Chapter Text

Eberwolf lighly tapped Darius' shoulder to wake him up once.
Twice.
Thrice.

"I'm up, I'm up. Is everything alright?"

"Can't sleep. Light. In boy's room.

"You know him, he prefers night over daytime like you. It's not a school night, I have told him as long as he knows he won't be too tired and gets enough sleep, it's okay. Should I place some abomination matter in the cracks of your door to block out the light?"

"It's too late," Eberwolf replied. "Even I tired.

Darius chacked the clock on his nightstand, the numbers shining as soon as he stared at them.
4:28 A.M.

"Go to sleep, Eber. I'll take care of him."

He allowed Eber to jump off and stood up. A few steps later, he was already knocking on Hunter's door. As always, as softly as he could to avoid startling him.

"Hunter, darling? I understand you like the quiet of the night to work, but if you're still planning to go to your Derby practice later you need to get some sleep."

Rustling behind the door.
A second later, Hunter's head was peeking out of his door. His hair looked a little messy, yet somehow it wasn't the wildest Darius had seen it.

"Can I still go?" he asked, slightly confused.

"Of course you can. It's in the evening, if you go to sleep now you can wake up for lunch."

"Is that... okay?"

"I will tell Eber to do their morning zoomies in the yard instead of the roof so you don't hear any noise. They can get plenty of sun downstairs too." Darius assured. "By the way, what are you doing? I don't remember you mentioning any homework for the weekend."

Hunter's expression switched to nervousness.
"Uh, I... forgot to write it down. Willow reminded me earlier, we have until tomorrow -today's?- morning to send Professor Hermunculus a crow with our paper."

"I'm going to have a word with him during the next parent-teacher meeting. It's good to have more time to do your homework, but on a weekend?"

"Y... Yeah, he's not my favorite teacher for a reason I guess."

Darius chuckled lightly. He never expected his own kid to hold a grudge on the same teacher he had all those years ago, and yet, there he was.

"Now, now, get some sleep, Little Prince. You don't want to be sleepy on your -the- palisman," he quickly corrected himself,
He leaned in to hug Hunter as soon as the boy did, and planted a goodnight kiss on his forehead.

Before he turned around, he could catch a glimpse of Hunter's beaming smile.
