Work Text:

“Are you sure you are okay with this, Midoriya?”

Midoriya, decked out in his hero outfit, gazed at the nightly scenery from the top of a 10-story building. He held his Endeavor agency-provided phone close to his ear as his fellow work-study companions spoke to him.

“Endeavor wanted us to split up to search for the villain, didn’t he? I’ll be fine; besides, they can track our every move, so you’ll know where I am.” He replied.

“Alright, just let us know if you see anything, alright? We’ll go ahead and make our way to our assigned areas.” Todoroki’s voice added.

“You better not be an idiot out there, Deku! Or I’ll kill you myself!” Midoriya heard Bakugo’s voice shout from the background.

Midoriya chuckled, “Don’t worry, Kacchan. I won’t. Sounds good, I’ll see you all in a bit.”

Then the line went silent. He placed the phone back in his utility belt, making sure it was securely stored away.

He looked ahead, surveying the city one more time in contemplation. This was the first time they were ordered to split up to cover more ground, a means to capture their culprit who has been a true nuisance to apprehend. This villain that they were after has a camouflage quirk. This individual is able to blend into their surroundings making him a difficult target to pinpoint.

He was nervous. Alone he couldn’t rely on others to make the necessary calls. He had to trust his judgment and act appropriately based on the situation. But this is what a hero does…there may be moments where he’ll be working alone.

So, with that in mind, he took a deep breath and let blackwhip activate. And, without a moment to waste, he jumped off the building. But before he could meet his demise, he stuck one of his whips onto a nearby building, moving his momentum from a free-fall to a direct forward motion. He glided through the city, the cool air of the calm night blowing across his face. He was still getting used to his new quirk, but so far it has been working in his favor.

Okay, so based on his last sightings, he seems to hang out in vegetative regions. So, the forest it is. Midoriya thought as he detached a whip and attached a new one, each move working congruently to maintain his momentum.

However, before he could reach the forest on the outskirts of the city. He felt himself stagger, he looked up and noticed that he failed to attach the next whip. It missed the upcoming building by only an inch.

“Crap!” Midoriya tried to compensate by releasing the other whip from its hold and hooking it to the next sturdy location. But it simply made his situation worse.

The other whip failed to attach.

With no mode of sustaining himself, he went airborne and then began to fall, straight into a narrow alleyway. His back landed harshly onto the concert causing him to gasp. Then, due to the force, his head snapped back, hitting the floor violently. The world immediately blackened.

Midoriya’s eyes slowly opened as consciousness returned to him. He was lying on his back, eyes staring at the blurry night sky which was partially covered by the two large buildings on his sides.

“W-where am I?” He wondered; his thinking strangely sluggish.

His vision cleared up ever so slightly allowing him to see, with clarity, where he was. From what he could discern, he was in an alleyway, a dark and desolate one.

But how did I get here? What happened?

Suddenly, he felt something wet under his head. He brought a shaky hand to the back of his head to feel for what may be causing the sensation. It hasn’t rained, right? So, what could it be?

He touched the warm substance and brought his gloved hand to his line of vision. It’s red. Blood it seemed. Realization then hit him.

“Oh.” He uttered. Did this happen while on patrol? Seeing how he’s wearing his hero outfit, that is likely.

Midoriya tried to sit but a stabbing and throbbing pain radiated through his head and a powerful wave of nausea washed over. A low groan escaped his mouth as the symptoms continued to amplify. Quickly, he doubled over and fell back to the ground.

“T-that—h’rts.” His voice slurred as he tightened himself into a fetal position.

In addition to his pain, he felt “off”. He felt sluggish, hazy, and foggy as if a cloud was wrapped around his mind, preventing any form of thinking. He could barely make a coherent sentence or even a thought. He also felt strangely confused. He couldn’t remember what happened or what he was even doing before he ended up in this alleyway.

“N’eed—hel’.” He mumbled. Even through his delirium, he had to let someone know about his predicament. If he were patrolling, then it must have been during his work-study, seeing how cold it was. So that would mean Bakugo and Todoroki were nearby. He searched for his phone, slowly fiddling through every pocket in his utility belt.

Midoriya’s eyes slowly blinked, his exhaustion increasing. His body felt as if it was maneuvering through molasses, he tried to feel for the rectangular device, but each movement was extraordinarily laborious. Eventually, he felt it and as quickly as he could, he pulled it out of his belt pocket.

He held the device in his bloodied hands. Slowly, he unlocked the screen, immediately squinting as the white light shined brightly. Midoriya wanted to close his eyes, the light hurt. The illumination sent an intense pressure-like pain between his eyes which traveled through his head. But knowing what he had to do, he kept his eyes open.

The screen was very blurry and distorted against his sensitive eyes. But he had to get someone on the phone, even if it were Endeavor. So, blindly, he selected a contact and pressed call, unsure who he was bothering. He let his head rest on the cold concrete as he used his tired arm to hold the phone close to his ear.

“Deku?”

“K’chan? Y’o th’re?”

“Shit…what the hell—are you okay?” He sounded urgent.

“H’elp…hed’ hurts.”

“Dammit! Deku! What did I tell you about not being an idiot!” His voice blared through the phone causing Midoriya to slightly lift the phone away from his ear.

