Work Text:
House was sitting in the visitor's chair long legs stretched out feet propped up on the bed PSP in his hand. He looked the picture of nonchalance but his eyes were subtly focused on the monitors instead of his game absorbing all the data, monitoring the temperature for potential infection, blood pressure and pulse for signs of pain, he didn’t trust the nurses not with this patient he needed to know for himself that everything was OK.
The monitors indicated an increase in heart rate as Wilson stirred in the bed, House lowered his leg and put his game aside holding Wilson’s wrist manually taking his pulse, reassuring himself that his best friend would be OK.
‘You’re an idiot.’
Wilson smiled then flinched as his incisions pulled. House stood up stiffly, he’d spent the surgery standing in the OR observation while Wilson was in surgery then sitting next to his bed once he’d come out of the theatre and his leg was pissed.
He unlocked the IV box upping Wilson’s morphine watching his friend relax slightly as the drug took effect. ‘How are you feeling?’ House asked sitting back down and lifting his leg back onto the side of Wilson’s bed before rubbing his thigh.
Wilson was temporarily stunned into silence ‘You’re asking how I’m feeling?’ House nodded, ‘I must have died on the table, is this hell?’ He asked sarcastically.
House glared at him but there was no heat, he looked out of the glass doors towards the hallway ‘I was worried about you, giving up part of your liver to that self-important jerk.’
Wilson started to sit up slightly looking more serious now ‘I’m fine House, I’ll be OK. in a few weeks.’
House always found it hard to look at Wilson when he was talking about something emotional, it made him feel too vulnerable, open and raw ‘If you die, I’m alone, I can’t live without you’ House said barely audible.
‘House’ Wilson reached out and took his hand ‘I love you’ House’s head snapped up.
Wilson would if it wasn’t a situation that House felt out of his depth in.
‘Seriously?’
Wilson smiled slotting their fingers together ‘Seriously’ Wilson lifted House’s hand placing a kiss on the back of it ‘I always have.’
