"You know, this is extremely unnecessary."
"So you've said."
"Then why are we still doing it?"
Springtrap sighs miserably, dragging his fingertips behind him across the wall as he walks. The hallway is long (12 feet) and the journey is treacherous (his back hurts), and all he wants to do is go back to bed.
"Shut up." William responds simply. Springtrap sighs but continues to trudge down the hallway nonetheless.
Springtrap shuts his eyes in an attempt to keep the sleep dormant in his mind. He meets the end of the hallway and stretches briefly against the door frame before pushing the door open to the kitchen as quiet as he could so as to not disturb anybody else who may be still asleep. A metal foot steps onto the cold, signature black and white tile.
The 'mission', as William called it, was to try and get up earlier than Fredbear to surprise him with a cup of coffee. Springtrap was hesitant, as they had only started dating very recently and didn't want to rush into these little gestures, but William insisted.
"You know, it almost seems as if you like my boyfriend more than me." Springtrap says audibly. Although he easily could have done so within their shared mind, it always felt nicer for him to do so aloud.
William only scoffs.
Springtrap smiles softly to himself. He knows the relationship between both of them and Fredbear was more complicated than just that, but he likes to joke anyway.
Springtrap walks around the marble island and reaches up to open the cabinet closest to the fridge to sift through all the different cups. He was hoping to find the one Fredbear usually used for his coffee, since it seems appropriate, but it wasn't there. He pauses in thought, if Fredbear didn't still have it from yesterday then somebody else must've taken it.
It doesn't matter, he shrugs it off, although there's a little twinge of disappointment knowing it won't be exactly the same. He pulls a regular white mug down from one of the shelves and sets it down onto the counter in front of him with a small 'clink'.
"Good morning, Springtrap!" A cherry voice rang through the kitchen, interrupting the comfortable silence. The sound quickly sent a wave of ache to his head, but it mostly dissipated once he saw who was speaking.
"Morning, Chica."
Chica walks around Springtrap to get inside the fridge, shuffling around for what he could only assume to be some leftover pizza. He didn't look, but he knew his assumptions were correct when he heard the cardboard scrape against the bottom of the fridge when Chica pulled it out and threw it on the island behind him.
Springtrap grabs the coffee beans next to the pot and is about to dump it into the top of the coffee machine before William forces him out of control and stops him from moving further.
"Don't forget the filter." William reminds him before settling back out of control.
Springtrap hums thankfully, setting the coffee beans back down to the left of the pot. He always forgot that part. He used his other hand to obtain a filter from the packaged sleeve to the right and slipped it into the top of the machine before grabbing the beans and trying again, this time without fail. He silently wonders to himself about investing in a reusable filter, which William then counters by saying it's dumb.
"Did you say something?" Chica asks, mouth full of pizza.
"Nothing." Springtrap replied, shaking his head and hitting the buttons to get the coffee going. Everybody had already known William and Springtrap shared a body and talked to each other back and forth, but it was always Chica that forgot more often than not. Or maybe she just didn't care to listen when it was said.. Either way she was always confused. The machine crackles quietly as it begins to brew.
Chica hums in response and Springtrap turns to face her without anything else to do, but is immediately met with the jarring display of Chica scarfing down what seems to already be her 5th slice of cold pizza straight from the box. He doesn't even try to hide his disgusted grimace.
"Gross.." William mutters, and is suddenly glad he wasn't the one controlling otherwise he'd had said it out loud.
Springtrap makes a 'pshh..' sound between his teeth in reply, crossing his arms over his chest and leaning his back against the counter. He blinks away from Chica's horrific, not to mention loud, gluttony, and instead lets his eyes flicker around the kitchen for anything interesting. As he browses past the sink and dirty dishes around the counters, his mind wanders back to the fact that Chica never remembered William existed, even when he was present. He contemplates if she's stupid, or maybe she thinks he's crazy but is too polite to say anything about it. William is sure it's the latter.
His gaze eventually lands on the dark display of the pantry a couple feet away, noticing some movement within.
He squints slightly to try and make out the strange shape just past the doorway, but his eyes fail him. He taps his upper arm with his fingers, pondering whether or not to check it out before deciding to push himself off the counter to investigate. It's not like he had anything better to do anyway.
His feet clack against the tile as he walks, pausing just in front of the doorway and leaning a hand on the frame, finding the shape he saw previously had disappeared. He leans in further to reach his hand in and flips the light on, abruptly being met face to face with Withered Bonnie.
