It's Aguni’s 47th birthday and he's tired.
He takes a step and feels the exhaustion in every bone of his body. He takes another step and wishes he were younger. Wishes there weren't so many steps up to his apartment. Wishes he'd just taken the elevator.
Aguni's so tired, but he walks on because he has to, because he needs to get home, because he needs to take a shower, needs to make that call to his internet provider, needs to reheat some of his prepared meals for the week before settling onto his couch and facetiming Danma.
Who's... honestly, Aguni doesn't really know where his partner is at the moment, because all those shows and fashion weeks all just melt together in one single Away in his mind. In one long absence, a time where he's alone.
He doesn't deal with being alone all that well anymore.
When he reaches his apartment however, he stops dead in his tracks. There's a smell of fresh curry coming through the door, of curry Aguni tries time and time again to recreate but fails at every time because there's only one person in the whole world who really knows how to make that curry just the way Aguni likes.
Aguni fights with his keys for a moment, poking around the keyhole for longer than he cares to admit, before finally getting the door open. He steps inside his apartment and closes the door behind him.
In the genkan, he finds a pair of shoes that weren’t there this morning.
Slowly, he pulls his boots from his sore feet before placing them next to the smaller ones with the pale red shoelaces. Then, he looks up.
There, leaning casually against the doorframe to their kitchen, is the most beautiful man Aguni has ever seen.
And no, he isn't being dramatic, even though he thinks a lot of people he knows would probably tell him otherwise. It's just the truth; one he doesn't get tired of experiencing over and over again.
"Welcome home, Mori-chan", Danma smiles, his hair open and falling over his shoulders in gentle waves streaked with silver.
Aguni sighs and closes his eyes for a second, just taking in the smell of his favorite food, the faint sound of Danma's relaxation playlist coming from the living room, and the fact that Danma's come home early.
"I should be the one welcoming you home", he finally murmurs, his eyes still closed. He hears a chuckle and soft steps getting closer. Nimble fingers start unbuttoning his shirt and Aguni leans forward, letting his forehead rest against Danma's shoulder. "You're here. Why are you here? Shouldn't you be in Bangkok?"
"Singapore", Danma corrects him with a soft snort, gently removing Aguni's shirt and letting his fingers linger on Aguni's bare shoulders. "But I decided to skip that show. Ann's got everything under control there, and the kids are fine as well. It's their show anyway, they can do it without me. I wasn't going to miss my Mori-chan's birthday."
"I love you", Aguni murmurs, his forehead still pressed against Danma's shoulder.
Danma huffs amused before pressing his lips against Aguni's temple. "Go shower, love, and then we'll eat. After that, we can go to bed like the old men those kids always claim we are."
It's Aguni’s 47th birthday and it's perfect.
