Summary:

Sidney Crosby retires, plays more hockey than he expected, figures out his life with the aid of an emotional support puck, and gets his man. The world witness bits and pieces of it through social media.

(A journey of figuring out life after retirement the only way he knows how - playing more hockey).

Notes:

Disclaimer: This NOT real. It is ALL fiction.

MikaTheMad beta read my fic. He edited the thing into a readable shape. All remaining mistakes are mine.

Crystal created an amazing fan album/fan mix to accompany the fic. We had many conversations about the song choices and song order, and we giggled over some of the songs that were not in this mix but would be amazing as a Side B/Nate's mix. LOLS. The album is super fun!!!

Work Text:

Sid didn't know if the puck went in or not. He just lunged for it with his stick, losing his balance as he did, his body going down, impacting the ice hard and with enough momentum that it sent his body sliding across the ice. The air was knocked out of his lungs and he prayed with the last of his hope that the sacrifices they had made, that the countless hours doing drills, that the blood and tears they'd shed had paid off. That the fucking hockey gods were grinning down on them with favour today.

A split second of deadly silence and then a sudden explosion of sounds - the horn announcing it was a goal, the screaming of the fans, and the crushing weight of his team crashing on top of him while he laid on the ice trying to comprehend what had just happened.

The winning goal for the Stanley Cup. Fucking fuck. They did it, after a season of injuries, trades and fucking heartbreak they got their fourth Cup.

His teammates, his brothers-in-arms swamped him, hugging and screaming their joy. And Sid was screaming back, needing to let out the pent-up feelings from the last two months, his body unable to contain the flood of emotions wanting to break free from his every cell. He was willing to crack open his chest in order to let out the well of uncontrollable joy.

He hadn't thought it would happen again - winning the Cup with Geno and Kris by his side. They had come into this year knowing that this was it - do or die. They hadn't been good enough last year, a devastating second series exit. And this year was full of aggravation, injuries, and lines that kept on not connecting. But somehow they made it into the Stanley Cup Finals, and now they were the Stanley Cup champions.

Everything was a blur for him - the media, the speeches, and the presences of their loved ones and the fans. He'd done this before, but every time he tried to capture what was happening around him it was as if his brain just stopped working, overwhelmed by all the information that was swamping his brain. They reached it again - the only goal that mattered as an NHL player.

He grabbed the Cup, its weight familiar in his hands, his palms and fingers brushing against the engraved names as he lifted it above his head, shouting in joy, and eyes wet with unshed tears. So very few things in life came even close to winning the Cup. And so very few people knew what it felt like to win it, and fewer still got to experience winning it with the same few people who lived and breathed the need to win it above all else, again and again.

"Geno! Kris!," he shouted, seeking them out amongst the cluster of players. They made their way to the front, both of them skating towards him, and he moved towards them as fast as he could so that he nearly bowled the both of them over with his momentum. They reached out, held him steady. He took a step back, grinned at them and passed the Cup to their outstretched hands. And then hands grabbed onto his own as he tried to let go. He looked at the two of them - unkempt playoff beards, sweat soaked hair and deep smile lines around their mouths and the edges of their eyes as they grinned at him, waiting. He grinned back, wordless understanding passing between them, and moved closer towards them, and with a push the three of them raised the Cup above their heads together.

He wanted to savor this moment, surrounded by the people who knew him best. The weight of the Cup was so much lighter, held up by three sets of hands.

He flung his head back and screamed in glee, and then turned his head towards the entrance of the tunnel back to the locker rooms. Standing in the shadows, barely noticeable, was a lone figure in an unmarked cap. Sid could see a flash of teeth as the figure smiled at him, and then a careless wave. The figure nodded their head to the people surrounding Sid, letting him know that it was fine for him to celebrate this with his team and his family, that they would be right there, waiting for Sid.

And Sid suddenly wanted to skate over to him, to Nate who came to this game despite the Avs losing in the Conference finals, Sid wanted Nate here with him - triumphant and joyous, because win or lose he wanted to share his final moments in the NHL with Nate.

Pittsburgh Penguins Cup Celebration ends with the Stanley Cup in Sidney Crosby’s pool. Again.

Mon 23 June 2025

It is that time of the year again, when Stanley Cup winners let their hair down and go wild. Each year we are entertained by the photos, the videos and stories that are told of the legendary party celebrations and player antics. This year is no different as the Pittsburgh Penguins held their Cup celebration at captain Sidney Crosby's mansion once more. From the photos and the videos we have seen, no expense was spared for the bash - bottles of champagne used to create a fountain, enough food to feed a thousand people (honestly it seems like there were that many people there) and so much more!

Cat99 23/06/2025 4:04 AM

OMFG! DID YOU GUYS SEE THE VIDS OF THE PARTY?!

Ms. Mooncake 23/06/2025 4.04 AM

YEEEES! I did! EVERYONE looked so happy! Mario was there too!

Chocobo81 23/06/2025 4.11 AM

OK, I might be delulu… but is that Nate pushing Sid into the pool?

He didn't remember how they made it out of the arena and back to his place. But the team and Jen really outdid themselves this year. His house was lit up like a Christmas tree, filled to the brim with friends, family, and what felt like the whole  Pens organisation. He was also pretty sure there were a tonne of random people that seemed to have walked off the street and stumbled into the party at his house. He was too happy and too drunk to care.

The team was spread out all over the house, laughing and engaged in some form of entertainment or other - drinking, talking to each other, playing drinking games, and so much more.

He saw Jen and Amanda shouting and laughing with the marketing people, who then, all of them together, stumbled their way to the karaoke machine. He didn't know who'd gotten the karaoke machine but it definitely added to the chaos as people broke into small groups and started a highly complicated and involved singing competition. He got enough blackmail material to last him a lifetime.

Dubas and Spezza were huddled together with Sully in the living room, more than halfway to being drunk. The three of them were giggling and gesticulating wildly, dressed in t-shirts and shorts. It was a level of strange that Sid was not ready to think about or handle, for that matter.

The Cup was sitting in the yard, well away from the pool. The Cup Keeper knew his tricks now and he couldn't pull off the same act he did the last time they won the Cup. But he had back-up this year. He looked over to Tanger chatting with his parents, flicked his eyes to the cup and then back to Tanger again. Tanger gave him a grin and a little nod before walking towards the Cup Keeper. Sid felt a tiny bit of sympathy before burying it. There was a Penguins tradition to uphold.