Springtrap immediately staggers back with wide eyes; a curse under his breath as he seizes his hand to his chest before quickly dropping it back to his side to play it cool.
Withered Bonnie seems to be laughing by the way their shoulders bounce, but the uneven pitch coming out sounds like creaking gears and the noise grinds horribly against Springtrap's nonexistent brain.
Springtrap rolls his eyes at their laughing, but steps out of the way so they can exit the pantry. Withered Bonnie pushes through the door and stomps out of the kitchen with a bag of chips.
"Scared the fuck out of me." William admits.
"No kidding." Springtrap then takes one last look inside the pantry before turning the light back off and heading back to listen to the coffee brew.
Chica must've left while he was busy shitting himself from the sudden scare, as she was nowhere to be seen. The empty pizza box dumped lazily next to the trash can confirmed this. He grumbles and moves reluctantly to pick the box up and shove it into the recycling bin.
"It seems the extra millisecond of effort to put it where it belongs is just too much." William scowls sarcastically.
"Drives me insane.." Springtrap agrees, standing back up and dusting his hands off.
"What does?"
Springtrap turns to see Ballora, who's making her everyday morning trip in the kitchen. He realizes this means it's probably about 7am, giving him about an hour or so before Fredbear wakes up.
"People just throwing their trash around with no regard for where it belongs." Springtrap scoffs, throwing his arm out to gesture toward the trash and recycling bins.
"They're separated for a reason." He continues, crossing his arms.
Ballora rolls past Springtrap with the built in wheels in her shoes, chuckling and patting him on the shoulder before making her way to the pantry he just came from. He follows her just because he's not quite done ranting about the garbage yet.
Ballora listens to him yell about the different trash and nods every once in a while to let him know she was listening even though she wasn't. She picks up two containers of cookies and contemplates to herself which one she wants before opting for the peanut butter ones.
"We even have a separate one for paper trash and nobody uses it! What's the point of having 3 different trash cans when nobody is going to use them?!" He groans in frustration, pinching the bridge of his nose before continuing to ramble even further.
He found Ballora extremely easy to talk to, her being one of his closest friends since they first joined the Pizzeria. Ballora loved him just as much, don't get her wrong, he was just very.. 'passionate'.. At times. About the weirdest things. This time being trash, which was actually no surprise to her given Springtrap was often very cleanly oriented despite what most would think.
"One time, I saw Toy Freddy chuck a can from across the kitchen, he was trying to make it into the trash can, which is not even where it belongs by the way.." He sidetracks, voice fuming as he waves his hands around. "-and you'll never guess where it landed."
"Where?" Ballora asks absentmindedly, not actually paying attention as she stands back up and turns the light off. She gently pushes her way past Springtrap out of the pantry and back into the main area of the kitchen where she pops the fridge open and peers inside. Springtrap follows.
"ON THE GROUND!!!" He yells, his arms flying above his head and then hands slapping down onto his face to loudly groan into them.
She smiles, clearly amused. She pulls out a jug of milk and sets it on the counter before reaching up to grab a cup from the cabinet.
"That's insane." She says flatly, closing the fridge. Her tone doesn't match her words, but Springtrap doesn't seem to care.
"I KNOW!" He screams, dropping his hands from his face and pacing around the kitchen.
"He didn't even pick it up either." William adds.
"UGH and that too! He just left!" Springtrap's voice continues to remain enraged as he throws an arm out in disbelief before returning it to cross his arms and lean against the counter across from her. He sighs deeply and mutters to himself, probably something else about trash.
Ballora's smile widens as she pours herself a cup of milk.
"I never knew you were so passionate about trash cans." Springtrap can practically hear the grin in her voice even as she's turned away.
"WH- I'm not- I'm not passionate about trash cans!" He argues, pressing his back further into the counter.
She turns to face him and mimics his display against the opposite counter. She dips a cookie in her cup of milk and takes a bite.
"I'm just very irritated by the public's ignorance of the correct ways to dispose of their S-H-I-T." He states, matter of factly.
"Did you just spell that out?" Her amusement is through the roof and her mouth curls into an even larger grin.
He ignores her question, eyes gearing toward the coffee pot behind her as it beeped suddenly, indicating it was finished brewing. He steps over next to her to turn the machine off and reaches for the cup he'd left on the counter earlier.
"Since when do you drink coffee?" She asks, dipping another cookie in her milk.
His movement slows and he grips the cup a little tighter, eyes flickering around the area to find an excuse.
