Surely, it was accidental.
The kiss they had. Or was it even a kiss? The soft brush of their lips when Langa had tackled him down after winning the beef with Adam, did it count? Did Langa really steal Reki’s first kiss?
Reki had been pondering this too much lately. Even with Langa flashing striking moves in front of him with his skateboard, he couldn’t fully focus other than his thoughts. He’s not sure but somehow he found it a bit of a big deal. Langa.. My first kiss.. He wondered.
‘You were saying, Reki?’
Reki instantly jumped from his statement, face red and uneasy. Did he say it that loud?
Reki shook his head in response to Langa who took a break from skating. ‘Nothing. Nothing. Haha. Did I say something? What did you hear? Obviously nothing. Nothing to worry about,’ He laughed nervously, his fingers fidgeting his jacket. He was sweating and his face felt warm. He hoped it was from the sun.
Langa raised a brow and walked towards Reki who was sitting on the park bench, constantly shifting. Unaware that his close figure made Reki sink in his seat, he rummaged through his duffel bag beside him, trying to find his water bottle.
‘Reki can I have some of your water? I think I forgot to bring my bottle.’ He turned to Reki with a tinge of embarrassment, half preparing for his teasing remarks such as — Tsk tsk tsk. You’re not even old yet and you already forget so easily, Langa. Instead, Reki froze, gaping at him, his mind in chaos. It seemed like his brain activated panic mode.
Langa could hear him whisper under his breath but it was inaudible. What was up with him today?
‘Hey, I’ll just head to a nearby store and buy—’
‘Yes! I mean, you can borrow my bottle. Hold on.’ Reki blurted, turning side to side for his bag. He grabbed his bottle inside and threw it to Langa who catched it by reflex.
Langa doused himself with the lukewarm drink whereas Reki gaped at his lips. Small streams of water from his half open mouth trickled down to his jaw. He wanted to cup those rosy cheeks of his with Reki’s own hands and…
Langa took a loud sigh as he closed the lid, finally noticing the gaze from Reki.
‘Ah sorry, Reki. There’s still some left here that you can have.’
Reki shook himself out of his stupid thoughts. ‘Oh, no. I’m not thirsty. It’s all right,’ he denied, receiving the bottle from Langa’s outstretched arm. They’re fingers merely grazed against each other but both felt a small static between them.
After a moment of hesitation, Langa offered Reki to skate with him.
In a split second, Reki’s uneasiness was washed over by excitement. He followed a chuckle, ‘Pfft. Of course, why else would we be here?’ From the surface, it was like the usual jokes Reki would comment on. Yet this one seemed a little more genuine. He really had forgotten why they were here in the skating park.
Langa grinned at his response, his beam more pronounced than ever due to the rays of the setting sun that peeked at the edges of his figure.
Reki really didn’t know how contagious his smile was to Langa, and neither did he.
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
They skated carelessly and freely, the adrenaline bursting inside of them. Each swift turn and jump of their skateboard made their heart race as they travelled from ramps to railings and more. The sun had fully set, giving space to the full moon and stars blanket the sky.
Langa’s vision blurred from the constant motion and yet still couldn’t get his eyes off of him. Seeing Reki explode with joy, his passionate smile was as big as ever. Heart racing still, he let the mood take over him and charged towards Reki with open arms and threw himself to him.
Reki choked in shock from again getting pinned to the ground by Langa.
They could feel each other’s heavy breathing. Neither had the intent to move because their gazes seemed to had magnets that kept pulling them closer. Opposites really do attract after all.
They continued to near in, the air tense around them. Inches apart, Langa suddenly saw fear flash in Reki’s eyes. His heart dropped. He messed up.
He abruptly pulled himself away, catching himself before full stumbling from behind.
‘I-I’m sorry,’ Langa croaked, breath short from worry. He really pushed it too far this time. Farther than the last. He was barely able to look at Reki in the eye who stayed rigid in his position, startled from his sudden switch of reaction.
Voice uneven, Langa continued to drop frantic statements about how he never intended to make Reki feel uncomfortable from him, how he knew how out of line his actions were, how he didn’t mean the kiss—
‘So it was accidental,’ Reki cut off, face drooped from realization.
‘Yes. I’m sorry, Reki. I know. I never should’ve considered it in the first place,’ he uttered quickly right before sobs completely filled his throat. He could see him back away and head turning, brows furrowed above his troubled eyes.
‘Reki, please—’
‘Stop,’ Reki ordered. A sharp blow of the wind seemed to stab right through them, leaving Langa stunned.
‘I’m scared. Not because of you. But because of me,’ he admitted.
Langa let out a nervous chuckle, trying to wrap his mind around what Reki’s trying to say. ‘W-what? Reki, what are you—’
‘I’m scared that I might kiss you.’ Reki winced, biting his tounge. There. He finally said it.
Reki wanted to hold himself back from saying more but it was too late to make a stop now. He could feel hot temperature rise to his head, making him feel light. At the same time, he could feel the tension straining him down.
He gave one last remorseful look at Langa and murmured, ‘The kiss didn’t mean anything to you, but it means something to me.'
Realizing how awful he sounded as he confessed, Reki without a doubt, buried his steaming face behind his knees and made muffled curses.
Reki held his breath as he endured the long silence with Langa gawking at him, speechless. He tightened his jaw and braced himself from any upcoming insult or scornful reactions.
He’s gonna hate me.
No. He does hate me.
I hate myself too.
‘I’m sorry.’ Reki muttered between sniffles, lifting his head slightly to let Langa meet his now teary eyes.
Disbelief and shock finally subdued as Langa found his own voice. He leaned towards Reki as he called his name softly.
‘Reki.’
No response. Reki stayed completely still.
‘I don’t hate you.’
Reki’s head perked, surprised.
‘What?’
‘I love you too.’
Without another moment wasted, Langa closed the gap between their lips. Reki’s heart was pounding, as if attempting to push out all the blues and worries, making relief settle instead.
Langa felt Reki’s rough hands carress his face as he was being pulled closer to him, now kissing back.
Now this for sure was not accidental.