Not for the first time -  and probably not the last time either - Sid was impressed by Tanger's ability to know exactly how to coax anyone into a conversation. Not long after, the Cup Keeper was fully engaged with Tanger,  slowly being guided away from his station, and Tanger gave Sid a wink. As soon as the man was a safe distance away, PO and G appeared - Geno acted as his screen standing in front of the Cup while PO grabbed the Cup and made a beeline for Sid, all the while madly cackling.

Sid started laughing even before PO had passed the Cup to him, the shape and weight of it solid and familiar in his hands. He turned toward the pool, but before he could even do anything he felt someone barrel into him from behind, strong arms going around his waist, holding on tight. Nate’s familiar laughter in his ears, and the momentum of him running into Sid carried the both of them and the Cup into the pool. The sounds of laughter and shouting were the last thing he heard before his body was fully submerged, Nate’s arm secure around his waist, and the Cup firmly in his hands.

The Cup had to go into the pool. It was a Pens tradition.

Wonder if Sid will sign another contract with the Pens? He's still so good.

SIDNEY CROSBY RETIRES.

SIDNEY CROSBY HAS RETIRED - WHAT NOW?!

PenGuy66 3h

Guys, I was at the Cup parade, and we all knew something was going to happen bcos the team looked like they were all near to tears on the stage. Usually Stanley Cup winning teams are fucking drunk off their asses on stage and just nuts. But yeah, when Sid made the announcement the whole crowd just went quiet. [VIDS]. It was intense.

But now the question needs to be asked - What now? Are we going to fall off a cliff without Sid?

Gigglygoo 3h

We 100% fall off the cliff and die a death not seen since before Mario Lemieux bought the Pens.

Peanutbutterfan 3h

Our overlord FSG won’t let the ship sink. And our POHO kept a few prospects in our system that have been developing for the past two to three years, time for them to shine.

PenGuy66 1h

I WANT to believe so hard. But I’m terrified, I have never known a Pens team without Sidney Crosby as the captain.

Bananabread87 2h

Before the doom and gloom, let’s all just enjoy the Cup parade video once more [VID]. Who was at it? Felt like the whole of Pittsburgh gonna shut down for it!!!

Penguins Captain Sidney Crosby Near Tears as he said his goodbyes to his fans at the Cup Parade

Sidney Crosby Says Goodbye in front of 700,000 fans

An End of an Era

Where is Sidney Crosby?

It has been nearly two months since we last saw Sidney Crosby in front of 700,000 people at the Penguins’ Cup Parade in downtown Pittsburgh, where he thanked the fans for supporting him for the past two decades. It was heartfelt and there were no dry eyes in the city of Pittsburgh, but since then we have not seen or heard from the Pens’ former captain. Not even a sign of his Cup Day. No summer holiday pics, no Sid sightings, nothing. So where is Sidney Crosby?

He had plans in place for his retirement, had worked on it for months because he knew it was going to be hard. There were spreadsheets, set up with assistance from the Pens' health and development departments, changes in his exercise regime and his diet. He had contact details of universities and league officials, collated by Jen with notes about who they were, what they did and what they most likely expected from him. Information, plans and personnel, all of it at his fingertips, set up so that he could ease himself into his retirement once the Pens' training camp started.

It had helped during the summer break, knowing that there was a plan in place. And beyond the plan, he did the same things he would normally do in any other offseason break. There was golf, catching up with friends, and always, there was Nate.

Nate who came to watch his final game, Nate who stayed after the Cup celebration, Nate who he spent his Cup Day with. They went on golfing trips together, visited friends together and attended weddings. Nate, who pulled him out of bed and got him to pack because it was tradition for them to travel together to Europe. He packed his bags, called his mum, talked to her and cooed over Maverick who didn’t really care for him, just licked his own butt.

Then it was just the two of them for nearly a month, no distractions and no talks of the coming season. The two of them traveled across Europe incognito, knowing how to avoid the fans and the hint of recognition in people’s eyes. They kept away from the tourist traps, hiked in places that their teams and their insurers would have frowned upon, ate too many sweets and carbs -  something that Sid didn’t have to worry about anymore while Nate probably had a ten step plan on how to work it off before training started.

All the while the two of them ignored what had been changing and developing beneath the facade of their relationship for the past three years. It was still too soon, too many changes had happened to Sid these past few months, and he didn’t want to change what they had without thinking about it, without letting everything else in his life settle. And Nate understood, probably figured it out before he did because Nate, despite his media persona, kept the important things in his life tight to his chest, and didn’t reveal anything until he was ready to, damn the rest of the world.

Their last evening was spent at Sid’s Pittsburgh home, a quiet night, the two of them making a simple dinner, and then falling asleep on the couch together watching a history documentary. He woke up sometime in the early morning, eyes blurry and back in pain, but he didn’t want to move because Nate was wrapped around him, softly breathing against his neck and so very warm.

The path of vast open possibilities was terrifying.

He carefully untangled himself from Nate’s embrace - it took more strength than he ever thought he would need to not look back.

He went for a run.

When Nate left, Sid closed down his house - he cleared out his fridge and freezer, got professional cleaners to wrap everything up and left town. He let Kris and Geno know via text, called his mum to let her know that he wouldn't be heading back home just yet, made sure to get some facetime with Maverick.

Instead he headed to Montana.

He needed some time for himself, time to process everything that had happened, that would continue to happen. He arrived in the large lake house in the middle of nowhere he bought several years ago, glad that he contacted the cleaning and delivery service so that the place wasn’t covered in dust and that there was food in the fridge and cupboards.

He quietly moved back in and started figuring shit out - opened the spreadsheet full of his new exercise regime and diet,  tackled it as if it was a new season training regime. Less hours required for exercise - less cardio, more flexibility; strength maintenance rather than strength building. Cutting back on the amount of carbs he consumed, substituting it with more vegetables and fruits. Common sense things, information he already knew through a lifetime of being a professional athlete. But there was something soothing about having it laid out, black on white, no need to think, having to just follow the instructions. He was better than he was at the end of June, playoff skinny and so very tired. He had a month of good food and gentle exercise; he was more lean than he would normally be at this time of the year for over two decades now but it was fine. Things were going well, the new exercise regime kept him fit, the diet was created to suit his new lifestyle and he just needed to let himself get used to the new normal.

Two weeks later, on the eve of the Pittsburgh Penguins training camp, he ate a family sized pizza, two bowls of pasta and cracked open a carton of ice cream.

Okay, so, he wasn’t dealing as well as he thought.

Letang, eyebrow raised : I’m not really suited for the role. Geno is much better suited.

Malkin, walking behind Letang : Shut up! I too old! I have son and wife at home.

