Your Adoration, My Devotion

Summary:

Kaname had already come to terms with his feelings for Tatsumi. The problem was that while his stage personality HiMERU was cool, collected, and had his shit together, he did not. At first, his crush was easy to ignore, but as time passed, he found himself more and more infatuated with the revolutionary of Remei. It didn't really help that Kaname would be making a unit with him. But thats okay, Kaname knows he can keep his feelings to himself long enough for his crush to fade away.

Probably.

Work Text:

Kaname loved Tatsumi. That was just an objective fact. Mammals breathe air, the sky is blue, and Kaname Tojou loved Tatsumi Kazehaya.

Tatsumi was unlike any other person he had ever met. He radiated an aura of calm, of peace, of other-worldly pureness. Kaname almost felt filthy in comparison. Almost. The idol HiMERU could never be associated with a word as ugly as “filthy”.

But that was besides the point.

What was the point was that over the course of less than a year, Kaname had fallen head over heels for the priest. To be fair, Kaname would bet that most people who had interacted with Tatsumi have fallen for the man to some extent. The amount of fan mail Tatsumi received that had fans declaring their romantic feelings for him was definitely a testament to that. Did Kaname internally throw a hissy fit whenever he watched Tatsumi read over those cards with that stupidly handsome smile on his face? Perhaps. But when that same day Tatsumi held him, as friends do of course, that ugly jealousy he felt was replaced with a fuzzy warmth. Despite being openly friendly to all, Tatsumi was not very physically affectionate, usually preferring to show his compassion through kind words. That's what made Kaname cling back just as tightly when the two were left alone.

Though Kaname did have his pride. Some people (Jun) might say he had too much pride. And because of that, Kaname found himself in a rather troubling situation. While he would be more than happy (ecstatic even), to date Tatsumi, he could not bring himself to ask him out.

So what was Kaname’s plan? Well it was to allow his feelings for his beloved to shrivel up and die overtime. That was his plan, when he first admitted to himself he had a crush. The plan lasted two months before Kaname got impatient and switched to plan B, avoidance. But that too only lasted so long until Kaname started to feel lonely and sought out Tatsumi again.

But even though he knew they were not a couple, it seemed like  some others saw their relationship a bit differently.

Recently there had been rumors going around about the… nature of his and Tatsumi’s relationship. Apparently even JUN of all people heard hints of the gossip. Were the rumors truly that widespread?

Did that mean Tatsumi also…

Oh god, the thought was almost mortifying! But wait, if Tatsumi had heard the rumors and still chose to be with him, did he not mind people thinking of them that way? Or…

Well, Tatsumi didn’t engage with gossip anyway. He was much too good for that, he probably knew nothing. Tatsumi also had most likely not heard anything because of his recent absence caused by his… hospitalization.

Seeing Tatsumi collapse like that right in front of him…

But Tatsumi is back now! Which was not inherently good– of course, Kaname did want to see Tatsumi as soon as possible, but Tatsumi really shouldn't have insisted on being discharged early. Well, if Tatsumi was going to be like that, then Kaname would just have to keep a close eye on him.

Today, Kaname is meeting with Tatsumi outside of the catacombs to talk about the creative direction for their unit. Tatsumi suggested the practice rooms their school had would give them enough privacy, and while it wasn’t like their new unit was meant to be a surprise, they did want talk of it to be after an official announcement and not from rumors. When Kaname reaches the room they agreed on, he throws open the door.

“Tatsumi-senpai!” Kaname greets, “Good morning!” Near the back wall of the practice room sits Tatsumi Kazehaya. He is already looking up at Kaname, most likely having heard him from the hallway. He is holding a few sheets of paper that he puts into his own bag as he pats the space on the floor next to him.

“Hehe, your enthusiasm is a joy to see. It's a pleasure to see you too,” Tatsumi chuckles with a fond smile. Kaname sets down his backpack and joins Tatsumi on the floor eagerly. “May I, if I am selfishly allowed to ask, request something of you?”

