Lan Xichen decided that he cannot understand what is going on around him.
With the situation as it is now, he could only get that his brother-in-law, who is Wei WuXian had attacked some Jin cultivators. Which is unreasonable, for his nephew is the current Jin sect leader and Wei WuXian would never, under any circumstances, do something to harm him.
Listening again he hears them saying that the man took off to the burial mounds next.
What in the name of the holy vegetables!
This cannot happen, his brother's husband -who slowly through the past three and half years crawled his way into Xichen's heart to become another brother- is still recovering from child birth -even though it has been 3 years already- his new body was apparently very fragile still. Although it was through surgery, it was still exhausting and its recovery journey demanding, and thus Wei WuXian had been lazing around on his bed, bunny field and on Wangji's lap whenever he was not tending to the baby's needs.
Also, how more stupid can those people be? Obviously his brother -who weirdly enough looks younger than he remembers him- is sitting beside him and is not with Wei Ying.. which is impossible!
His brother is known as WuXian's shadow just as much as WuXian is for him.
WangJi and WuXian were always together unless they got into a fight which is very very extremely rare but not unheard of. And even then , they never went so far away from each other. Especially for long periods of time.
And if it came to that, WuXian would either come to him or WangJi and say that he's going to stay in Yunmeng or would be taking SiZhui and JingYi with him on a long term night hunt.
Thus despite his confusion XiChen leaned towards WangJi and asked, voice low:
"Have WuXian informed you of his departure to the burial grounds, WangJi?"
To his utter continued confusion, his brother looked perplexed by the question. Startled even!!
"No" was his only answer.

*Gasp!* Oh no, oh nO.
Don't tell me they fought so hard and so badly that WuXian decided that he cannot do this anymore!
Unbelievable, my brother in law wouldn't do this. Not until WangJi screwed up greatly which is what probably happened. Because up until now, ever since that far too shameless confession between the two, Wei WuXian was so attached to WangJi that he couldn't stay mad at him for so long.
That if he still couldn't forget his frustration and disappointment and upset-Ness at WangJi he would still be around.
And if they were away from each other after a fight he trembles in fear of losing him . Of losing someone dear to him. Again.
So , if that Wei WuXian ended up deciding to just get up and leave my brother. And by the looks of it A-Yuān -with character 渊 (yuān) that means deep, gush forth, that gives the meaning of flowing deep- is not here. Not by my side neither by Wangji's and certainly not by his brother (SiZhui) who is also not here. My brother really did something so so bad for this to happen.

This cannot happen. Despite what he says Wuxian is still recovering. His body is still vulnerable, not in a way that would kill him or leave him unable to fight, but in a way that leaves him short of breath. With occasional headaches from time to time. And to think WangJi let him alone and broke his heart deeply to the point he took his precious youngest nephew and left altogether! Xichen cannot accept that.
That is why, Lan XiChen interrupted whoever was speaking and saying some rubbish about punishing the Yiling Patriarch -who even still uses that title nowadays? His youngest brother recruited a new name for himself so fitting. "奔放 : Bēnfàng -jun : unrestrained"- and loudly reprimanded his own brother in the middle of cultivators gathering there from other sects.
Chief cultivator or not, Lan WangJi is still his brother and he is still his sect leader. He has a right to do that. Otherwise he is risking losing his two nephews and chattery brother
"Lan WangJi, just what did you do to make Wuxian angry and this upset for him to go there again? Where is my nephew?! Why did brother-in-law leave. Did you fight again? For what this time? WangJi listen here, I want my little nephew back, I want my cheerful little brother back!"
The audacity! His brother has the nerves to act innocent as if he did nothing. As if XiChen is spitting nonsense.
"Brother.. what- who- what do you mean?"
Xichen is not going to be fooled by those troubled eyes. He has seen WangJi use them for his advantage against WuXian multiple times. It wouldn't work on him.
Someone from the Yao sect dared to interrupt their serious conversation asking what he's talking about and who is this brother in law.
Seriously, did they lose the last brain cell they had left or what? Or does the Yao clan just not educate their disciples? He wouldn't be terribly surprised.
"Wei WuXian, my precious brother-in-law who gave birth to my equally precious nephew, the husband of my foolish younger brother here"
'whom who knows what did he do or say to warrant such reaction from WuXian' left unsaid.
His brother did a very strange voice in the back of his throat at that , almost like a squeak. His brother is indeed acting weirdly, no doubt WuXian had his share fed up.
And again someone from the Ouyang sect this time proclaimed "But - but but but.. but the Yiling Patriarch attacked the Jin sect cultivators and killed them, turned Wen Qionglin into fierce corpse and freed the remaining Wen"
What is this person's problem with speaking? Can't he talk normally without that embarrassing amount of 'buts' that almost sound like the lower back region of a body? And why is he bringing an old topic up now?
"Ah that, well my sweet sweet adorable nephew was imprisoned there, and Wen QiongLin was a kind soul who helped my brother-in-law before and during the war along with his sister maiden Wen Qing, then he also helped in my nephew's difficult birth. Of course Wei WuXian had to repay his debt"
Gasps filled the hall. Honestly; Quoting Jiang WanYin 'what a completely foolish, ignorant and stupid people'. If he is quoting someone he is not badmouthing people, thus he didn't break the rule of not speaking ill of people
"Anyway, anyhow" he turned once again to face his brother "WangJi, didi. Be honest with me, xiongzhang will understand, what did you fight about again? Did you tell him not to go on night hunts? You know he is still sensitive about that topic. He feels useless if he doesn't do something, especially after his miscarriage recently, his body is still recovering that he cannot use spiritual energy yes, but resentful energy is okay. It recognises him as its master, as someone to protect, even from you. So he isn't entirely defenseless. Let him do what he wants unless he feels suffocated"
Oh , weird, he feels his head hurts, his eyes spinning like wew~wew, and before he knows it, Lan XiChen passes out. Unconscious.
What a shame, he still couldn't pry whatever the reason from his didi. He has to postpone this interrogation to tomorrow.
