“What’s that?”
Pearl blinks. “What’s what?”
“Round your neck. It’s okay if you don’t wanna tell me, I just -”
“No, it’s fine!” She fidgets with the pendant self-consciously. “I always had this ribbon. It’s from… the place I used to live.”
Scott nods. “Is that it?”
“Don’t make me say it.”
“Say what?”
“Don’t -”
“Genuinely!”
Pearl sighs, twists it so he can see. “Remember you gave me this?”
Scott’s eyes turn round when he recognises the amethyst, and rounder still when he realises what it means. “You didn’t -”
“I still need a spyglass. If you’ve got another spare.”
“Of course!”