“Of course!” Kaname responds, a bit too quickly, he thinks. Tatsumi’s eyes no longer hold contact with his own, moving to observe the floor.

“You do not need to address me as your senpai. I…” Tatsumi pauses, “If we are to be in the same unit, we are equals. I am no superior of yours. You can address me as san or kun, or even use no honorific if you want.”

He doesn't want to be called senpai? Kaname never meant to make Tatsumi feel uncomfortable or anything, really! He was just a person Kaname held in such high regard that it felt appropriate to call him anything else…

“N-no problem Tatsumi-kun!” Kaname nods, giving a little mock salute. The gesture makes Tatsumi giggle and Kaname maybe really wants to cause Tatsumi to make such a lovely sound again.

“Now then, should we first discuss the theme of our unit’s music?” Tatsumi asks.

“Yes! One second!” Kaname scrambles over to his backpack and pulls out a school notebook and pencil before returning to Tatsumi’s side, “Do you have any ideas in mind already?”

“Not really,” Tatsumi says, “Admittedly I'm not the best at creating the jumping off point of projects…I was wondering if there was anything you were thinking of?”

“Hm, well…”

Kaname and Tatsumi’s songs tended to use instrumentals, Kaname’s more so. Tatsumi’s music always felt lighter though, maybe it was because of the piano…

Wait… will the fans of HiMERU like whatever style they land on for their unit? People tend to not like change, so going from a solo idol to a unit will already turn some fans off, but changing the style too… There will definitely be people who believe he would have been better staying as a solo idol.

And oh god what is he going to tell his brother?

“You seem to have paled a bit,” Tatsumi’s voice breaks Kaname out of his thoughts, “Are you okay Kaname-kun?”

“I’m a bit nervous,” Kaname admits, “You know, I’m going to be performing as myself and not HiMERU. It's like I'm going to be starting over from scratch. I know that some fans will follow me to our unit but… I'm worried that I might disappoint them, y’know? The first performance is going to be really really important, it's going to give them the first look at what our unit is and if they don't like that…”

“Hehe, I get stage fright too, quite often in fact,” Tatsumi faces Kaname and takes one of Kaname’s hands into his own. “But there is no need to worry, because I will be on that stage right next to you. You are not alone in this.”

It was then that the realization hit Kaname that this was real. This was actually happening to him. He was in a unit. He… he was going to perform alongside Tatsumi Kazehaya, and not as HiMERU the solo idol, no. He was going to perform as Kaname Tojou. A wave of… something hit him, an emotion he couldn’t quite name. It was… overwhelming. But not a bad overwhelming. It made his entire body fill with some sort of anxious-excitement that he couldn’t explain. And the cherry on top was that Tatsumi, the beautiful being that he was, was smiling at him with what can only be described as tenderness in his eyes .

Kaname loved Tatsumi so much, and Tatsumi loved him too.

He leaned forward and kissed Tatsumi on the cheek, grinning with excitement. He felt his smile stretching wider and wider and it might look unflattering but he found himself uncaring of his appearance in the moment of pure elation. He jumps from his spot on the floor, his notebook and pencil falling carelessly, unable to contain his excitement.

“You’re right! Of course I will have no need to worry with you by my side! And there's no need for you to be nervous either! We are two of the top idols at Reimei, so it is only possible for us to perform better together! We will make the greatest performance this school and its alumni have ever seen! Well, we haven't announced our unit yet but after we do we-”

The words die in his throat when he looks down and sees Tatsumi staring up at him, seemingly shocked. Confusion is the first thing Kaname feels, which only grows when he sees Tatsumi holding a hand over the cheek that Kaname just kissed.

The one that he kissed…?

The-

Wait.

Oh.

Oh fuck.

Holy shit, wait a minute.

