“Trey, are you absolutely sure this is what you want for your birthday?”
Sitting still in his seat at the table, Jade was fighting to keep the smile on his face, clenching his fists in his lap. They were in the Heartslabyul kitchen as always, Trey working on a cake on the other side of the room as Jade watched, lips tightly pressed together.
Trey’s birthday was something Jade had been looking forward to for a while now, not only because it was a special day for Trey, but because it was a day where Trey could get away with nearly anything. Whatever the birthday boy wished for, he would get, as long as it was within reasonable limits. The fact that it was Trey who could wish for whatever he wanted only exhilarated Jade further, small shivers running along his spine as he thought of what Trey could possibly ask for.
Perhaps it would have something to do with Trey’s fascination with teeth? Or perhaps it would have something to do with baking? Or perhaps it was something else, something Jade didn’t have the foresight for…
Whatever the case, Trey’s birthday was the perfect opportunity for Jade. To spend time with Trey and see something quite interesting play out? Jade would most certainly enjoy this.
Except… he wasn’t enjoying it.
Not when Trey’s wish was for the mer to sit completely still, not interfering, not messing around, and not bothering Trey.
Clearly, things weren’t nearly as exciting as Jade thought they’d be.
Jade sighed loudly, resisting the urge to let a pout rise on his face as he rested his gloved hands against the table and idly observed Trey from afar. It wasn’t that he didn’t enjoy seeing Trey like this. No, it was quite the opposite actually, and Jade couldn’t help but follow Trey’s moving figure, that fresh seaweed green hair of his, those amber eyes concealed by his thick black glasses, and even the heave of his chest as he breathed in and out. Rather, it was the fact that Trey seemed to have the wrong idea in his head, the idea that Jade wished to make more trouble for him, wished to cause more messes for him. And such a boring birthday wish too…
“You seem a bit down, Jade. What’s bothering you?”
Jade blinked, Trey’s calm voice pulling him out of his thoughts. He put on a faux smile, resting his hand on his chest. “My apologies for worrying you, Trey. Rest assured, there is absolutely nothing bothering me. You may continue as usual.”
Trey raised an eyebrow. “You sure?”
“Perfectly so.”
“Well then, if you really are fine sitting there and watching me, I guess there’s no point in asking you to get up and help me.”
The corner of Jade’s eye twitched and he immediately stood up, shaking his head profusely. “No, no, Trey. If you require my assistance, I would be more than happy to help.”
“Hmm…” Trey smirked, holding a spatula of batter in his hand, glancing at Jade with a teasing gleam in his eyes. “Well, I don’t require your assistance. Just thought it would be boring for you to sit there like that. Although I was the one that told you to sit still.”
It was boring. So incredibly boring. But Jade didn’t bother voicing his thoughts, merely shaking his head politely. “Well, since it was your request, and it’s your birthday, I thought it’d be a shame to deny you of your wishes. After all, isn’t it natural for the birthday boy to receive whatever he so desires?”
“I guess. But well, it wasn’t really an actual wish.”
Jade paused. “Pardon?”
Trey set down the spatula, walking over to where Jade was. A vanilla scent entered Jade’s nose as the baker sat down, leaning against the counter, his signature smirk still plastered to his face.
“You’re always trying to push my buttons, Jade, to see how I react and what I say, aren’t you?” Trey’s golden eyes glowed vibrantly, mischief lingering in his expression. “Well, I say to hell with that. Now it’s my turn to do that to you. It’s my turn to see what you say, how you react.”
At the last part, Trey leaned over toward Jade, pressing his finger right into the center of Jade’s chest as if in provocation, the same thing Jade had done many times to Trey. The light chuckle that escaped the third-year afterward only heightened Jade’s racing heart rate, causing him to turn away, trying to avoid Trey’s eyes, trying to avoid Trey’s charming smile that always managed to make Jade feel so helplessly out of control, like a fish out of water.
But instead of allowing him to escape, Trey caught him, trailing a finger over Jade’s cheek and down to his chin, rotating him to face Trey once more, the same way Jade always did when Trey got flustered, the same way Jade did to get a reaction from Trey.
“Caught you, didn’t I?” Trey teased.
Jade couldn’t help but blush at that, a small chuckle coming out of him as he averted his eyes, mild amusement in his expression. “Indeed you did.”
From the start, he’d been curious about what Trey was planning. Surely someone as interesting as him wouldn’t have actually wished for a wish so absolutely un interesting, especially when it involved keeping Jade trapped, confined to sitting still when he could be doing so much more.
But now…
Now, in addition to Trey doing whatever he wanted, Jade could also do whatever he wanted.
Trey let his hand fall from Jade’s cheek, the motion bringing Jade out of his thoughts. “You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?”
Jade grinned, his sharp teeth sparkling. “Aren’t you enjoying it as well?”
Trey blinked, then laughed, pulling away from Jade. “You’re right. I am enjoying this.”
“How cruel. Enjoying me suffering from you.”
“Isn’t that what you do every day, Jade?”
“I assure you, that isn’t the case.”
Trey scoffed. “Yeah right. Tell that to Azul and Floyd. They know what you are, Jade, and so do I.”
Jade wiped a fake tear from his eye. “How terrible. Whatever can I do to get you to believe me?”
“Nothing. I’m never going to believe you. But like I said, it’s my turn now.” Trey pulled on Jade’s tie, raising an eyebrow and breathing heavily, bringing the eel’s lips closer to him. “And I believe you’ll enjoy this just as much as I will. Won’t you, Jade?”
Jade sighed, another blush blooming on his face, his smile wider than ever. “I will, Trey. I will.”
And as Trey pulled him closer, leaning in to steal a searing kiss from Jade’s lips, Jade closed his eyes savoring the soft feeling of Trey’s tongue invading his mouth, dragging over every tooth he had. The corner of Jade’s mouth perked up at the feeling, so unnaturally different from any other sensation, yet so addictive, leaving Jade to want more and more each time Trey pressed deeper. They pulled away, both of them panting for breath.
Jade smirked with rosy cheeks. “Paying extra attention to my teeth, now, are we?”
Trey rolled his eyes, shutting Jade up with another kiss. “You already know how I am. Your teeth are perfect, you know. Makes for the best birthday kisses. I really am lucky to have you as my boyfriend.”
“Mm…” Jade nibbled lightly on Trey’s swollen lips, staring greedily at the junior. “Indeed you are. I’ll give you the best birthday ever, Trey.”
Trey grinned. “Happy birthday to me then.”
“Happy birthday, Trey~”
