Work Text:
Langa was never really good with words.
Like ever. He sucked at them.
It was Reki who confessed first. Frankly, Langa was also going to confess that day but Reki beat him to it.
But this time around, Langa wanted it to be him.
It'd been ten years since they got together, Langa thinks that twenty-seven is a good enough age to propose.
He decided to ask Joe for advice on how to as he'd been married to Cherry for a good while.
"Cherry was the one who proposed you should ask him. He did it really elaborately though, so maybe don't." Joe had said, patting him on the back. "I'd say just do whatever feels right for ya."
Very helpful. Maybe doing something elaborate was a good idea…? Would Reki appreciate that?
Reki would actually appreciate anything Langa did for him, unless it was revealing his embarrassing secrets so Miya could tease him.
How did people usually propose in fiction? Usually it would involve getting down on one knee, if Langa remembered correctly.
Wait. He had an idea.
Skateboards for two people existed, right? Maybe he could get one for himself and Reki and propose while riding it.
That also sounded like a recipe for disaster. Involving skating seemed like a good idea, though.
So he got to work. Asking Joe, Cherry and Miya for help, Langa picked a day where no S events would be hosted.
And so, started his plan.
Skating was always exhilarating, even after all these years. He looked forward to using the thing that brought the two together as a way to propose.
His plan was set in motion as soon as Reki and him arrived at Crazy Rock. Joe, Cherry and Miya were already there with everything set up. It wasn't too elaborate. So not much actually needed to be set up.
It started simply, the two were skating like normal, it was great. It was always great skating with Reki. The feeling of wind blowing his hair in his face, the thrill, everything. And he was doing with his favorite person, Langa wouldn't have it any other way.
As they were further into the maze, Langa reached his hands out to Reki, no words were needed, his boyfriend took them, grinning. They'd done this before, it was always fun — skating holding hands? The best thing ever.
Langa pulled Reki closer to him, Reki looked behind him, deciding to ditch his skateboard and jump onto Langa's, rocking it slightly as he did so. (Maybe the two person skateboard was a good idea afterwards?)
Langa expected this.
What he didn't expect, was how lost he got in Reki's eyes in that moment. He'd done that before, even while skating. Sometimes, while skating with him, the only thing Langa could ever focus on was Reki. And he never messed up a trick. Not anytime recently, that is.
But now was different. Now, he was filled with anxieties. 'What if this went badly? What if Reki said no? What if he embarrassed himself? What if Reki left him?' Okay, Langa knew the last one was unreasonable considering they'd been together for ten years but you never knew!
"Uh— Langa, turn-!" He faintly heard Reki shout. Faintly because he was still lost in Reki's eyes, overthinking how this would go.
But he should've been paying attention because the two crashed into a wall, that got Langa out of his head. Yay!
The two fell off the skateboard, soft thuds sounding out as they hit the ground. Great. It was already ruined.
Rose petals rained from the sky at that moment. Langa sighed to himself, the other three were probably laughing so much right now, he went red at the thought.
"I'm so sorry—" he stammered out. Was he still blushing? "Are you okay?" He stood up, dusting off his pants and holding his hand out to Reki.
"I'm fine!" Reki took it, rubbing his head. "Haven't fallen in a while, so I guess it was… nice? That isn't the right way to put it— Are you okay? You seemed out of it."
"Will you marry me?" Langa blurted out as soon as Reki finished his sentence. Reki stared at him. A beat.
"What?" Okay, maybe Langa should play it off as him hitting his head too hard and—
"Will you marry me?" Stupid!
"You're serious?" Reki was going to break up with him, Reki was going to—
"Yes."
"Like, actually???" Why hadn't Reki broken up with him yet??"
"Yes."
"Holy shit… Yes, of course I will!" What? Langa didn't have the time to think about anything else because Reki kissed him on the lips right then and there.
"Ahem," Langa mentally cursed Miya for interrupting their make-out session. "Are you gonna make us watch this for the rest of the night?"
"Oh— sorry." Langa said after they pulled away.
"See?" Cherry said, "all your anxieties were for nothing."
"I didn't voice them to you…"
"It was written all over your face." Joe clapped him on the back, wiping a fake tear.
"Our little boy's a man, now, honey!" Reki patted Langa on his shoulder, his grin even wider.
Having just proposed to his now fiancé and standing in his favorite place with his favorite people—
"Now I get to call you my fiancé! This is great! Oh, y'know what? Miya should be our flower girl!"
"WHAT!?"
Langa couldn't be happier.
