In Captain Frenchie’s cabin, Frenchie and his first mate Izzy sit up in bed, unable to sleep. Insomnia isn’t strange for them, but it is certainly less of a pain to deal with when you share a bed with someone who also struggles to sleep. It makes the long, long nights feel less lonely with someone by your side.
Their clasped hands rest on the bed between their thighs, fingers intertwined. Occasionally, Frenchie squeezes Izzy’s hand, the pressure both comforting and reminding Izzy that Frenchie is still awake.
For a while, they chat about mundane things like the running of the ship, and Frenchie insists on gossiping about the relationships of other crew members (Izzy just raises his eyebrows) before they end up slumped against each other as Izzy softly sings a song. But after a while, the room fades into comfortable silence as they listen to each other’s breathing and the waves breaking against the ship.
Izzy’s eyelids droop, so tired from suffering nightmares. Frenchie looks just as bad, his mind filled with unpleasant memories of back then. He smiles when Izzy’s head comes to rest against his shoulder, the weight surprisingly soothing. As Izzy slumps against him, Frenchie turns his head and presses a soft, sweet kiss against Izzy’s hair. Izzy snorts, mumbling something about him being soppy, but he squeezes Frenchie’s hand back.
To Frenchie’s surprise, Izzy falls asleep first, letting out quiet snores as his body goes limp against Frenchie’s side. It takes Frenchie longer to drift off, but finally, as the sun begins to rise and Izzy snores at his side, Frenchie falls into desperately needed sleep.
