Kyle’s Bedroom AU
“Jess, wait…” Rory says, barely above a whisper. His hands pause, still slipped underneath her. They’re cold against the soft skin of her waist. He lifts his head from the crook of her neck. Hovering above her in the darkness of Kyle’s bedroom - it was difficult for Rory to ask him to stop. His mouth felt so good on her, and it wasn’t as if she hadn’t been wondering when this time would come. She loved him, afterall, and she knew he loved her. He showed her in the way he held her hand, the way his voice softened when he spoke to her, and the way he wrote in the margins of her favourite novels.
But… as comfortable as the bed they were laying on was - it wasn’t hers. It wasn’t even his. It smelt of someone else - and she could hear people talking on the other side of the door only a few feet away. Rory didn’t want her mind anywhere else when her and Jess did take that next step - and she knew that if that happened now… her head would be somewhere else. Jess looks at her, his eyes soft, and his face only partially lit by the moonlight coming in the window. He waits - and this is why she loves him… because he isn’t the type of guy to ignore when his girlfriend asks him to wait. No matter if he’s been seeming… sad, or withdrawn recently. He will always prioritise Rory feeling safe.
Looking up into his eyes, she isn’t sure how to say what she wants to say. Rory knows Jess has been here before, with other girls. Girls that wouldn’t ask him to wait… But Rory is nervous. She loves the feel of him on top of her - how he fits so nicely between her thighs, and how his rough hands wind into her hair as he kisses her. It sends her mind to places that they never visited with anyone else - and he makes her feel safe to open herself to him in this way…
“Jess…” she whispers. She doesn’t know how to express where her mind is right now.
“What is it?” he asks, leaning in gently to kiss her. Its purposely soft. A kiss to tell her that he is listening - that he is waiting to hear what she has to say. That he isn’t ignoring her.
“I… I… I can hear someone throwing up in the bathroom” Rory starts, “and Kyle’s mom uses way too much detergent on these sheets. And there’s no good music playing… I mean I can hear the music from downstairs but I’ve never been much of a fan of electronic music, and I know you aren’t either, and…” She’s rambling, and Jess smiles as he watches her. His hand comes up to caress the side of her face, and he kisses her again. Slowly and soft.
“Yeah… this song sucks”.
The two of them lay there, still holding each other, looking at each other, caught in a moment of push and pull. Rory is so glad that Jess speaks her language - she didn’t even have to say not here, not now for Jess to hear her. And his response tells her everything she needs to know. He wants her, but he also hears her. Jess wants this first time to be special for Rory, because he knows how important that is for Rory.
“But…” Rory whispers. She feels a blush rising in her cheeks, and she can’t help but smile, “That doesn’t mean that I’m not ready…”.
He eyes her - clearly surprised. Rory can feel Jess pressed against her, can feel how much he wants her… and she can feel him become even more wanting as the revelation settles in his mind. Rory is ready…
A wide grin spreads across his face, and then a small laugh escapes him. He hands his head, face on her chest, and holds her tighter. Rory can’t help but laugh with him. The vulnerability of this moment is so overwhelming, so exciting, that she can’t help but laugh. They’re going to have sex. And clearly, Jess is just as happy about that as Rory is.
Jess leans in and kisses Rory, fast and quick, cutting off their nervous laughter. Then pulls himself off of her. He stands there - and Rory can’t help but think that he looks so good. His previous moodiness has all but disappeared. He holds his hand out to her, and she takes it, being hoisted off the bed.
“Well then…” she giggles, “Your place or mine?”
Jess doesn’t need to be told twice. Still holding her hand, he leads her out of the bedroom. They make their way down the crowded walls - the smell of stale beer and cigarettes strong in the air. He lets go of her hand and tucks her underneath his arm, holding her against him as they make their way down the stars. Rory can’t help but think that right now there are only a few pieces of fabric separating his body from hers - and soon enough there will be none. The thought sends a hot flush down her body, and she is sure that her cheeks are red as beets. She giggles again, looking up at him. His angular jaw, his shaggy hair, his crooked smile. It is all perfect. This is her Jess.
Jess leads her down the stairs, and they pass Dean on the way. Rory barely notices him until Jess, uncharacteristically, says “Dean”, and gives him a nod of greeting, “Have a good night”.
Dean is taken aback - it’s not like Jess has ever gone out of his way to be friendly to him before… After a couple of seconds, where Dean probably gauges whether Jess is being sarcastic, he smiles and says slowly “Yeah.. you too”.
Jess chuckles, then leans down to kiss Rory gently on the head, “Oh, we will.”
Rory can’t help but laugh - the absurdity of Jess and his boldness. Together they flounce down the stairs, out the front door, and towards their next step.
