Klaus wasn't sure why Allison wasn't picking up the phone. He had called her exactly twenty-two times. Does she not have him saved in it? He doesn't blame her, none of them exactly had time to save each other's numbers with the saving the world thing. But one would think if a number kept calling you, you should maybe pick up the damn phone.
"Allison. Pick up the goddamn phone and come pick me up."
He shivers in the cold. He's on a bus bench in nothing but basketball shorts. The next bus wasn't for two hours and Klaus thinks he might frostbite if he stays out here for too long. He hadn't meant to be out this late, honestly. He was at a party where he had a couple drinks and then ended up in bed with some guy. He had to scramble to leave when the cops came busting into the house and he was still deep inside the dude.
Now, he just wanted to go home but Allison wasn't answering her goddam phone and she was the only one who kept it on her at all times!
He tries Viktor next. No answer.
"Hey, Vik. Uh, can you come pick me up? Just call me back."
Diego next. No answer.
"Yo, would you be a doll and come pick up at the bus station? The one where you had that knife fight with that pickpocketer a couple years back. I saw it on the news, pretty cool. Anyway, please come get me before my toes freeze off."
Luther. No answer.
"Luther, I'm kind of freezing my ass off here. Please come get me or have one of the others get me. Call me. Thanks."
He would call Five (because the teleporting dude is probably the best choice in this scenario) but he doesn't own a phone. Klaus should get him one.
He waits thirty minutes. He anxiously waits for a call and checks consistently for even a simple message.
Nothing.
He wishes Ben were here.
He's freezing and he can't stay out here anymore but the bus won't be here for an hour and a half. He can't walk because he's certain he'll fucking freeze to death if he stands out here any longer. All the stores around are closed, except one. A little quaint bookstore with a sign that says, 'Lori's Prized Books'. The only light around the building comes from inside and it's a faint orange hue.
They might kick him out for wearing little to no clothing or they might feel bad and let him warm up.
He decides to take the risk.
It's a nice bookstore, he doesn't really have much to compare it to but it's nice. Lots of books on the few shelves here. He strolls down the bookshelves and finds a counter. An elderly woman is bent over a book, very fitting. Her name tag reads Lori.
He clears his throat, "Hello?"
She startles and looks up, "Oh, hello. I must've not heard the door. Sorry, my hearing isn't what it used to be."
"It's..It's alright."
Her eyes widen, "Oh dear! Where are your clothes?"
He shrugs.
She shakes her head, "Let me get you a jacket. You stay there."
She goes into a door in the back and he awkwardly stands there until she comes back. She comes back with a bundle of clothing in her arms.
"Go sit," She points to an armchair, "I will warm you up."
"Um, okay."
She gives him a jacket first and then throws about six blankets on top of him.
She drags over a stool and then hops on, "So, why were you out freezing?"
"I was at a party and the cops came so…"
She looks delighted, "Ooh! I used to go to parties all the time. Do you not have any family to pick you up?"
He hesitated, "...I do. I called all of them but they didn't pick up…"
She gives him a sympathetic look, "Hopefully, they were just busy. I assume you were waiting for the bus?"
"Yeah. I was out there for like an hour before deciding I didn't want to freeze my ass off."
She giggles, "That would be a bad thing. Let's talk while we wait for your bus, hm?"
He nods. One of his siblings has to check their phone soon enough right?
–
He ended up taking the bus home. No one answered so Lori walked him out to the bus and then let him keep the jacket.
The lights in the academy were off. He tries to open the door only to find it locked. Seriously?
He bangs on the door. He doesn't care if he's waking them up, this wouldn't have happened if they came to get him.
The door swings open and he see a grouchy-faced Five. Don't tell anyone but Klaus secretly thinks he looks cute like that.
Five says, "I thought you were in bed?"
"Yeah, well I'm not. Let me in, please?"
Five moves out of the way and Klaus can see him taking in Klaus's odd attire.
"What the fuck happened to you?"
He sarcastically smiles, "Well, Fivey, I was stuck at the bus stop waiting for one of you to come pick me up but apparently no one in this family knows how to work a phone."
"It's like 20 degrees out."
"It is. I was freezing my ass off and the only store open was this bookstore. Owner was this little old lady who showed me more care than the fuckers that live here."
Five opens his mouth, closes it, then opens it again, "I'll get a phone."
Klaus pauses, "What?"
Five glares, "I'll get a phone. Call me next time. I don't sleep much anyway."
He nodded, "Alright."
"Now go to sleep."

(The next day at breakfast. Everyone minus Five is there.
Diego: Jeez, why do you look like that?
Klaus: Check your phone. I was up till two waiting for one of you to pick me up.
Allison: That's what the calls were for?
Luther: I thought you were just wasted and calling us for no reason.
Klaus: You didn't even bother answering to check?
Diego: Let's be real, you probably were high.
Klaus: I wasn't. You guys know I've been trying to get sober. I had two drinks last night and that's it.
Viktor: Sorry…I would've picked you up if I'd known.
Klaus: But you didn't because you just assumed. This family fucking sucks.
Klaus storms off. The others stare awkwardly at each other.)