OhmygodohmygodwhatdidhejustdowhatjusthappendwhydidhedothatwhatthehellwereyouthinkingKanameyouwerentthinkingthatstheproblemwhatthehellhowareyougoingtogetoutofthisyeshemightbetheloveofyourlifebutyouneedtocontrolyourselfbetterohshithesgoingtohateyounownowaitTatsumidoesnthateanyonebutheistotallyfreakedoutwhywouldhelikeyoulikethathestoogoodforyouwhydidyouhavetofallfor-

Kaname doesn’t even notice that he is about to run until he feels a hand grab his wrist. He looks back and sees Tatsumi, who is still looking at him with wide eyes but now with a new light blush on his cheeks. Wait, is that a blush or is Kaname deluding himself? Either way, Tatsumi gently pulls on Kaname’s arm, asking him to sit back down. The shame that just burned inside of him, that yelled at him to run away, was replaced with the desire to please Tatsumi. So, Kaname sat back down.

Closer, Kaname could see that Tatsumi is in fact blushing which- wow okay they are really close now. Their faces are a couple of inches apart, so close that Kaname can actually hear the little inhales and exhales Tatsumi was taking.

A sudden thought enters Kaname’s head, a thought he does have often but really? Right now? It did not make him feel any calmer. He glances down at Tatsumi’s lips, but just briefly! Oh, oh is Tatsumi looking at his lips too? That doesn’t settle his nerves at all. Neither does when Tatsumi leans in a bit closer, with Kaname doing the same. Tatsumi is so close Kaname can only close his eyes, praying that whatever is happening is not a dream and that when he opens his eyes Tatsumi will still be in front of his smiling that gorgeous smile-

He feels a pair of lips on his. Huh.

It…

It’s okay. There isn’t much to it. It just feels like lips pressed against each other, both of them being completely still. The most exciting aspect of it is the fact that he is actually kissing Tatsumi Kazehaya. Tatsumi’s lips are very soft, which is expected (since it's Tatsumi) but it is still a bit remarkable just how soft lips could feel.

It is underwhelming, to say the least, but Kaname will never admit that to Tatsumi. There has to be more. Maybe they aren’t doing it right? There has to be more of a… sensation to it, right?

When Tatsumi pulls back a bit, Kaname starts to panic. Tatsumi doesn’t like the kiss, oh this is gonna ruin their relationship. Yes Tatsumi does seem to want Kaname to stay but now? After that? Noooooo no no no. An overwhelming feeling of embarrassment fills Kaname’s entire body. Kaname has felt embarrassment before, but this is Tatsumi, someone he desperately wanted to impress. That kiss was nothing like the fireworks those mangas (that Kaname definitely didn't read) described it to be.

“Hehe…”

Kaname snaps out of his swirling thoughts and suddenly wishes for the earth to swallow him whole. Tatsumi’s mouth is twisting in a way Kaname never saw, like he’s trying not to smile. That on its own might have Kaname cooing, but the giggling passing the lips he kissed only moments earlier fills him with shame. Kaname bows his head, not wanting to meet his beloved's eyes. It is then he becomes acutely aware of the position he is in, and wonders whether backing away would somehow allow him to breath, but Tatsumi speaks before he could act.

“Forgive me, but I have no clue how to do this…”

Kaname’s head snaps up, his eyes wide. Tatsumi has an almost apologetic look on his face, and both of his hands are fidgeting with each other. But what surprises Kaname the most is just how red Tatsumi’s face is . Kaname briefly thinks to push aside Tatsumi’s hair to check if his ears are also red, but quickly dismisses the frankly absurd but nonetheless tempting idea.

“M-me neither…” Kaname almost whispers. The two stare at each other, but Kaname notices the silence around them isn’t uncomfortable. Kaname’s hand reaches out and finds Tatsumi’s to lace their fingers together. Tatsumi stares at their hands in awe, turning them around as if to fully examine them.

“Do… do you want to try again?” Kaname asks, albeit apprehensive.

“...Yes. Yes I think I do,” replies Tatsumi, and Kaname feels as if a weight has been physically lifted off of his shoulders.

“Well uh. It… it might work better if we… were closer?” Kaname suggests. Tatsumi tilts his head in confusion and Kaname sighs, trying to block out all the thoughts screaming at him to stop and save his dignity as he climbs into Tatsumi’s lap. The latter lets out a mouse-like squeak and Kaname shifts to make himself more comfortable, desperately hoping this is a good move. Now their faces are mere centimeters apart.

