Show them that you love me, hold me in your arms...

Summary:

Five times the ghouls third-wheeled and one time they didn't.

Or

Frankie and Cleo are very public in their affection towards one another. Which is fine. Unless you're their friends and you have to deal with it every day...

Work Text:

1.

Clawdeen had agreed to meet with Cleo and Frankie after class so they could study for their upcoming hexam. With a pile of textbooks in her arms, she left her locker and walked to their favourite study spot. As she approached the table, however, she noticed that Frankie and Cleo were already sitting together and were very… close.

Cleo’s head was resting against Frankie’s shoulder whilst Frankie’s rested on top of hers. Their hands were interlocked and Cleo’s leg was wrapped around Frankie’s calf. Cleo’s arm was draped around Frankie’s back and the couple spoke in quiet whispers.

Clawdeen stood awkwardly at the other side of the table, unsure whether they had actually spotted her yet. She glanced briefly at them and sighed. They were far too caught up in themselves to notice her. So, she brought a hand to her mouth and coughed into it.

Both Cleo and Frankie turned to look up at her  but they didn’t move.

Frankie smiled and waved their hand. “Hey, Clawdeen. Glad you could make it!”

Clawdeen eyed them cautiously then sat down, placing her textbooks on the table.

“Hey… guys,” Clawdeen said awkwardly.

Cleo chuckled. “Ok then, what’s first on the agenda?”

The study session went on from there as normal. Well, minus the fact Cleo and Frankie were all over each other. Every now and then, Cleo would plant a sporadic kiss on Frankie’s cheek, or Frankie would press a kiss to Cleo’s forehead if she got a question right. It was… strange for Clawdeen to have to witness, but she let it slide. They were just in their honeymoon phase, it would pass over eventually, right?

2.

Draculaura had agreed to meet with Frankie and Cleo for a shopping spree at the Mall. They had agreed to meet outside of a cafe, so Draculaura waited. And waited. Until it was a whole ten minutes past one. She huffed and reached for her phone, ready to speed dial Frankie, when finally she heard a pair of giggles approaching. She snapped her eyes to the couple - who were 10 minutes later than they should have been, she sourly noted - and immediately clocked the sheepish expressions on their faces.

Both were blushing intensely and had their arms looped around each other lazily. Their lips were grinning widely as they whispered sweet nothings to each other. Watching them approach, Draculaura felt a shudder pass over her. Disgusting.

“I hope you two won’t be bundled up all day,” Draculaura called out to the couple.

Cleo and Frankie were broken from their stupor. They pulled apart from each other and shrugged, then Draculaura pushed all of her bags into Frankie’s hands and marched ahead, dragging Cleo with her. There would be no more PDA on her watch.

3.

Cleo and Lagoona were having a conversation at their lockers when Frankie turned the corner. Frankie grinned at the sight of Cleo and immediately made their way towards her.

Lagoona spotted Frankie across the hallway and interrupted Cleo mid-conversation with a nudge.

“Hey Cleo…” Lagoona drawled out playfully. “Guess who’s over there!”

Cleo’s head immediately turned to where Lagoona was pointing and her smile instantly widened. She tried to school her features to play it off in front of Lagoona, but she immediately caught on.

“I…” Cleo murmured, then looked away bashfully.

Lagoona patted her gently and giggled. “It’s fine, girl. They’re your partner. Show it all you want!”

Cleo looked at Lagoona and smiled warmly. “That’s…”

“Hey Cleo!” Frankie beamed.

Cleo smiled back and pulled Frankie in for a hug. They looked surprised momentarily, then they let out an easy sigh and melted into the hug. Lagoona smiled as she watched the two embrace but after a rather prolonged hug, she felt it strain slightly.

“Uh, guys?” She asked, with no response.

Lagoona stood awkwardly as the couple continued to embrace. If only Lagoona knew what she had created by encouraging them back then…

4.

Draculaura, Frankie and Clawdeen were having a trio sleepover the next time it happened. They were all sitting on Drac’s bed, Draculaura painting Clawdeen’s nails as she blabbered on about ancient spells cast by witches, when Frankie’s phone began to ring. Frankie tilted their head in confusion and cast an apologetic smile to the girls before picking up the call without even looking at the caller ID.

When they heard Cleo’s voice sound through their phone, their face immediately heated up.

“H-Hey Cleo,” they murmured awkwardly, causing Clawdeen and Drac’s ears to perk up. “Yeah, I’m fine… Yeah, yeah I miss you too.” An easy smile began to spread across their face as they spoke to Cleo more and more. After around five minutes, Frankie noticed the annoyed expressions on their friends’ faces and gulped. “Alright then, Cleo. I better get back to Clawdeen and Drac. No, you hang up. No! You hang up!” That went on for another five minutes until Cleo finally hung up on them.

Frankie turned to their friends slowly and offered a sheepish grin. Clawdeen and Draculaura held steady, blank gazes.

“Seriously gross, Franks,” Draculaura muttered, shaking her head. “At our slumber party? Seriously?”

Frankie giggled nervously and quickly slipped their phone back into their pocket. “Uh, sorry you guys…”

Clawdeen and Draculaura shared a knowing look of despair, before continuing the conversation they had been having before the call. The bright red blush remained on Frankie’s face for a good ten minutes afterwards.

5.

Cleo, Frankie, Lagoona, Draculaura and Clawdeen all decided to take a trip to the mall after a stressful week at school. The group had collectively noticed Cleo and Frankie becoming more and more publicly affectionate, and it was starting to freak them out. Today was the breaking point.

Cleo had her arm wrapped around Frankie’s waist, and Frankie giggled at every word the Mummy said. They snuggled close together. Whispered into each other’s ears. Shared longing glances despite being right next to each other!

“We need to do something!” Draculaura declared after pulling Lagoona and Clawdeen aside to join together in a huddle. “We cannot keep having this. These are supposed to be group meet-ups, not group third-wheeling sessions!”

The ghouls nodded in agreement and searched their heads for anything they could do to get some well-deserved ‘payback’ on the couple.

“Aha!” Lagoona squealed suddenly. Draculaura and Clawdeen’s attention turned to her. “I’ve got just the idea…”

6.

“You look radiant today, my love,” Frankie said to Cleo as they walked arm-in-arm into their common room.

“Why… thank you, sweetheart,” Cleo responded, planting a kiss on Frankie’s shoulder.

Frankie giggled and pushed the door open, completely unprepared for what was on the other side. Frankie and Cleo’s faces immediately dropped.

“Uhh,” was all Frankie could manage and Cleo’s mouth almost dropped to the floor.

Deuce and Clawdeen were sat cuddling together on the couch. Draculaura and Clawd were playing cards on the floor, lying on their sides and smiling fondly at each other. And Lagoona and Gill were stood up kissing by the doorway.

“Oh, hey you two,” Clawdeen said, a smug smile on her face. “Is everything okay?”

“This is… too… weird,” Frankie struggled. Cleo didn’t say anything but nodded her agreement. They both slowly turned around and left the room, leading to an uproar of laughter from the guys and ghouls.

Safe to say, their public displays of affection became a whole lot tamer after that situation…

Notes:

Sorry this might be a little rushed, especially at the end. I was getting so sick of this fic so I quickly finished it off so I could get it out of my drafts. Apologies!

also whether those couples at the end are actually together or not is up to the reader's interpretation. I personally like to think the guys were just playing along to help the ghouls in their pay-back, but if you ship them then that's perfectly cool too!