Letang, with an expression that seems to say 'told you so' : We are too old and have family.

Sid: Why aren’t either of you taking the captaincy?

Tanger: oh now you talk

Tanger: i thought we all silently agreed on the none communication

Tanger: till you finish your “Change is NOT too bad” freakout

G: Don’t blame Sid, he is a sensitive soul.

G: Also, Anna is not pleased with you Sidney. She thought you would have stayed in Pittsburgh longer. She had a whole party planned out.

Sid: G, say sorry to Anna for me.

Sid: And answer the question. Why aren’t either of you taking the captaincy? I thought it was a done deal.

Sid: And fuck you G, I don’t have a sensitive soul.

G: Oh, spoken to young Nathan lately?

Sid: I’m busy.

Tanger: there he goes. DENIAL.

Tanger: and i'm not taking it

G: Neither of us are. It's a young man’s game.

Tanger: shutup. I have years left.

Tanger: you r one step in the grave

G: My beautiful wife and son are waiting for me to join them for dinner.

Realistically, I don’t think they have anyone else that can take on the role. This is Geno’s last year, Tanger does NOT want the captaincy and Karlsson leaves the room every time the captain position gets mentioned.

From Sid: Congratulations, PO. You deserve it!

He went back to his exercise regime and diet.

He also decided to start communicating with his parents and friends again but still refused to leave his place in Montana. His mother sounded more and more worried every time he talked to her. He felt bad but he wasn’t ready to face the world until he had a better handle on his new life and himself.

In between the exercise, the navel gazing, and the difficult task of not checking up on NHL news, he looked at the online courses he needed to complete in order to get his history degree. He did think about going to the actual campus to complete his studies but the thought of all those kids taking photos of him, trying to figure out what the fuck he was doing there and sharing it online, ended that line of thought fairly fast.

Instead, he started to seriously plan out his hiking trips to the national parks in Montana, researching the best times and surveying the tracks on Google. It kept him busy for a solid two weeks and at the end of it, he had a solid plan to hit all eight national parks over a one-month period. He didn’t let himself think too deeply about how all his itinerary included a mysterious second person or that the trip was planned around the offseason, well after the playoffs. Europe was getting boring.

He was trying to figure out what new gear he needed when his phone started ringing. It was a Canadian phone number and he didn’t recognise it, but only a few people on this planet knew this number and they wouldn’t call him if it wasn’t important. He swiped to answer.

SIDNEY CROSBY CAPTAIN OF THE MEN’S WINTER OLYMPICS HOCKEY TEAM

Stars91 1h

I can’t believe that Sidney Crosby is going to his third Olympics while people like McJesus, Natedogg, and Bedard have NEVER been to one?!?!

Bennykenny 1h

What about the fact that Sidney Crosby is 38, turning 39 this year, and he is going to be captaining a group of kids ranging from 18 to 21.

Dupercannon100 1h

Can he even play?

ShiYon4eva 1h

Excuse you. The man won the fucking Stanley Cup 4 months ago.

Dupercannon100 1h

But has he been practicing?

Bennykenny 1h

I mean they announced it four months in advance of the Olympics, you would hope he is getting back into shape?

ShiYon4eva 1h

This pic is of him was a month ago. He looks pretty fit.

Stars91 1h

Holy moly, where did you get this pic? Nobody has spotted him since his day with the Cup?!

ShiYon4eva 1h

A friend in Montana.

Bennykenny 1h

MONTANA?!

He was one hundred percent too old for these kids. They were faster and so much more skilled than he was at their age. The only thing he had on them was the two decades of experience he had from playing in the NHL, which meant he was contributing and making them better. He could predict how the plays would unfold, knew the dirty tricks that no one taught you nowadays, and he was more physical and vicious than all of them put together - his hits faster and harder, with no remorse.

He also played smarter, getting to where he needed to before anyone else because he knew that was where the puck would end up. He tried to pull them together, taught them how to cheat at faceoffs without getting caught, made sure that their passes were connecting because you needed to already know where your team member was going to be through repetition of the same plays.

It was tough work. He ended each day with new bruises covering old ones, needing a massage and ice packs while the rest of the team went out to party. He wasn't about to invite himself along to a group of children and their idea of fun.

He had better survival instincts than that.

What he ended up doing was trying to do his reading for one of his online courses. 'Try' being the operative word. He let out an annoyed sigh, dumped his book on the floor and hit Geno’s number.

“G, they just don’t get tired and they're so stupid. Gods, were we ever that stupid?” Sid asked - not even bothering with a hello - as he wriggled around on his bed, trying to move the ice pack to the perfect spot down his sore back.

“We worse,” G said, face appearing in and out of the screen's frame as he moved around his house. Despite the movements, Sid could still see the grin set firmly on his face. He was wearing his thick black framed glasses that Sid knew for a fact were mostly cosmetic - Geno thought it made him look distinguished though Anna had confessed privately to Sid that she hated them with the passion of a thousand suns.

“Probably.” Sid slumped back onto his heap of pillows in defeat.

“You come back to Pittsburgh after, or Cole Harbour?” Geno asked, all casual and not at all in cahoots with his mother in their shared concern about the feeding and mental health of one Sidney Crosby. Just because you missed one or two, or maybe five calls with your mother, suddenly everyone was worried that you were running away from your life and jumping into the first opportunity that was the closest approximation of what your life used to be. Or something like that. His psychologist might have had a point.

“Maybe. I haven't decided yet,” Sid mumbled.

Geno made a thinking sound while he settled down; it looked like he was sitting on his favorite couch in his study.

“You speak to Nate?” Dammit, he should have known this was waiting for him.

“Not recently, he’s busy, you know. The Avs are trying to clinch a playoff spot early this year.”

A loud snort escaped Geno and he gave Sid a very pointed and judgemental look. It seemed unfair considering the upheaval in his life this past month.

“We all try to clinch spot early for playoffs. I have beautiful wife and kid, and hockey. We talk five times a week.”

He was right. They did talk five times a week, at least. But Sid needed to speak to someone, someone who had seen him at his worst and still liked him. Mostly. He didn’t want to worry Tanger because Kris' private time was precious with how little he got to talk to his wife and the kids during the season, and he was pretty sure he and EK were working through some shit.

“Things are just hard,” Sid sighed.

“Did he confess?” Geno’s eyebrows went up, a spark of delight in his eyes.

“What? No!” Sid pushed himself up and instantly regretted it as his back spasmed in pain. He fell back with a small painful moan.

“Too bad. Could have won bet,” Geno mumbled, no sympathy for the pain and life that was Sid’s.