“...Is this alright?” Kaname asks, and Tatsumi gives him a wordless nod while quickly recomposing himself to wear a gentle smile. Kaname moves his hands to hold both of Tatsumi’s shoulders, and just as he is going to lean in for another kiss, Tatsumi takes the strand of Kaname’s hair that rests in front of his face and tucks it behind his ear.

“Apologies, I just wanted to see your face more clearly. You are quite beautiful,” Tatsumi says calmly. Kaname feels as if his brain had just exploded.

“You-! How can you just say something like that with a straight face?!” Kaname immediately regrets his words, fearing that they will be misinterpreted and that Tatsumi will think Kaname’s brain didn't just file that sentence in his top five best moments of his life, but Tatsumi’s smile only seems to widen.

“I’m sorry, I have always been compelled to tell the truth,” he says with a cheeky grin. Kaname lightly slaps Tatsumi’s shoulder.

“You flirt,” Kaname huffs, making Tatsumi let out a laugh. Honestly, the teasing is worth hearing the laugh- not a chuckle, not a giggle! A full, unrestrained laugh. It suits Tatsumi.

“Hehe, alright, alright,” Tatsumi smiles and gazes lovingly at Kaname. He takes Kaname’s hand once more, “May I… try again?”

Kaname eagerly nods his head in response, unable to stop himself from smiling as his eyes slip shut.

Tatsumi leans in again and places their lips together. The kiss feels the same as the first, but the shortened distance does make the experience more comforting. As their lips rest on each other for what can’t be more than a second, Kaname feels fingers softly brush against his left cheek. It is as if Tatsumi wants to cup his cheek but is too nervous to do so and if that thought doesn’t make Kaname’s chest swell with warmth. In return, Kaname tilts his head into the other’s palm. But, as he moves the position of his head his lips also shift and-

Oh. Oh wow.

Instead of their lips just pressing against one another, Tatsumi’s top lip now rests in between Kaname’s top and bottom ones. Despite his shock, Kaname manages to not pull back too quickly but looks  to see Tatsumi’s own eyes wide, a light flush adorning his face.

“That was-”

“Can we do that again?” Kaname blurts out. Tatsumi’s face turns even more red, but he slowly nods. With one hand still resting on Kaname’s cheek, Tatsumi gently pulls Kaname’s face towards his own and their lips slot back together again.

The sensation is less surprising the second time, but it doesn’t make it any less strange. Not a negative strange, no not at all. Just… somewhat odd. It’s a pressure on his lips that he’s never felt, like they were being pulled- but he knew that couldn’t be possible because Tatsumi’s lips hardly moved.

The warmth from Tatsumi’s hand is just enough that it doesn’t feel  too hot, and his other hand moves to the back of Kaname’s head, fingers running through his hair and nails gently scraping against his scalp. Wait, should Kaname be doing something with his own hands? He can’t just have his arms continue to hang by his sides, no, that’s not romantic at all! Should he hold Tatsumi’s face? What about moving his arms around his neck? He’s seen that before in manga, manga he was only skimming through, and that seemed really cute. Yes, he can do that. Totally! Kaname hesitantly wraps his arms around Tatsumi’s neck, feeling a fluttering in his chest when he hears Tatsumi gasp a little, the other's mouth opening just slightly more.

Tatsumi pulls his face away and Kaname opens his eyes, delighted to see the other boy the slightest bit disheveled. Tatsumi’s breathing is a bit heavier, but Kaname can't tell if it is from nerves or whatever they just did.

“You’re not good for my heart,” Tatsumi says, breathless. Kaname moves one of his arms from around Tatsumi’s shoulders to place his hand, curiously, on Tatsumi’s chest. Kaname was nervous for a second on account of just how fast and hard it was beating. That can’t be healthy, right? Is he going to have a heart attack? If he is having one there’s no way Tatsumi would ever tell Kaname. He’d probably say something like, ‘I didn’t want to ruin the moment for you,’ or ‘I’m content with dying if it is in your arms.’

