Work Text:

Danny sat inside his local café, watching the rain platter against the windows, hearing the soft churning of the sky, and seeing cars with blaring lights move past. The world seemed dull and weightless, uninteresting and simply lifeless.

He felt small tears run down his face, and he swiped his arms against his cheeks numerous times to stop the incoming pouring of tears. Alas, nothing worked, and he sobbed in the middle of the café, his head resting in the palm of his hands.

Ranpo earlier that day had demanded for a divorce, throwing his wedding ring out of the window and storming out to go to work. Danny's heart broke into a million pieces, with no glue to mend it back together. The red shards lay scattered across his mind, resembling what used to be Ranpo's love for him.

He felt his mind spin as he tried to regulate his emotions, his hands shaking and his teeth gritting. His eyes were like waterfalls, trying to clean away the dirt of guilt that Danny had for their marriage. In a moment of delirium, Danny removed his hands from his face and quickly removed his ring from his 4th finger, the ring landing with a loud thud on the table. The ring was encrusted with emeralds, to reflect the shine of Ranpo's gorgeous green eyes. Even the ring was a massive reminder of his soon to be ex-husband.

The ring had very little weight in reality, but in Danny's mind, it was the centre of the universe. Even if it was on the small café table, it felt dense and horrifically heavy. His chest began to ache, his mouth snapping open and shut. He was drenched in sweat, and experiencing bad shakes. God, when did he become this pathetic?

He sipped some of his coffee, trying to ease the ache in his chest. This proved ineffective, as he still felt horrendous. A waitress in the corner of his eye walked up to him, looking at him with an expression of sympathy.

"Are you okay, sir?" The waitress politely asked, clearly worried about the middle aged man who's had some what of a mid life crisis in this café for the past 2 and a half hours.

"Y-yes.. I'm fine..." Danny croaked, his voice rasp from shouting and crying. The waitress frowned, but nodded out of sympathy once again, and walked to another table to resume her job.

Danny sat there in silence, the seat too light yet too grounding. He was a mess, his hair unkempt, his face frowning and gaining wrinkles. He misses the time from when he was young, when him and Ranpo had first gotten married and he looked so ethereal. He'd spend all night long with Ranpo, looking at funny memes or laughing about Poe on their honeymoon vacation, now Ranpo doesn't even engage in eye contact with him.

As he interlocked his fingers together and leaned forward into a thinking position, the door to the café swung open and revealed... Ranpo. Ranpo quickly ran up to Danny's table, holding a giant bouquet of flowers and tears streaming down his own face. He collapsed to his knees, and began speaking:

"Danny, I don't want to divorce you! I was wrong! Please forgive me! I love you!" Ranpo begged, wailing and looking miserable himself. Danny perked up mentally, and smiled softly at Ranpo.

"I forgive you."
