Washington puts one hand over Alexander’s to stay his fidgeting; uses the other to cup the boy’s face and guide it up to his own.
He studies the intoxicating mix of hesitation, uncertainty, want, fear in Alexander’s face – and then leans down to take his lips in a searching kiss that might be sweeter than any they’ve shared in weeks. “Had I known,” he murmurs into the boy’s ear as he pulls away, “that Friday was to be our last night together, perhaps I might have been nicer to you.”