“Oh my god, the guys are betting on my love life.” It wasn't even a question, Sid knew those assholes too well. He slowly and carefully propped himself up so he could at least see Geno’s face.

“You don’t have love life,” Geno waved with a hand, as if Sid’s sad state of life was something to be ignored.

“I could,” Sid whispered, slightly embarrassed. He had not been expecting the conversation to go this way.

“Do you?” Geno asked, a challenge in his voice, eyebrow lifted.

“Shut the fuck up.” Sid was very, very aware of how much of a love life he did not have. He couldn’t even jerk off with how draining the training was.

“I have to head to the restaurant now or Anna will have my balls. Talk later.” Geno waved in farewell.

“Bye G,” Sid said into the black screen, not really surprised G didn’t wait for his response. He wouldn’t want to make Anna wait either, and he didn’t even live with her.

The thing was, Geno wasn’t wrong, he didn’t have much of a love life. Hadn’t had much of anything after Kathy had ended it at the beginning of his last season. All he had wanted was to focus on the season, not wanting any distractions. And afterwards, all he had wanted to do was hide, to get his head on straight. But that meant there were a lot of things he wasn’t thinking about, actively pushing them out of his mind. He wasn’t proud of it, but Kathy was one of those things that he pushed out of his mind.

So yeah, he didn’t blame her for leaving him, it was hard to stick around for someone who made a whole retirement plan without any consideration for their partner. Hell, it was hard to stick around for someone who obviously had some not so friendly feelings for their same-sex friend, the same friend whom he spent every summer going on month-long trips with. So yeah, Sid took responsibility for the disintegration of their relationship completely.

The problem was that he continued not to think about the status of his relationship or his life in the months after his retirement. When Hockey Canada had called, he’d jumped at the chance and didn't think about the level of his fitness, the people in his life or any prior engagements. It was an opportunity for him to reclaim his love of hockey and to compete in the Olympics.

But the reality of it, being at camp with these kids who were hungry for the win, for the future of the NHL. It hammered in some truths he had always known but couldn’t emotionally accept.

He didn’t want to play professional hockey anymore.

He would always miss the game, the comradeship with his team but he didn’t miss the daily grind, the politics, the taste of defeat, the fucking media. He liked his culled down exercise regime without the constant running, he liked his diet that allowed for sweets, and he loved having the time to plan for his trips and reading long history textbooks because he had the time, and not having to stress about a loss or worry about winning the next game.

His aching muscles and joints, the constant questions from his very young team and the stupidity of youths were daily reminders that this was not for him anymore. Yeah, Sidney Crosby didn’t want to play in the NHL anymore, he definitely didn’t even want to play at the Olympics anymore. God, he didn’t want to play professional hockey anymore but he did want to play hockey.

Maybe a beer league. He winced at the thoughts of the headlines the hockey media would run with if they got wind of that.

The problem with coming to accept the reality of his retirement was that now he was so very aware of the Nate-shaped elephant in his life. Of the many ways he had been so careful about their communication, the way he kept on making plans for the future with consideration of the other man, the fact that he had been playing around with the idea of dropping everything and turning up at Nate’s front door in Colorado. Nate had offered his house to him whenever he felt like visiting, before he had headed to Colorado for the Avs training camp.

Nate, being a man who had been seeing a sports psychologist for years, and then an actual psychologist, could actually deal with many issues that plagued Sidney Crosby.

Nate had left the ball in his court.

Sidney Crosby was many things, but he wasn’t a coward and he had never not pursued what he wanted.

The Curious Case of Sidney Crosby’s SocMed Account

Wed 3 Dec 2025

Hello all! It has been just over two months since Sidney Crosby created his IG account, and beside his first post and a few posts about here and there, all we have been getting is photos. But NOT just any photo, but photos of a Penguins puck in all different types of scenarios.

Below is a list of some of the best pictures of the puck!

@SidneyCrosby87

[The puck sitting next to a slice of banana bread on a plate. The background shows a window to a well maintained garden with tall trees].

  • Unless you have been sleeping under a rock we all know about Sidney Crosby’s famous banana bread. Can we presume that the slice of banana bread here is homemade by Sidney Crosby himself?

[The puck on top of a towel in an exercise bag, the Canadian national hockey team’s logo on the side of the bag.]

  • Confirmation that Sidney Crosby took the puck with him to training camp for the olympics! This is one well-traveled puck.

[The puck on an empty seat, behind it is the practice rink for team Canada, there are players on the ice practicing.]

  • How cute, Sidney Crosby’s puck gets more personal interaction and access to team Canada than any other media personnel working on covering the game.

[The puck sitting on the window sill of what looks to be a bus, the window is covered in a thin layer of ice. Outside is a snow-covered landscape.]

  • Where are we going, Mr. Puck?!

He finally went back to Cole Harbour for Christmas, Geno wasn't exactly subtle in his push for him to go home and lessen some of the worry his mother was feeling. It was a whole week off, wrapping up just after New Years.

When he walked into his childhood home, his mother shouted in excitement and rushed towards him for a hug. He held her tightly and felt a flash of guilt for worrying her.

"I'm so glad you’re here," his mother said as she checked him over carefully, looking for any obvious signs of damage. "You’re too skinny."

It was good to be home.

It was some much needed time with his parents, and the pressure of trying not to let them know just how out of sorts he had felt was lessened by the presence of their extended family.

He couldn’t remember the last time he’d had the time to spend a proper Christmas with his family. Probably before he entered the league. It was fun, he got to help his mum prepare the shellfish and lobsters, and bake cookies and cakes. He played hockey with the whole extended family from both sides even as they insisted he be the backup goalie - he knew that, for the first time in the past decade, none of them wanted him on their team, and didn't actually want to see him play at all. Everybody was afraid he would pull a muscle or break a hip or something worse, and then they would lose all their hopes for an Olympic gold. He didn’t really argue the point, he had definitely felt the years this past month more than he had ever had, and honestly, Taylor was still the better goalie between the two of them.

So he ate, held the babies, kept the toddlers entertained, and at the end of the day was so very happy that he could hand them back to their parents that he treated himself with some nice homemade chocolate chip cookies and milk. He ignored the sharp looks from his relatives - it wasn’t cheating on his diet or anything, he had been told by the trainers and dieticians to put on some weight. And his mum wanted him to eat. So fuck the judgemental looks.

When he wasn’t entertaining the children and chatting about the Olympics with the adults, he was in the living room playing with Maverick. The troublemaker was definitely bigger, he really had to tell his mum to stop overfeeding him.