…

Okay that last one is absurd, even Kaname could admit that, but the first one is completely possible!

“A-are you okay?!” Kaname shouts, more than asks, to his embarrassment. Tatsumi startles a little at the loudness, but then gives a small smile.

“Yes, don’t worry about me… the nerves are simply getting to me,” He says softly while taking his hand off Kaname’s cheek to hold the hand on his chest instead. Tatsumi looks down at it as he slowly rubs his thumb in circles on the back of Kaname’s hand. Tatsumi is nervous, okay, that’s fine. Except it isn’t fine because Kaname doesn't know how he can keep it together if Tatsumi is feeling nervous too. Tatsumi has always been the stable one between the two of them. Well, not exactly always, there were times (too many in Kaname’s opinion) where Tatsumi would work himself into the ground and Kaname had to be the one to force him to rest. But for the most part, Kaname is the more emotional of the two of them.

Kaname pulls his, and Tatsumi’s, hand towards him and holds Tatsumi’s palm over his own heart. He hopes that Tatsumi will understand what Kaname is trying to say, hopes that the racing pulse of his own heart will convey the reassurance he is trying to give.

‘Don’t worry, I’m nervous too.’

Tension seems to leave the other boy’s body, his posture becoming less rigid. Tatsumi leans in a bit, giving Kaname a small kiss on his cheek. Then a small kiss on his jaw. Then a small kiss on his neck. Then another. Then another. Kaname tries to hold back his giggles as much as possible from the tickling sensation of the kisses, but his shoulders still shake.

“Mm, you are so beautiful Kaname…” Tatsumi mumbles in between kisses. Kaname laughs, both from the kisses and from Tatsumi’s words. Tatsumi finally moves away from his neck and takes both of Kaname’s hands into his own to kiss Kaname’s knuckles. He never expected Tatsumi to be a romantic… Well, he definitely fantasized about Tatsumi speaking and treating him like this, but it actually happening? Oh god this is happening. He is straddling his crush while kissing him.

In a moment of what Kaname would prefer to call passion, he surges forward, almost knocking their heads together. Kaname lets his eyes slip shut as he embraces Tatsumi once more. He brings his hands up to both sides of Tatsumi’s face and holds him gently, and Tatsumi makes a pleased hum.

This kiss is… different from the previous ones. Both of their mouths are a bit more open, Kaname’s nerves being replaced with some sort of bubbly feeling and Tatsumi’s hands moving with a bit more confidence. Meaning one of Tatsumi’s hands moves over Kaname’s right hand, which is still cupping Tatsumi’s cheek, and holds it there. His other hand moves to the side of Kaname’s torso, rubbing up and down in a soothing manner.

Kaname’s arms move back around Tatsumi’s neck, pulling both of them closer (if that was possible). He can feel Tatsumi’s hand brushing against his cheek, trailing down his neck and to the back of his head where he starts to play with Kaname’s hair. The action is so unbearably endearing that Kaname giggles into their kiss, and he feels Tatsumi’s lips curl up into a smile. For a bit, the two of them simply allowed their lips to push against each other, Tatsumi sometimes sucking lightly on Kaname’s bottom lip. It was a bit wet (which should have been more off-putting than it was), but the slight messiness was a small price to pay for just how close he felt to Tatsumi.

Kaname doesn't know what led his mind to thinking about it, but didn’t that one manga show the two leads using their tongues during their kiss? Maybe he should try that? But how does that even work? Kaname’s nerves come back in full force as he tries to rationalize how he is supposed to go about that. So far Tatsumi has been fine with everything so maybe…

Kaname lets his tongue brush against Tatsumi’s bottom lip during the kiss. For a moment, Tatsumi slows down a bit, and Kaname can all but feel the shaky exhale the other boy lets out. But he’s still here. That-that has to mean it is fine, right? So Kaname lets his tongue run over Tatsumi’s lip again and in response Tatsumi opens his mouth a little more. With that, he, choosing to ignore his brain’s reasonable warnings once more, licks into Tatsumi’s mouth.

