Chapter Text
If someone had asked Gojo to describe his day in one word, it would have been
Shit.
His favorite bakery had sold out his to-get-locked-in-for strawberry chiffon cake.
He was finally having a few days of break, after a month of non-stop curse hunting, but had to grade his student’s assignments and file, lackluster, reports.
Shoko didn’t have to hang out, even though she could spare some time to dissect another corpse.
And the worsest of the worst.
Nanami refused to go on a date with him.
Remembering that same morning where the blaze sandy blond haired man rejected him on his invite to come over to “Netflix and chill and eat ramen.” to which he only received an annoyed sigh and a back turned to him.
“I don’t have time for this, I need to go on my mission now, my window is already waiting in the car. Also Gojo san, don’t you have classes to teach ? Wait-“ as he fastened his cleaver to its brown leather sheath, Gojo couldn’t help but stare at the movement of the blue fabric stretching across the grumpy sorcerer’s wide back. “you’re on a break starting today aren’t you ? You should go home and relax, I know you don’t watch movies, or even better treat yourself to a nice meal, not diabetes packed if your capable of that, a bath and sleep. You deserve it.” Clasping a thick hand to his shoulder, Gojo almost dropped his infinity at the touch, unfortunately, before he could, it was already gone, as was Nanami.
How did he know I had days off ?
Having spent a big part of the afternoon outside, the lonely man returned to his high raise appartement building.
“MRPPPPP~” the deep, gravelly sound came from a cul de sac next to him. Suddenly turning around the corner, he saw a big ball of fluff starring intently at him, its little, squinted eyes, almost as if trying to pierce his skull. Gojo remarked that it’s hair was wheaty in color, but looked clean, the cat looking just a bit rumpled from being on the streets.
“Did you call for me?” Gojo squatted in front of the cat trying to pet it, now from a closer look seemed extremely large, like a Maine coon, the animal seemed startled, brown eyes squinting even more in displeasure and…embarrassment?
The moment the thought went through his head, the cat seemed to want to confirm it, as it turned its head away from Gojo.
“Are you rejecting me also?” Gojo couldn’t help but chuckle a bit at his misfortune, humans disliked his personality, curses, rightfully, feared and hated him in equal parts, and even animal despised him.
Only I, am truly alone.
You look well groomed for a street cat; you don’t seem to have a collar.” Gojo’s lack of interaction made him forget that he was talking to a cat and not another human being who could answer. “Maybe you’ll find your way back, or someone will look for you and find you. Lucky.” A bitter smile bloomed on his face. At the words, the cat looked at him without blinking, as if in disbelief, watching Gojo stand up once more.
“Mrrrrrrrp !” Gojo stopped in his tracks as a flash of blond fur blocked his exit path, he looked at the elegantly sat on its hind legs cat, front paws straight, and planted on the ground. Chin up as if defying him, asking him to dare taking another step.
“You don’t want me to touch you but want me to stay?”
“…”
“Can I pet you at least? You know, well you cannot know you’re a cat, I’m the strongest sorcerer around, and I could just, ya know, leave. You gotta give me a little something.”
The cat seemed resigned, and in a, even by Gojo’s nonstandard lifestyle, bizarre way understood everything, tilting its head toward him.
Approval.
Something he hadn’t received for a long time.
The fur was extremely soft, and very fluffy. Trying to reach the cat’s body through the mass wasn’t an easy process, but once he reached it, he understood that under all the impressive coat was just a small, fragile body. Big on the outside, but with a soft center. Heartwarming, Gojo’s smile morphed into a genuine one, taking off his blindfold, he looked directly at the creature.
He kept his hand gentle, and it seemed to make the cat react, a bit involuntarily, as it started to round up its back to meet with Gojo’s hand more often.
“Hey buddy.” Ten minutes later, Gojo’s voice came out again.
“Mrpp ?”
“Do you have plans? You can come upstairs if you want? I understand if you didn’t want to, even my friends don’t like hanging out.”
“Mrp.” The cat seemed deadpan, probably at the long sentence that a human was throwing at him. Or…seemed to rebuke the statement?
“I won’t grab you, if you want to come with me, come, otherwise—” putting his blindfold back on, the normalcy of his face left, leaving only his identity of Gojo Satoru the sorcerer on display, a wry but still grateful smile “Thanks for giving me some time, it’s more that I could hope for nowadays.” Making his way out of the impasse, Gojo couldn’t help but think about his emotional mindset, and feeling of loneliness filling him up, especially today on this shitty day.
His musings distracted him enough to not hear the hurried tap of paws behind him, before a head bumped into his cold, infinity clad, calves. Looking down, the cat was staring at where it knew Gojo’s gaze was hidden, before rubbing past him, tail comfortingly circling his ankle for a few seconds before going ahead of him, toward his appartement building.
Despite the infinity. The place where the cat had…tried to pat him back? seemed to tingle the same way Nanami’s encouraging pat had the same morning.
Speaking of the man, that cat oddly resembled him. Thinking about his colleague and friend gave him a bit more energy, Gojo’s teasing nature flaring back up.
“I’ll dress up this cat and send Nanamin a picture!” The look the cat seemed to throw him back was equal parts annoyed and horrified, to Gojo’s puzzlement.
