the more reason to take advantage of such a privilege,” you beamed and began shifting positions.

He removed his servo and you pointed towards his shoulder, so up you went, coming to rest there. You leaned against his helm and he settled into your touch.

“Do you actually like it out here, or do you come out ‘cus I like it?” you asked after a few minutes had passed.

“Why do you ask?” Optimus tried to turn his helm in your direction, but you were still pressed against him.

“Well, I don’t know. I could imagine spending all this time looking at nature might remind you of home. I guess I was wondering if it makes you miss Cybertron.”

“Oh no,” he chuckled, “Cybertron’s wildlife is much, much different. Besides, this is my home now too and I enjoy learning more about it.”

He brought a servo op to his shoulder, signaling for you to slide down so he could hold you. He lifted your body to face him and gave you a sly grin.

“Plus it’s an excellent opportunity to be alone with you,” he winked.

You smiled back at him and leaned in to kiss his forehelm, before kissing his cheeks, and finally giving him a peck on the lips.

“No judgmental stares or nosy eyes following us around,” you hummed in delight, “I think that might be my favorite part actually, especially since it makes doing this much easier,” you added before giving him another sweet kiss.

Optimus pulled you against his chassis and kissed the top of your head as you snuggled into his embrace. Basking here in the warmth of his arms, the rest of the world seemed to melt away. These moments of total peace are the ones you hold most dear to you, and right now, you couldn’t be more content, daydreaming of a future filled with endless days nestled together in the forest.