In between everything, he watched the Pens’ and the Avs’ games, wrote pages of notes by hand that he ended up taking pictures of, sending them to the guys and Nate.

Whenever he sent something to Nate, he looked around guiltily, making sure his mum didn’t suddenly appear out of nowhere with a list of questions about his relationship status. Honestly, his parents had been really good about the whole thing. Didn’t really ask about the end of his relationship with Kathy, just made sure he was okay, and didn’t really guilt him about not coming home after the Finals.

On Christmas eve he sent Christmas messages to all the people that mattered, taking forever to write one to Nate. He settled on a simple ‘Merry Christmas and good luck with the games’ , making a face of disgruntlement as he hit the ‘send’ button. Fine, he chickened out in saying anything deeper or more meaningful, he wasn’t a hundred percent there yet, and he didn’t want to fuck it up via text. Some things needed to be said face to face.

The whole week off meant he could also spend New Years with his family. It was a nice slow night. His parents were chatting away in the kitchen, the sounds of dishes being placed in the dishwasher, and the TV turned on in the background. He let the sounds wash over him, Maverick curled up on his lap, loudly purring, and he thought that maybe one day he could have this too.

Amiee Today at 11.03 AM

But seriously wtf is the deal with that puck? It goes everywhere with Sid. And I’m assuming that it is him that’s taking the pics and uploading them to his social?

Ms. Mooncake Today at 11:03 AM

No idea. All I know is that the puck is definitely a Pens puck. In the bus photo you can see the outline of the Pens logo.

Cat99 Today at 11:04 AM

I’d love to know WHY he is doing this?

Ms. Mooncake Today at 11:05 AM

Who knows, he is Sidney fucking Crosby, it could be for some crazy superstitious reason.

Amiee Today at 11:07 AM

I wonder if it holds any sentimental value, like a puck from his last Olympics or something.

Cat99 at 11:08 AM

Or maybe it is the puck from his last NHL game?

Ms. Mooncake Today at 11:08 AM

The LAST STANLEY CUP winning puck?!?!?!

The calm and peace of Christmas disappeared very fast as he returned to training.

And yes, so, okay. He could admit to himself that the ‘puck’ had become one of his ‘things’. No, not a damn superstition, he just liked to carry it around with him wherever he went, it felt like a piece of home, a sense of his team at his back.

It was comforting. And he felt like he played better when he had it with him.

So, okay. Fuck, maybe it was one of his ‘things’ now. Goddammit, he was doing so well with his routines, trying to not let them tie him up so much they became a hindrance. He was seeing someone for it, it was helping. But it looked like he was just switching his emotional support item.

Dammit. No wonder, Barbara, the lovely specialist he was seeing, had been blank-faced when he talked about the puck.

And now he was going to have to own up to the guys, Tanger was going to be insufferable.

Sid sighed in defeat and walked over to his bag to get the puck. Yes, so he needed it next to his bed like a child’s night light to fall asleep, but that nugget of information was staying between him and the damn puck.

The puck didn't miraculously turn up, and Sid honestly felt shit about it. He felt bad for sending that post out to the great beyond of the internet. But he panicked, and for several minutes it felt like he was eight again having his Montreal towel stolen, that he was eighteen again, and his World Juniors jersey had disappeared, and so many other fucking prized items disappearing on him, taken from him through the years. It had seemed as if all the hard work, the achievements and shared memories with his team were a dream. So he had reacted and posted the request for the return of his puck publicly.

God, Barbara was going to have so much to say about his mental state, how he dealt with stress, and how he had a problem with letting things go.

It was worse because now everyone knew what that puck was, and were now attributing all the emotions he must have attached to the puck, and how he couldn’t deal with the stress without the puck. The guys messaged him, and it was bearable because they knew him, they knew how this would affect him. But to the rest of the world it was just going to be another weird factoid about Sidney Patrick Crosby.

It was awkward as fuck to be confronted by the kids at morning skate. They were extra quiet, giving him space, but when that didn't seem to lift his mood, they started trying to do some sort of weird bro hug/cuddle thing that he had seen them enact with much more enthusiasm and uncaring of any potential physical hazard this past month. It was sort of cute, it reminded him of himself and his team through the years, these kids piled on top of each other like puppies, and while Sid did want to be in that pile he wasn’t going to intrude on their communal cuddle time.

The past month Sid had been trying to break the “too awed to be in Sidney Crosby’s presence” phase with different levels of success. But after ‘puckgate’ (he hated the name but Tanger had sent it to the group chat, and now that was what everyone was calling it), the kids were making the extra effort to involve him in their hugs and even their puppy pile. It was embarrassing, even though it was nice. And yeah, maybe Sid wasn't quite embarrassed enough to decline the invite.

(He was used to being surrounded by hockey players taller than him, but being wrapped up by tall skinny-limbed eighteen-year-olds was just that extra step too much. And Sid’s friends could never find out.)

He tried to be normal about everything - focused on the practices, talked to his family and friends, and tried to sleep. He complained to Geno and Kris about it, whined about the food to his mum, and tried to ignore the concern that started to creep into his loved ones' expressions as the shadows beneath his eyes became darker.

Nate sent videos of NHL game playlists and stupid cat memes, and he sent weird history facts, healthy baked goods recipes and game notes back.

He was dealing.

OMFG! Did you all see our sweet summer child POJ being interviewed and being asked about puckgate? His response was A+.

“I don’t understand why anyone would steal the puck. Especially when it is so important to Sid.”

ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO SID! He looked really sad and distressed about it too. I mean sure we joked about it, but like, it is really awful that anyone would steal the puck. Beyond the fact it was last season’s Stanley Cup winning puck, it was Sidney Crosby’s LAST NHL game puck. It just seems like a really shitty thing to do.

Also, Geno’s and Tanger’s death glares at anyone who even mentions the puck is honestly hilarious and heartwarming. They still care for their former captain!

SIDNEY CROSBY’S MENTAL STATE

Let’s park the discussions about his age and physical prowess today, let’s discuss the serious shit - can Sidney Crosby perform and lead the Canadian Olympics team in his current mental state? The whole “Puckgate” situation seems to have really shaken him. He definitely looks like he hasn’t been sleeping well, and we have all seen the pics and vids of the Team Canada players swarming him, and just sort of keeping him away from the media and photographers. I don’t want to say it, but is he, well, is he too fragile to be the captain of the Olympics team?

PenGuy66 1h

You didn’t have to say anything, asshole.

Giggly Goo 1h

I’m not trying to be an asshole, just trying to have a serious discussion about his mental health.

