Chapter 1: lazy beginnigns

Chapter Text

It was a beautiful day out that day, the day when i got my quirk, the day where our...sorry, my story started heheh...whats with this script...."

The sun was shining bright over the city of Mustafu and through the window of the quirk examiners office and waiting space. Being a place where kids ranging from ages of 4-6 (some of them are late bloomers) would come to see what their quirks were, it was pretty packed. One child in particular had come here for the second time, this child's name was Sans.

A kid with green hair, came out of the examiners office with a blank expression, followed closely by his mother. "jeez...must've been rough if the kid looks like that" A pair of (literal) glowing small white orbs followed said green-ete, all the way out the door, before a light smack landed on the back of the child's head. "Sans, that was a very rude thing to say out loud, even if they didn't hear you."
Sans, looked up at his father, who was an actual skeleton, no skin or anything, just bones. "aw c'mon dad, you always tell me to pay more attention to my surroundings and the people in them, so i'm putting that into practice here."

Sans's father, W.D. Gaster, sighs and rests his skull in the palms of his hands. "Oh god...how am I going to handle both you and your little brother..." Sans gives a small chuckle, about to say something else before one of the doctors that works here calls them in.

Now in the quirk examiners office, after a half an hour of numerous tests on what Sans's quirk is again, both Sans and Gaster are sat in front of said examiner. "Now Mr. Gaster, it seems your son here, has had a new development in his quirk, just like you expected. Apart from his appearance taking on that of a skeleton, with no skin, organs or any other part that the human body would need to function, it turns out that he can also manipulate some form of energy like you can. While they aren't the same, both of your quirks are similar enough to be considered under the same name of 'Magic'."

Gaster gets a curious look on his 'face' and leans in slightly, asking. "What do you mean sir? How different is my sons quirk from my own?" The examiner sighs a little and explains further. "It seems that your son can control a larger amount of this energy than you can, however its because of this, his body is less durable. It shouldn't pose a large problem, as long as he doesn't get needlessly hit and this problem should go away as he gets older, since we assume that its just his body getting used to this new aspect of his quirk." Gaster nods, leaning back in his chair and glancing over to his son who is..."God dammit Sans! How many times have I told you to not fall asleep when people are talking to you?" Sans jolts awake, yawning and rubbing his eye sockets, his eye lights slowly fading into existence as he looks up to his father. "m'up, m'up jeez old man..." This earns another light smack up the back of his skull, though this one is much lighter then the one he received in the waiting room.

After that spectacle of an interaction between father and son, they returned home. Before they got out of the car, Gaster stopped his son and looked into his eyes. "Sans...for one...Im sorry for how I acted at the quirk examination, It wasn't right of me, not that you didn't have it coming, but none the less, Im sorry." Sans gazed at his father for a few seconds before snorting a little and shaking his head. "na don't sweat it dad, i did kinda take that one wrench with out asking, anywho, we should get in before Pap wakes up." Sans moves to open the car door before his father stops him again. "Sans, now that we know that you to can control magic like I can, I think we should start training, so you know how to defend you and your brother if anything ever happens." Sans thought it over for a few minutes, during which, they had gone inside and gotten settled in. "yeah, sure if thats what you think is best dad, i don't mind it heheh."

And so thats how it went for the following 8 years, Gaster had trained not only his son Sans, but his younger son, Papyrus as well, on how to properly use their quirk (Papyrus has the same quirk as both Sans and Gaster, being able to control an amount of energy somewhere between his father and older brother) and how to not use it, of course this training wasn't very intense as they were just kids and planning to go to U.A. Well, more like Papyrus had convinced Sans to become a hero so they could be a brotherly duo when Papyrus graduated.