"I.. was just uh,, wanting to try this new flavor." He spits out, roughly poking the bag of coffee beans before picking up the coffee pot and pouring a decent amount into the cup. He watches the dark liquid swirl in the cup as it fills, enjoying the scent of it.
She gives him the look, the one that tells him he can't lie to her, and he immediately sighs.
"It's for Fredbear." He admits defeatedly.
She hums with interest. She appreciated the truth coming so quickly. She assumed she'd have to pester him for hours, as he was usually so stubborn, but she supposed his weakness for the bear forced him to cough it up quicker than either of them had expected.
She gives him a soft smile.
"That's so nice of you."
"It was William's idea. I personally thought it might be kinda early for these cheesy little gestures." He says, sliding the pot back into its stand and lazily sloshing around the liquid inside the cup.
She scoffs a laugh. "Glad at least one of you has some balls."
"Hey!" His head shoots up from the cup and he corrects his posture to seem taller.
Ballora only laughs, and he can hear William giggling in the back of his head.
He rolls his eyes and pushes past her to open the fridge, mumbling something about being 'sick and tired of the slander'.
He retrieves the coffee creamer and shuts the fridge with his leg, returning to the counter and opening the drawer just under it to sift through the measuring spoons. He pulls out a tablespoon with a small 'ah-ha' and begins to pour the creamer into it.
"What on earth are you doing?" Ballora interrogates, tone high as if he was insane.
"I want it to be exact." He answers simply, turning the spoon over to dump the contents into the cup and watches the color turn a slightly lighter shade of brown.
She shakes her head in disbelief, turning her attention back to her snack.
Springtrap pours one more tablespoon in before setting it on the counter. He shuts the cap to the creamer container and returns it to the fridge before wandering over to the other side of the kitchen to pull a large bag of sugar down from another cabinet. On the way back, he rips off a paper towel from the roll before setting it back where it belongs.
Foxy enters the kitchen, rather loudly at that, immediately making his presence known with the hum of some shanty.
"Morning lads!" He greets, just as loudly as he entered.
The change of volume catches the other two off guard, causing Ballora to drop her cookie in her milk. She gasps at the loss and huffs, she would rather die than try to scoop the cookie out though, so she just leaves it at the bottom of her cup and grabs a new cookie.
"Morning." Springtrap murmurs, still rather displeased by the intrusion.
Foxy stomps his way over to the sink and stabs into the entire paper towel roll with his hook.
"What are you land-lovers up to?"
Before Springtrap can reply, Ballora beats him to it.
"Springtrap's making coffee for his boooyfrieeennnddd." Ballora answers in a sing-song tone, which Foxy immediately joins in on with teasing little 'oooo~!'s.
Springtrap furrows his brow and mumbles incoherently under his breath to avoid appearing flustered, but his shoulders visibly tensed in embarrassment. He tries his best to ignore the gossiping Foxy and Ballora are doing in the background, the quiet giggling causing him to scowl.
Setting the bag of sugar on the stovetop, Springtrap uses the paper towel he grabbed earlier to dry the tablespoon off and then uses it to clumsily fish out a scoop of sugar and dump it into the coffee.
He hums in success, mentally patting himself on the back in accomplishment.
Foxy leaves as quickly as he came, taking the entire roll of paper towels with him.
Springtrap sighs in relief, his muscles relaxing ever so slightly.
Springtrap tosses the tablespoon in the sink and opens the dishwasher to find the specific spoon Fredbear would use each morning to stir his coffee. It really didn't matter which spoon he used, he could use a fork for all anybody cared, but something inside him felt he needed to use the 'right' spoon or it wouldn't be 'correct'.
He reaches inside and pulls out the spoon he'd been looking for; silver with a plastic purple handle. The paint on the handle had begun to chip away over the years of use, but it still looked good.
He closes the dishwasher and saunters back over to the cup to give it a nice stir, watching almost hypnotically as the coffee swirled around the spoon. He hopes Fredbear likes it, he can't think of any reason why he wouldn't. He did it exactly the same why he did and even mixed it with the same spoon! He would like it, he reassures himself. Even if for some reason he didn't, Fredbear would never make it known to him. He was always polite like that, not wanting to hurt anybody's feelings when a nice gesture was placed on him.
Springtrap sighs softly as he continues to stir the drink, not realizing he was smiling until he caught Ballora giving him an amused look out of his peripheral vision. His face quickly drops and he furrows his brows to hide his embarrassment.
Ballora laughs quietly and nudges him with her elbow, picking up the rest of the cookies in the container.
"I'll leave you to your own devices, lover boy. See you around."