Peanutbutterfan 1h

Sidney Crosby has won 2 Olympics Gold medals, won the Stanley Cups 4 times, and the World twice. I don’t think you need to worry about his mental health.

Giggly Goo 1h

That was then, he is older and he didn’t have to be so dependent on the puck for some sort of emotional support

Bananabread87 1h

You do know that Sidney Crosby has always had his superstitions, right? P&J sandwiches, the evil that’s the jock strap and so much more.

Giggly Goo 1h

But he never lost them before. Losing the puck could be impacting his fragile mental health.

Crosdogg 1h

I think the only person with the fragile mental health is you. Sidney Crosby might be superstitious, but he has always brought his A game.

G: Nate organised it.

Tanger: when u going to make honest man out of him?

G: Put us out of misery. So much sex-eyes.

Tanger: G, no. We don’t talk about Sid’s sex life, ever. You promised.

G: It is natural! You prude.

Tanger: im NOT a prude

Tanger: i just dont want to hear it

Tanger: i had to hear it from you & him back in the day

Tanger: dont want to hear it again

Tanger: I DIDN’T want to

Tanger: i just don’t want to hear you or sid talk about your sex lives

Sid: OMFG! WE promised to never talk about it. We were young and dumb!

Tanger: gods the 2 of you were dumb

Sid: Shut up! Focus on your games. It is halfway through the season and you guys need to get points!

Sid: Wait - what’s this about Nate?

G: Surprise!

A LIST OF PLAYERS WHO SENT SIDNEY CROSBY A PUCK

Connor McDavid

Mitch Marner

Matthew Tkachuk (...)

Peanutbutterfan 1h

Reading the list. It honestly seems like every NHL team has sent a puck to Sidney Crosby. At least from our murderboarding.

Crosdogg OP 1h

Too bad not everyone is owning up to sending a puck to Sid.

PenGuy66 1h

Honestly speaking I just wanna know who sent him that old Pens puck. It’s like the chosen one. He’s taking it with him everywhere, and did you see how one of the staff is holding it whenever Sid can't?

Peanutbutterfan 1h

OMFG! I saw the vid! How he carefully handed it over to the staff member as he went to practice. And I swear the staff member looked like he had a very fragile baby in his hand or something.

Crosdogg OP 1h

I admit, it was hilarious. And I'm pretty sure it’s the same person who keeps watch over the puck now. Like how the Stanley Cup has its own people to take care of it. And no, I'm not saying the puck is as important as the Stanley Cup. It’s a comparison.

JustNed19 1h

I’m definitely super curious about who sent the new favorite puck to Sidney Crosby. It’s like he looked at all his available puck concubines and just decided that a battered old puck was his favorite. It’s hilarious. But also, I’m so excited about the Olympics!!! Curious how the Canadian team will do, and the wider ice rink has to be beneficial to Sidney Crosby, right?

He didn’t score goals, that wasn’t his job. He was the playmaker, he was passing the puck to his team members who would score the goals. They got through the preliminary round, three games in a week, winning against Finland, Latvia and USA, and then they were in the quarterfinals. One of the most successful Olympics he had ever participated in. He ignored what the media was saying, stopped communicating too much with his friends and family, only really talking to Nate, talking about hockey and making plans about when and how he was going to Colorado after the Olympics.

Through it all the battered puck stayed with him.

(“A Pens puck, bud?”

“Yeah. Well. Thought you might like it.”

“A fifteen-year-old Pens puck?”

“It’s slightly worrying that you know how old the puck is, bud .”

“Nate.”

“I got that puck the first time I saw you play live. You flipped it into the crowd and I got it. Had to fight off some kids for it.”

“Nate, you - “

“We’ll talk when you get to Colorado. Focus on your game. You can’t afford to disappoint Canada.”)

OMFG! Sidney Crosby leading the Canadian team to the Quarterfinals, 3 wins & no loss. Gods, he is sooooo hot, letting the curls grow, all that salt & pepper (ok way more pepper). And his playoff (Olympics?) beard!! Fuck all you naysayers!!!! He might not have scored, but anyone with eyes can tell he is playmaking his ass off, making sure he is where he needs to be to get to the puck, and then to get the puck to the right person so they can score. It’s honestly so fucking beautiful. And him flipping the puck into the air to get the play and so many little things is amazing. Oh! AND HE IS WINNING OUR FACEOFFS! In the past month the man has managed to pull this young team together, and they are so much the better for it - definitely more unhinged feralness, and they are for sure CHEATING (that interview with David, you could tell he didn’t want to say anything more about how Sid taught the team how to cheat at faceoffs but NOT saying the word). LOLS. Sidney Crosby, corrupting future Canadian NHLers.

And can we also take a moment and just appreciate how the whole fucking Canadian team is TALLER than our old man? And they go around hugging and lifting him like he weighs nothing! And SID LOVES IT! The ho (fondly).

#Sidney Crosby #Olympics 2026 #canadian team of baby ducklings #they fucked that old man

With what felt like the blink of an eye, they were in the quarterfinals, and it felt like he was reliving history as they ended up playing against Germany. Except this time there was no one on the roster that he had ever played with. The German team was so much more talented than what they were back in 2010, Draisaitl had led the way for the uptick of interest and skill in hockey in Germany, and now the players coming up were so much more skilled and dangerous.

The game was close, high scoring, and the reason they won was more due to luck than anything else - a lucky bounce and a goalie that was too far away to stop the rebound.

Everything against Latvia was easy, it felt like the team was working as one well-oiled machine and it was the sort of hockey where everything went your way. The puck met sticks, went where it was meant to go - any other day and the game might have been harder. But they were playing almost perfect, while Latvia was still fatigued and injured after their game against Finland.

They won, and Sid was screaming into the crush of bodies.

CANADA WINS SEMI-FINAL AGAINST LATVIA

JustNed19 10m

That was an almost flawless game. Wow, everything went right for the Canadian team. That's insane. And Sidney Crosby finally scored! And of course it was on his knees AND a backhander. It’s so stereotypically Sidney Crosby that I felt like it was almost toooo on the nose.

LayoftheSky 9m

That game was soooooo fast and smooth. Low scoring, but everything went right for the Canadian team. And yeah, Crosby was top form Crosby. Fucking amazing.

Crosdogg 9m

I’m in tears, dudes. That was one of the most perfect games I have ever seen. THANK YOU HOCKEY GODS FOR ALLOWING THIS TO HAPPEN WHILE I’M ALIVE!