It’s weird. It’s really really weird. Logically, Kaname knows this is a bit disgusting, having his tongue in another person’s mouth. Well, sort of in, because Kaname is very hesitant about going any further. “Swapping spit,” is definitely an accurate description of what is happening, and he can even feel a bit of spit on his chin.

It should be revolting.

Yet..

Kaname can only focus on what he is feeling, and oh boy is he feeling something. The nerves from before are still present but overshadowing them is the overpowering warmth of Tatsumi. All he’s doing is lightly running his tongue over Tatsumi’s teeth. Something like that should not make him feel as light headed as it did! It should have been really weird! Thankfully Kaname doesn’t seem to be the only one enjoying these ridiculous actions. Every now and then, Tatsumi  shudders and makes cute little noises that only encourage Kaname. At some point, Kaname feels something brush against his own tongue, and it takes a second for him to process that it is Tatsumi’s.

Again, this should be utterly disgusting, but Kaname can’t help the adrenaline that rushes through his body. Kaname feels like he is buzzing  as their tongues meet again, then again, then again.

He can taste something slightly bitter, eventually recognizing it as the tea Tatsumi must have been drinking earlier. Under any other circumstances, Kaname would have started to feel self conscious, hoping he himself doesn’t taste bad, but his mind is too occupied by Tatsumi to care much. They are so close now, both of their chests pressing together. The intimacy of it all is almost scary. But  if there’s one person he feels safest with, it would be with the boy he is kissing silly.

He has no clue if this is what kissing is even supposed to be or feel like. Hell, he can’t even tell if this is a good kiss, but it sure feels like it is . Their movements may be a bit clumsy but all Kaname can think about is how much he wants more of this. More of this kissing, more of this feeling, more of Tatsumi’s warmth, more of Tatsumi’s noises, more of Tatsumi-

Kaname doesn’t realize how far he’s pushing himself into Tatsumi until he feels both of them start to fall. Luckily, they are both already on the ground, so it isn’t that long of a fall. Even then, Kaname is sitting in Tatsumi’s lap, so he simply falls forward into the other’s chest. But when Tatsumi’s back hits the floor, there is a dull but loud thud and a sharp inhale from the boy under him. The haze that previously clouded his mind clears away immediately as Kaname quickly bolts up and starts to apologize.

“Tatsumi! I-I’m so sorry Tatsumi-kun, a-are you hurt? Did you hit your head? Oh no- wait- do you need an ice pack? I didn't mean for- …Tatsumi-kun?”

Tatsumi’s face is a sight to see. It flushed a pink that looked really pretty on him. His pupils are dilated as he stares up at the ceiling, and his hair splays out under him. And his lips, oh wow, they’re parted and slightly red and puffy, and wait did he do that?

“T-tatsumi-kun? Are you alright?”

Tatsumi is quiet underneath him for a bit longer until his lips quirk up.

“Wow.”

Then Tatsumi starts to laugh. What is first a couple of soft giggles soon evolves into a belly laugh. Kaname, extremely confused now, is about to ask him if he’s okay before he gets pulled down into Tatsumi’s chest.

“That was certainly something,” Tatsumi says after his laughter tapers off. There is a certain glee in his words that Kaname has never heard before. It is childlike, almost. He lifts his head and sees Tatsumi looking at him with a look so full of adoration that he can’t stop himself from smiling.

“That's one way to phrase it…” Kaname mumbles, “But seriously, are you okay? You hit your head pretty hard there.”

“Ah, don't worry Kaname. It aches a bit but-”

“Oh, you-” Kaname pulls himself up off of Tatsumi and stands up with as much grace as he can considering both of his legs are asleep from the weird positions they were in. “You always wave off any concern about you! You have to take care of yourself! What if you got a concussion?! You literally just came out of the hospital!”

Kaname huffs and Tatsumi props himself up on his elbows with wide eyes, seemingly taken aback by Kaname’s stern tone.