She pushes herself off the counter to leave, wheels whirring quietly as she does so.
Springtrap huffs in reply, but there's no real malice. The door shuts behind Ballora and he feels his tense shoulders relax completely. Finally alone, he's free to daydream all he wants in peace.
"She called you 'lover boy'." William teases.
It seems he spoke too soon.
Springtrap scoffs, taking the spoon out of the cup and tapping it gently on the side of the mug to get the remaining drops off.
"She called us 'lover boy'. And you're the one who thought of doing this in the first place! I don't know why I didn't just make you do it." He complains. He brings the mug to his face to sniff, he loved the way it smelled, it was a cruel joke by the devil himself to make it taste so bad in comparison.
"If I had done it, it wouldn't be as special."
Springtrap only rolls his eyes at the lame excuse. He does that a lot, he realizes.
He throws Fredbear's spoon in the sink and looks at the clock on the microwave.
7:52, it read. Perfect.
"Should we wait until he wakes up or should we bring it to him now?" Springtrap asks, tapping his fingertips rhythmically on the edge of the countertop.
"We should bring it to him now, kind of like breakfast in bed but not at all."
He hums, he supposed that made sense. He takes hold of the mugs handle in one hand, and the other on the bottom, holding it with a strange sense of caution as he moved.
He slowly makes his way out of the kitchen and back into the hallway, the door creaking with use. He treads down the corridor and turns left into the main area with the stage where most folks tend to hang out. There were a lot less than usual due to it being so early, but there were enough to leave him stumbling through the area with his hands clutched protectively over the mug, almost tripping over two different Balloon Boys.
He makes it through in one piece, sighing to himself as he continues to walk. He was originally going to go around the party room to get there with a little less interaction like he usually does, but he remembered going through the party room would actually get him to Fredbear's area quicker. He contemplates for a second before his legs move for him, and he gently opens the curtain to the party room in an attempt to shortcut.
When he opens the curtain, he sees The Puppet is leaning out of their box and chatting with Baby about something he didn't care to decipher. They both turn to face him.
"Hii!" Baby waves in his direction, causing him to smile. He always had a soft spot for her, and apparently it was clear to everybody but himself. He'd like to stay and talk with her but he had a mission to attend to.
He waves back, closing the curtain behind him and then crossing the room to get to the other.
The Puppet waves as well, bidding him a good morning but thankfully not stopping him for any conversation. He was in a hurry, also The Puppet kinda gave him the heebie jeebies and he'd rather not talk to them without mentally preparing himself beforehand.
He opens the other curtain and closes it behind him, just a few steps away from his destination.
He turns the corner and is immediately met head first into the chest of Nightmare, almost knocking him back completely if Nightmare hadn't grabbed his shoulders to stabilize him. The coffee splashed up and onto both of them but mostly remained in the glass from Springtrap's insanely tight grip on it. He quickly composes himself to make sure he doesn't drop and spill the coffee everywhere in the midst of Nightmare holding him upright.
"Sorry." Nightmare says as he lets go of the other, his voice so low and whispery he almost didn't catch it. Nightmare stands back upright, his height completely towering over Springtrap. No wonder he flew back so fast.
"You're okay, sorry." Springtrap apologizes back, wiping the coffee that splashed on his chest. Springtrap sidesteps the other with an awkward smile and continues his way around the corner.
"Asshole, wasn't even watching where he was going." William sneers.
Springtrap shrugs. "It was my fault too."
"Whatever, you had the right of way."
"That is not even how that works."
He slows down when he sees he's finally made it to the mini housing area. It was implemented to give everybody, who wanted one, their own room for privacy. Most of them actually decided to stay lounged around the common areas of the pizzeria, like the Parts and Service rooms and stages, but others like him preferred their own little place.
He steps just a few inches away from Fredbear's door, looking down at the silly little welcome mat under his feet Fredbear insisted he needed. He breathes in and out to calm the sudden anxiety that filled his chest, a little confusing since he had visited Fredbear several times before without a problem. Why was this time so different?
He exhales and brings his hand up to gently knock on the door, a little too quiet at first, causing him to cringe inwardly before knocking a little harder. He quickly brought his hand back to the mug and fiddled with his hands, suddenly unsure of where to put them. He goes through a few different positions, switching from holding the mug with both hands to leaning one hand on the doorframe and then finally opting for just leaving one arm to hang from his side.
He was too busy obsessing over the worst possible way to stand that he didn't hear the movement coming from behind the door until it flung open, making Springtrap jump and immediately lose all false confidence he had mustered at the reveal the bear himself.