They had a day off, resting, and then there was game review, game strategy, practice. Rinse and repeat. And in between, he was chatting with Nate about the Avs games - they were two months out from the end of the regular season, and the Avs were definitely going to the playoffs. Sid was upping the amount of game notes he sent to Nate (and the notes to Geno and Tanger, the Pens were going after a wild card spot but whether they got it or not was up in the air).

And of course they were going to be playing against the US in the finals. Real life had a habit of being like a movie, though when he had said this aloud years ago, Taylor had snorted and told him that no, it was just his life.

He looked through his itinerary - the one way ticket he had bought to Colorado - and all he could feel was relief that he had cleaned out his pantries and fridge at his place in Montana, and that Maverick was with his mum. He didn’t want to have to deal with travel plans with a cat - just the thought of trying to get Maverick to Colorado was stressful.

He was tired and he was hurting everywhere; age was truly a fucking bitch. While the rest of his team was sneaking around the floor drinking, partying and whatever eighteen- to twenty-year-olds got up to nowadays, all Sid wanted to do was sleep. He looked over to his bedside table to check that the puck was still where he’d left it the last time he’d checked - sitting next to the lamp and his half-read book about pirates in ancient China. Then he flipped the light switch and rolled over to sleep.

Tomorrow he had a game to play.

CANADA HOCKEY WINS GOLD

Sixteen years after he scored the Golden Goal, Sidney Crosby repeats history by scoring the game-winning goal against the United States of America.

It was as if history was repeating itself right in front of our eyes - Canada against the USA in the Olympics Gold Final, Sidney Crosby in red and white, captaining the Canadian team. Except Sidney Crosby is thirteen years older, and he is the oldest member of a team where he could legally be the father of every other player. There were doubts about him - his age, his level of physical fitness, his mental state, and so much more was scrutinized and questioned since it was announced back in November that he was to be the Captain of the Canadian Olympics hockey team.

Well, the naysayers were silenced as Sidney Crosby backhanded the puck to score the game-winning goal against the USA last night. It was a whirlwind of a year for the 38-year-old. He won his fourth Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins eight months ago, formally announcing his retirement from the NHL not a week after. Then silence from the man for five months until it was revealed that the man was to become the Canadian hockey team’s captain, and now he is a three time Olympic Gold Medalist.

From Sid: My itinerary - I’ll be in Colorado in 15 hours.

Replying to @adam.kane It could be him? I mean, that ass.

He got a taxi from the airport, had told Nate not to pick him up, to avoid any potential pictures and videos that might end up on the internet. Even though Sid was pretty sure that people had spotted him already. He pulled the hood of his coat around his head, glad that it was still cold here and wrapping himself up in layers wasn’t going to make himself stand out.

He tried not to think too hard about what he was doing on the flight to Denver. Just tried to get some sleep, and made lists of things that needed to be done when he got there.

Nate’s new house was further away from the rink, out of the city and built on a large plot of land with the mountain skyline as a backdrop in the distance. It was large and airy with a beautiful backyard. He’d never had the opportunity to visit the house but he knew what the place looked like. After all, he’d picked this house based on the photos Nate had sent him, had picked it over all the other houses that he’d been considering.

He almost stumbled on his way to the front door as his brain caught on.

Fuck, Nate bought a house for him, for them, and he didn’t fucking get it until now. God, he really could be fucking oblivious to anything that wasn’t hockey. He took a deep breath in front of the large wooden double door and didn't know what to do.

Before he could spiral into a panic attack the front door opened, and standing there was Nate in a navy sweater and sweatpants. He looked like he’d been sleeping, hair messy and a light imprint on his face. He looked perfect.

“Come in, it’s freezing,” Nate said as he wrapped his hand around his arm and pulled him inside the welcoming warmth of his home.

They didn’t talk much, Sid was jetlagged and barely able to stand from the time difference and the bone-deep tiredness of playing in the Olympics. Nate didn’t try to initiate a conversation with him either - he didn’t really mind, didn’t have anything pressing to tell the man. Nate was the only person Sid had kept in consistent contact with throughout the Olympics.

Nate guided him to the guest bedroom, hand warm against his back, and Sid let himself lean into it, soaking up Nate’s presence, and he felt something ease in his chest, a weight gone that he hadn’t even realized had been there for months.

Nate stopped at the doorway, watched Sid wander into the room and get settled, a soft smile on his face, arms loosely crossed in front of his chest. He was thick and solid, built to withstand the intensity of regular season hockey. Sid might have let his eyes linger over how his sweater clung to his biceps, maybe even a little longer than was polite. But well, he was here, and if he couldn’t even ogle the man he traveled over eighteen hours to see, then he could have just gone back to Montana.

“I didn’t think you’d actually come,” Nate said softly, bringing Sid back to reality.

“Honestly?” Sid huffed. “I didn’t think I would either.”

“What made you decide to come?” Nate asked, voice overly casual, trying not to come across as too eager.

“I realized this was the only place I wanted to be.”

The words seemed to have physically hit Nate as he let out a soft gasp. It took him a minute to collect himself, to find his voice again so he could speak. Sid waited, this was Nate's show now.

“Good night, Sid,” Nate smiled and walked away.

Sid let out a small laugh, Nate deserved to have the last words this time, he deserved a win for waiting for Sid to pull his shit together. He couldn't stop smiling as he prepared for bed. He was content but so very tired.

Pens fight for wildcard spot

Pens’ chances for the playoffs diminishing

Avs guaranteed playoff spot

Sid stayed in the guest bedroom the first month after he arrived at Nate’s. He spent a lot of time on phone calls with Pat, with Kyle, with his parents, and of course with Barbara. All of them, in a roundabout way, asked him what his future plans were. Sid told the truth -  well, mostly the truth - that he didn’t know. That he was going to take the rest of the year off while he figured out a proper plan, the one he had no longer applicable.

He took over cooking duties, got Nate’s meal plans from the trainers, and went at it while Nate was at the rink reviewing games, strategies and practicing, all so that they could make it into the playoffs and get the opportunity to win the Cup. They had a morning routine, breakfast together and when Nate left for the rink, he would clean up the mess from breakfast and start his exercise regime. He had lost more weight during the Olympics - he was the lightest, the leanest he had ever been in his professional career.

Afterwards, he spent his days answering emails and phone calls, conducting interviews and answering queries about the Olympics, the hockey season, and possible job opportunities. He felt as if he was more busy now than when he was still an NHL player, until he realized that, when he was still playing, he’d had Jen, and she had people that would coordinate his schedule.