“That’s-”

“Hmph, you know I'm not always going to be here to take care of you,” Kaname crosses his arms before walking over to his bag and fishing out his water bottle. It's not completely freezing, but hey, it's better than nothing. He moves back to where Tatsumi is now sitting up, pressing down on the back of his head before flinching and moving his hand away. Kaname sits down and hands him the bottle, and Tatsumi gives a small thank you before placing it where his hand just was.

Tatsumi has always been so strange. Telling him he doesn't wish to be a martyr but then refusing to prioritize himself in any way- Maybe it's not a conscious contradiction, maybe it's just something he learned from growing up in a church…

Wait. Wait wait wait.

“Oh g- I am so sorry!”

“Hm? Whatever for?” Tatsumi was still smiling but his brows were creased, confused by Kaname’s sudden outburst.

“Don't Christains have some like, rule or something against kissing-stuff before marriage?” Kaname buries his face into his hands, shame swelling, “Argh, I didn't mean to like, taint you or anything! I'm sorry you were just so pretty but I should have known better…” What is going to happen now? What happens when you break rules like that, do you get punished by God or something? Is Tatsumi going to get kicked out of his religion?

“Do not worry, Kaname-kun. Such beliefs only pertain to premarital intercourse. And you did not taint me in any way, shape or form.” Tatsumi leans forward and gives Kaname a small kiss on his forehead, “God has given us the gift of love, and I have been longing to share mine with you before this. If anything, you have eased my heart by showing me you feel the same. It is hard for me to believe that it is wrong for me to show you how much you mean to me, my love.”

‘My love.’

That…

‘My love.’

This is so unfair.

Kaname feels his eyes sting and his face get warmer.

How does Tatsumi always know exactly what to say to make him feel so cared for?

“Kaname-kun? Oh dear, it's okay, don’t cry. Are you alright?” Tatsumi puts down the water bottle and moves to hold Kaname’s face, swiping away the tears that run down his cheeks. Kaname shakes his head.

“I'm sorry, no no these are like, happy tears I think,” Kaname chokes out, trying to will the tears away as best as he can, “You are just- you are so amazing I-I just like- I feel so happy right now. If God or like, fate really does exist I am so happy whatever is out there let us meet each other. You are the nicest, most amazing person I have ever met, a-a-and the fact that you like me just as much as I like you…You’re so beautiful and like- Life is really shitty sometimes but you- you just are so… I love you so much Tatsumi Kazehaya!”

A pause.

“Oh Kaname…” Tatsumi lets out a shaky laugh, “You’re making me cry too…”

“Noooo,” Kaname whines, “If you start crying then I won't be able to stop!” They both laugh, and Kaname hugs Tatsumi, snuggling his head between Tatsumi’s neck and shoulder. It has to be uncomfortable, given that Kaname is literally crying on him and Tatsumi’s shirt is getting a bit damp from his tears, but Tatsumi only hugs him back. The two stay like that, quietly crying and sniffling in each other's arms, for a while before Tatsumi breaks the comfortable silence.

“Kaname-kun… Can you look at me for a moment?”

Who is he to say no? Kaname pulls back and looks. He looks at the boy in front of him through his slightly blurry vision, through his tears still streaming down his face at the other boy as he wears the biggest smile Kaname has ever seen on him.

“No matter what happens to you, or me, please know this: Next to God, you are the most wonderful thing to happen to me.”

Tatsumi places a hand on Kaname’s cheek and Kaname doesn't resist the slight pull forward as Tatsumi seals their lips in a short but sweet kiss. When they both pull back, Tatsumi speaks in almost a whisper, as if his words are a secret that just the two of them can know.

“I love you too, Kaname Tojou.”

Notes:

Okay going to just be completely honest this entire fic was just an excuse to practice writing kissing.

This is like my first fluff fic ever and I though why not just do something different and it went down hill from there. These two make me so sick like I am so serious right now, they are so underrated. There's like almost no fics of them so I might as well be the change I want to see in the world.

Thank you so much to my editor for dealing with me, she is so close to throwing me out a window. This fic would be a mess without her. Thanks y'all for reading hope you guys enjoyed.