"Hi." Fredbear greets him, smile on his face as usual.
"Hi." Springtrap replies a little too quickly, but all tension is quickly dispersed when Fredbear lays a warm hand on his shoulder to shake gently.
"Come in?" Fredbear asks.
Springtrap nods wordlessly and pushes inside, Fredbear closing the door behind him. Springtrap melts at the familiar scent of vanilla candles, making his way across the small room and sitting himself down in 'his' chair to the left of the coffee table, being the chair he always sits in when he's over.
Fredbear joins him, sitting in his own chair to the right of the table. He picks up a book laying upsidedown to stay open and grabs the bookmark next to it to slide it into the page before closing it and setting it back on the coffee table. Springtrap smiles to himself at the small detail that Fredbear had been reading before he showed up, because of course he was.
Fredbear turns his attention toward him and gives him a gentle smile. Springtrap smiles back, feeling his wires spark at the sight, but looks away as to not get distracted from the reason he'd come in the first place.
He clears his throat.
"I got this- I made it.. For uh, for you." He stutters out with a sheepish grin and quickly holds his arm up to hand him the mug, causing the coffee to slosh hazardously but doesn't spill. He mentally punches himself in the face but Fredbear's demeanor doesn't change.
"Really??" He gratefully grabs ahold of the mug and leans back into his chair to inhale the smell of the hot drink.
"That's so nice of you!" His tone is warm and his eyes are soft with fondness.
Springtrap nods quickly and moves his hands to rest on his knees to force his legs to stop bouncing.
Fredbear knocks the cup back and takes a long gracious sip, Springtrap's breath hitches as he looks for any sign of distaste but can't see clearly with the mug in the way.
When Fredbear pulls the cup away from his mouth, he sighs happily. Springtrap is practically on the edge of his seat, fingertips clawing into his knees as he waits for feedback. If he could sweat, he would be soaked.
"Perfect." Fredbear hums, genuinely appreciating the taste on his tongue.
Springtrap lets go of the breath he hadn't realized he was holding and releases his sharp grip on his knees. He leans back into his seat and intertwined his fingers together in his lap.
"Thank you." He breathes, relieved.
"Thank YOU." Fredbear echos.
Springtrap mirrors Fredbear's soft smile, feeling completely at ease when he takes another sip. He feels happy and accomplished, but the sudden wave of fatigue reminds him it is 8 in the morning and he usually sleeps untill 10.
Fredbear must've also noticed this little detail, because when he finishes the cup and sets it down on the table, he looks at Springtrap with slight concern.
"Are you tired? I can only assume you woke yourself up early enough to do this."
"Actually I woke us up." William corrects, but Springtrap shushes him.
"No I'm okay," He picks his hand up from his lap and waves it as if shooing away the worry. "I'll just take a nap later."
Fredbear hums in acknowledgement. There's a pause of silence between them before he speaks up.
"You can sleep with me if you want to." He suggests, and immediately Springtrap finds himself nodding without even thinking about it. He watches Fredbear stand and walk around the coffee table towards him.
"C'mere." He opens his hand and gestures for the other's.
Springtrap grabs his hand, allowing himself to be pulled from the seat and straight into a warm hug. Springtrap immediately melts at the warmth, wrapping his arms around Fredbear's back and sighing into his shoulder.
They stay like that for a second or two, appreciating each others warmth, and Springtrap wishes it lasted longer before Fredbear pulls away but doesn't move far.
Fredbear happily wraps an arm around the others shoulders and guides him to the bed just a foot away before playfully tripping and shoving Springtrap onto the mattress with an 'oof!'.
Springtrap gasps with offense but can't contain his grin as he settles himself comfortably into one side. Fredbear snickers as he makes his way to the other side and sits himself down, the mattress divvying under his weight.
He fluffs his pillows and squints his eyes at the amused look on Springtrap's face while he does so. He settles himself into bed with a contented sigh and kicks his legs under the blankets, then turns to face Springtrap as he plops his head into the pillows.
They just stare at each other for a second, giggling to each other like teenagers trying to stay quiet at a sleepover. Fredbear moves to wrap his arm around the other and pulls him into an embrace, which Springtrap quickly returns with his own arm, and settles his head into Fredbear's chest.
Fredbear gives him a little peck on his forehead before he rests his chin on top, muttering a little 'goodnight'. Springtrap sighs, shutting his eyes and taking in everything he could to appreciate this moment before sleep overtook him.
"Goodnight."
He silently thanks William for this idea.