Nate usually came back in the early afternoon for a nap and when he woke up, Sid and he would have a snack and then they would talk hockey. Sid’s loyalty would forever be the Pens first, but he wanted Nate to do good, he wanted Nate to win. He had never felt more happiness for another person winning the Cup than he did for Nate. That probably should have been a sign, honestly.

Then it was time for Sid to prepare for dinner. And the two of them would talk about everything but hockey - their families, Sid’s plans to get his remaining credits for his history degree, and just the daily grind of living. They laughed a lot, something that made Sid's whole being let out the breath he had been holding for too long. That was one of the most important facets of their relationship that he was afraid they could lose if they proceeded with this - their ability to make each other laugh.

It was a month of reprieve and peace, a chance for the two of them to live in the same space and navigate around each other, making sure their shared competitiveness didn't explode whatever they might build for the future. An opportunity to work through the fear of Sid not being able to handle Nate still playing hockey, and a chance for Nate to see if he could handle a Sid who no longer played hockey, to live with him 24/7. Because Sid was extremely aware of all the ways that people found him to be too much. It surprised both of them that they enjoyed each other’s presence enough to overlook the minor fights they had, and the small pointless competitions they had. Just because Sid wasn’t playing hockey professionally anymore did not mean he had a lobotomy and got himself a new spanking personality. He was and would always be a competitive asshole.

One night, a few days into Sid’s second month of stay, Nate touched him on the wrist and waited until Sid looked up.

“Come to bed with me?” Nate looked confident, but Sid could hear the soft worry in his voice, the way he was too intent on keeping eye contact, and the slight shaking of his hand on Sid’s wrist.

Sid smiled.

“I thought you'd never ask.”

The writing was on the wall, the Penguins weren't going to make it through the first series against New Jersey. They had traded away too many of their winning pieces, and so many of them were still recovering from their deep run to the Stanley Cup last season. The Devils were hungry, healthy and just that much faster. They lost the series in their home rink, Sid watching the game from a private box, cap on and staying out of the public eye as much as he could.

Watching his team lose sucked but they had made it to the playoffs in a season where all the pundits had written them off, relegating them to the bottom of the league. They could do this, and with the long off season, next year they could be better.

With Jen’s help he managed to stay hidden, away from the media until they were gone, and then waited until PO had finished talking to the team. He waited until he saw Geno walk slowly down the tunnels. Then he moved and wrapped his arms around Geno, pulling him into a tight hug.

SIDNEY CROSBY SITTING WITH THE AVS’ WAGS!! DID NATE FINALLY NAIL HIS MAN DOWN?!?! LOLOLOLOLOLS.

# sidney crosby #nathan mackinnon #hockey #nhl playoffs #sidnate

The roar of noise was deafening, and he was screaming and laughing, joy exploding from him as he hugged the people around him. All of them shared the joy of the Avs winning the Cup. It couldn’t be contained, a game seven win, and in front of their home fans. It was perfect and he couldn’t stop grinning.

He couldn’t say how he made it down to the ice with everyone else. But he was on the ice with the rest of the staff and families. He was hyper-aware of the cameras everywhere, filming him as he stood slightly to the side observing the exuberance and the uncontrollable joy that was everywhere. The cameras were definitely pointed in his direction, taking in his wide grin, his slightly wet eyes, and the fact he was wearing an Avs jersey with the number 29 on his back.

Let them see, he didn't care.

“Sid!” Nate had spotted him, somehow making it through the crush of people, and skating straight to him. Sid stepped off the carpet and onto the ice, taking steps towards Nate, but of course Nate reached him first, crashing into him, arms going around his waist and pulling him into a bone-crushing hug. He didn’t care, he hugged back equally as hard.

“You won! You fucking won!” He shouted into Nate’s ears and breathed him in, sweaty and disgusting, with the smell of ice. Sid was so fucking ecstatic for Nate, for him to be able to enjoy this feeling once more.

Nate pulled back slightly to look at him, to take him in, eyes wet and grin filling half of his face, and his face suddenly stuttered, changed, mouth gaping and eyes large. Sid followed his heated gaze and realized Nate was looking at the number 29 on his arms, at the Avs jersey he was wearing.

“You like it?” He smirked. He knew Nate, of course he fucking liked him wearing his colour and number for the world to see. He had thought about wearing his normal attire, but before he’d left the house he’d walked into Nate’s closet and took one of his jerseys - it just happened to be the one that Maverick liked to sleep on. He didn’t put it on until he was at the arena, debating with himself to the last minute, but the way Nate was struck silent by it meant he had made the right decision.

“I’m going to kiss you. If you don’t want this to be public, stop me now.” Nate moved his hands to the back of his head, fingers pushing through his too long hair, and Sid could step back and Nate would stop, plausible deniability for both of them. But Sid had chosen to wear the jersey, purposely took it from Nate’s closet, he was making a statement, his intent known. He leaned in and ignored the flashes of cameras as he kissed his boyfriend on the ice.

He was Sidney fucking Crosby. He could do anything he wanted.

Colorado Avalanche is your 2026-27 Stanley Cup Winner. Also a historical moment for lgbtqa+ communities. @SidneyCrosby87 and @Mackinnon29 are great hockey players and braver people.

The Avs won the Cup, I was so HAPPY. Then I see Sidney Crosby screaming in joy at the Avs winning, WEARING NATE’S JERSEY. And then the next time I see him he’s on the ice, smiling and just happy. AND THEN NATE IS FLYING TOWARDS HIM. There is hugging, eye contact, talking, and then THEY ARE FUCKING MAKING OUT IN FRONT OF GOD AND HOCKEY FANS. And OMFG! I hope this kills Gary Bettman.

BUT HOLY SHIT SIDNEY CROSBY FUCKING KISSED NATHAN MACKINNON AT THE STANLEY CUP FINAL! IS THIS FANFIC OR REAL LIFE?!

#what even is real life? #sidney crosby #nathan mackinnon #they be fucking your honour #sidnate #2026 stanley cup final

Sidney Crosby had one of the most insane years ever! 12 months ago he won his 4th Stanley Cup, then he retired, then he played for the Canadian Olympics team and WON GOLD, and now he’s kissing his Stanley Cup-winning boyfriend.

Holy shit. You’re right. What a fucking year.

[PICTURE of a bed. A shirtless Nate is in the middle, on his left is a sleeping shirtless Sidney Crosby with blankets pulled up to his waist, and to his right is the Stanley Cup with a cat curled up in it.] Minimum requirements in order to get @SidneyCrosby87 in bed with you - win the Stanley Cup. Twice.