“S’rry.”

“Okay, I have your dam location. I am coming, be there very soon. I’ve also pinged Icy Hot. Don’t you dare pass out on me, okay?!”

Midoriya nodded as the line cut off. He let his hand relax, the phone cluttering to the floor.

He was so tired. He continued to lay in a fetal position, giving him some comfort from the dizziness and overstimulation of the lights and sounds around him. He wanted more than anything to sleep. But Bakugo urged him to stay awake. It was probably for the best though, he was in a very vulnerable state to pass out right now.

He’ll be here soon, and once he’s here, he’ll be able to rest. But it wouldn’t hurt to close his eyes, maybe if it was just for a little bit…

“There you are!”

Midoriya’s eyes snapped open after hearing the gruff voice of his childhood friend who was using his explosions to quickly reach him.

“Over here, Icy Hot!”

Todoroki was right behind him, using his ice to glide.

They were so loud. The explosions and the crystallization of the ice sounded like bombs to his sensitive ears.

Without a moment to waste, the two rushed to their side.

“Dammit, Deku. What the hell happened here?” Bakugo exclaimed as kneeled beside him.

Wait, what was happening? Midoriya wondered.

“Don’t k’ow.” He slurred.

Gentle hands grabbed him, “Of course you don’t, well, does anything hurt?” Bakugo asked.

“M’ h’ed.” Midoriya uttered.

“Your head?”

Midoriya nodded.

“And your back? Does it hurt?” Bakugo asked, trying to capsulate all the injuries Midoriya may have.

“No…” He whispered.

“Okay,” Bakugo said. Knowing that his spine was, for the most part, okay, he and Todoroki guided him into a seated position. The movement further increased the vertigo that wouldn’t subside.

Bakugo glanced at the puddle of blood where his head lay. He then glanced at Midoriya; half of his green hair was now caked in the crimson substance.

“Bakugo, I think Midoriya suffered a concussion…and a bad one from the looks of it.” Todoroki voiced, holding Midoriya’s back as he swayed gently.

“Yeah, I can see that.” He moved in front of Midoriya and stared at his eyes, “Blown out pupils, can’t remember shit, delirious as hell, and a bloody mess, yup, that’s indeed a concussion.”

“S’eep? Pl’ase.” He whispered, blinking slowly.

“Sorry, Midoriya, you need to stay awake,” Todoroki replied calmly as he scooted Midoriya to lay against the wall of the building. Once situated, Midoriya let his head loll, “At least until help arrives, okay. Hey, Bakugo.”

The teenager jerked to look at Todoroki, who was pressing his phone screen with urgency, “I’m going to call for an ambulance, I’ve just texted my dad about Midoriya. Stay with him, while I flag them down.”

“Tsk! Like hell I’ll leave to let his ass die here.”

Todoroki grinned as he ran off to the alleyway’s entrance.

Despite being obscured, Bakugo’s concern was evident. He wanted to take him to the nearest hospital himself. But, moving him while in this state was risky. So, it was best they waited for the professionals, they would know how to care for Midoriya without worsening his injury.

“K’chan.” A low groan escaped Midoriya’s mouth.

“Wow!” Bakugo quickly grabbed him as he began to slump forward.

“H’rts…my he’d.” Midoriya whispered.

“Yeah. You really did a number on yourself. You dam idiot.” Bakugo replied. He lay Midoriya against the wall again, but this time he sat next to him to ensure he didn’t fall again.

Midoriya smiled weakly, “Bad…huh?”

“What? Your head.” Bakugo turned to look at him. Midoriya’s glazed eyes simply gazed at the wall ahead, “Tsk! You are pretty f’ed up right now. You can’t even speak right.”

Midoriya slumped once more, this time lying on Bakugo’s shoulder.

“Huh! Dammit Deku get—”

“S’rry. T’red.” Midoriya groaned.

Bakugo swallowed his pride; he couldn’t get mad. After all, he was not in the correct state of mind. But hell, once he was back to his normal self, he will make sure to beat his ass for irritating him like this.

“Ugh! Whatever. Just don’t even think about passing out, okay!” Bakugo barked, sternly.

“M’kay.”

They both sat there for about 5 more minutes. Bakugo, wanting to ensure that Midoriya remained awake, asked him a few questions. Some were meant to test his mental and memory state which he, unsurprising, failed or performed poorly. Then, after what felt like forever, sirens were heard. The medics were here. The team of about three paramedics including Endeavor and Todoroki sprinted toward the injured young hero.

They gently took Midoriya, placed him in a gurney, and wheeled him off to the ambulance.

“He seemed comfortable with you.” Todoroki began.

“Shut it Icy Hot! One word about this and I’ll blast your face out of existence!” Bakugo shouted, his quirk emanating.

Todoroki chuckled, “I won’t say a word. Come on, we should go.”

“Don’t tell me what to do.”

The two left the scene and followed Endeavor closely, the three heading toward the ambulance’s destination. Each hoping that Midoriya will be okay and recover from this incident.

Notes:

Thank you for reading today's fic! I mean, when you glide like Spiderman, there are bound to be mistakes and therefore consequences. But knowing Izuku, I'm sure he'll pull through from this :)