One morning, Sans wakes up late, as usual, and can already smell breakfast setting. Going through his morning routine of getting a mug of coffee for himself, he sits down at the table, watching the news since he's too lazy to 'fight' with his dad about it. Its usual stuff, weather n' all that until it switches to live feed of villain attack. Not paying much attention, only knowing that its a giant villain, he gets ready for school which his younger brother is already at, freezing when he hears his fathers voice. "Sans, I trust that isn't you getting ready for school, since Its already well past 7." Sans slowly continues to slip on the school uniform, or well, just the pants, opting for his own jacket since apparently the school didn't care enough to bother getting after him about it again. "uh...maybe? you know I can just take a shortcut there dad." Slipping on his shoes, which dont have laces as Gaster responds, sounding tired. "Thats technically illegal usage of your quirk Sans, but you knew that already didn't you?" He doesn't get a response, only hearing the tell-tale 'click' of Sans's teleportation. "...I'll get him to show me how to do that one day"

School was normal, at least until the end of the day, when their teacher went on about a career aptitude test, not that Sans was paying attention. Until the teacher said that they all wanted to be heroes, so there was no point, causing Sans to grumble a little, having been woken up from a nap. Said teacher went on to explain that a kid named Bakugo wanted to go to U.A. before continuing that Sans himself wanted to which earned a glare from the blonde. Which only was topped by the reaction that he gave when some kid named Midoriya also wanted to.
Letting his eye-lights follow Bakugo as he moved from his desk to the Midoriya kids desk, exploding it and sending the poor green-ete to the floor, Sans got up, shortcutting behind the explosive blonde, placing a skeletal hand on his shoulder in a much more relaxed imitation of what Bakugo was doing to the green haired kid. "hey man, chill out, its not that deep" Sans spoke as calm and laid back as ever, only earning an explosion from said blonde. The smoke set up from the explosion hid Sans's sneaky teleportation to the blondes opposite side, in which he placed another boney hand on his shoulder. "and that wasn't very nice."

His eye-lights were trained on Bakugo's own red eyes, his stare not wavering for anything. The blonde only scoffed and let go of Midoriya, seemingly having his fun spoiled by Sans's interruption. "jeez...that wasn't cool of him" He moved his eye-lights down to Midoriya's own eyes. "you good man?" Midoriya only stared back, look of shock on his face. "uh...y'know you could take a picture, it'd last longer." Sans chuckled a little and offered a hand to the green haired kid, who took it after a few seconds. "who was that jerk anyway? he really likes to 'blow' things out of proportion, doesn't he? what's so wrong with wanting to go to U.A. anyways?"

MIdoriya shook himself out of his daze, getting up with the help of the skeleton in front of him, then he realized that the skeleton's hands were warm! But how? Blood does come from bones but it shouldn't be circulating enough for there to be warmth. And then there's the question of whether they're fully skeletal or if it's just their head and what their quirk is either way, since it's really cool! Their eye...lights? Seem to be glowing as well, maybe it's part of the quirk but he hasn't heard of a quirk like- "woah, woah chill out dude, i barely heard any of what you just said." Sans chuckles a little and retracts his hand, slipping it into his jacket pocket before picking up a notebook and handing it to the now cherry tomato looking teen. "this yours?"
With a quick nod and thank you, the green-ette takes the notebook and rushes out of the classroom. Sans shrugs and remembers that he has to go shopping today and opts to taking a shortcut to the first store.

A half an hour later, Sans is wandering down to street towards the last store on his list, when he looks up to see a crowd formed around what he assumes to be a villain attack, grumbling a little. "jeez another one...? these villains sure are gettin brave...wait don't tell me....the store was there wasn't it? well...no point in going there i guess, i'll just text dad that it's closed."
Shrugging, Sans just walked away, only hearing a faint *BOOM* before it started raining. Taking the slow way home, he hummed, having always liked the rain. "heh...not everyday that it rains so close to summer, it really got the 'drop' on us heheheh."
Passing a unhealthy skinny blonde old man and that same green haired teen, he didn't stop, even when he heard a scream, deciding that it didn't sound blood curdling so it should be fine.

When he got home, Sans mentioned to his father most of what had happened on his shopping trip, leaving out the sudo-fight before hand. His father met him in the kitchen, sorting through all the groceries. "Sans, there's little more then ten months before U.A.'s entrance exam, I want you to at least train no more than 5 times a month to show me you still remember how to at least hold your own. And I want to teach you that one...move that you always wanted, just an extra layer of precaution." Sans nodded, his usual grin still there as he helped put away all the stuff he bought. "all right pops, will do."
