Chapter Text
Carina stood outside Station 19, anticipation mixed with a little nervousness churning inside her. It was her first day as a member of Station 19. She had wanted a break from working at the hospital, and since Station 19's PRT had advertised needing a new member, preferably someone with medical knowledge, Carina saw it as the perfect opportunity. Treating patients on scene would be more challenging than her regular OBGYN work, but she felt up for it.
There was another reason she jumped at the job, her wife happened to be the Captain at Station 19. Maya had been fully supportive of Carina joining her team. She even noted it would be nice to see her wife around more often. The crew knew Maya was married, though with Maya stingy on personal details, they remained unaware of her wife's name or profession.
Originally, Maya figured she would introduce Carina as both the new team member and her spouse. But Carina had another idea. She proposed keeping their marriage a secret for a while, seeing it as a chance to spice things up and have fun messing with the crew.
So, Carina took a steadying breath and headed inside to her first day at 19. She went inside the station and found two firefighters chatting by the reception.
"Oh, hello there, can we help you?" The lady firefighter asked when she noticed Carina.
"Yes, I'm Dr. Carina Deluca, I'm the new member for the PRT" Carina introduced herself.
"Carina, nice to meet you. I'm Vic and this is Travis. Welcome to Station 19."
Just then Maya stepped out of her office and noticed Carina. She kept back the smile that she always has whenever she saw her wife and reminded herself of the little game Carina wanted them to play.
"Dr. Deluca, glad to have you here. Welcome to Station 19." She said professionally.
Carina smiled and tried her best to keep it as a "meeting my boss" smile instead of the "seeing my wife in uniform" smile. "Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of Station 19 Captain Bishop, I look forward to working here."
"Certainly, I've got your uniforms in my office."
Carina followed Maya inside her office and took a moment to look around. The space was well organized as she expected from her wife. She had never been here before which was a shame as she briefly thought of the office sex they could have.
"So here you go, 3 uniforms since I'm sure you'll be dealing with a lot of bodily fluids and will need to change often." Maya told Carina, breaking her train of thought that was going down a dangerous path.
"Thank you, Captain Bishop," Carina said with a smile.
Maya chuckled and whispered to Carina. "Are we really doing this, keeping a secret from the team?"
"I see no harm in it and it will be fun so yes, we are really doing this."
Maya nodded, liking the idea and wondering how far they would get before either one of them told the team or got caught before. "Okay, how about I have Vic give you a tour of the station and show the locker room where you can get changed. We have line up in 10 minutes so you can get ready for that."
Maya called Vic and asked her to show Carina around.
10 minutes later, everyone stood in the barn ready for line up. Carina smiled at her new teammates and took her position next to Ben who she knew from Grey Sloan.
Maya stood in front and began addressing them. "Everyone, meet out new member, Dr. Carina Deluca, she'll be working with Warren on the PRT as I've mentioned."
"Ciao everyone." Carina greeted them and they in turn introduced themselves. With introductions out of the way, Maya assigned them their duties for the day.
Ben showed Carina the PRT and told her how he worked. She was excited at the prospect of being right at the forefront of things, treating patients on the scene and also seeing how firefighters worked. Carina also relished the prospect of seeing her wife take charge.
Carina's first day was a whirlwind and they found themselves with back-to-back calls for the first half of their shift before things calmed down later on. Travis and Vic made a quick dinner and the team congregated to eat in the beneary. Carina was the center of attention as they got to know her.
"Well, I'm from Sicily in Italy. That's where I grew up with my family and I only came here a few years ago." Carina told them.
"And how are you finding it here as compared to your hometown?" Jack asked with interest.
"Well Seattle is not bad, there's some charm to it but when it comes to the food, you Americans don't know proper food. Sicilian cuisine is a culinary delight with amazing dishes."
"So, no pineapple on Pizza then?" Travis asked and received a very serious glare in response.
"That's a crime and I'm unwilling to debate it." Carina said sternly. Maya chuckled knowing how far Carina can get in the debate of America's food crimes.
Travis raised his hands up in surrender. "Got it, on to something better. Are you single, in a relationship or married?"
"Happily married, my wife is a ... doctor" She almost said firefighter but that would have been too close and she watched Maya bite her lip and look down at her food, probably to stifle her laughter.
"You're a doctor, married to a doctor, that's cool. Our Captain is married to a doctor too. Italian just like you" Vic exclaimed.
"Really?" Carina asked, feigning ignorance.
"Yeah, Cap isn't overly chatty about her wife or her private life in general, so we know very little about her wife," Jack told her.
"I like keeping my private life separate from my work life, there's no need for you all to know everything about my wife," Maya told them though soon enough as they got to know Carina, they would know her wife well enough.
"I respect that, though I'm sure you could spare a few more details for the people you see quite a lot," Carina said with a glint in her eye.
Maya knew that Carina was teasing her, playing with fire. "Well, my wife is gorgeous, she's a great cook and is smart."
"I feel like those things are a given, we need a little more than that Cap," Andy said as they all agreed.
Maya chuckled and stood up, placing her plate in the sink. "That's all you're getting from me." She told them and headed to her office. The team resumed chatting, getting to know Carina more.
They got a few more calls after that and their shift ended with B shift coming in. Carina headed to Maya's office, under the guise of checking in with her Captain for her first day. She found Maya packing up. Maya looked up and smiled at Carina.
"Dr. Deluca, how was your first shift?" she asked professionally seeing as the door was open and the others were still walking out.
"It was great, busy but I quite enjoyed the rush of it all. The team was very welcoming too."
"I'm glad to hear that. You fit right in with us and we're glad to have you, Warren especially."
Carina quickly checked that all of A-shift had headed out before closing the door and giving Maya a long-awaited kiss.
"I've been wanting to do that all shift," Carina admits with a smile.
Maya groans, "God, me too. This is going to be torture, isn't it?"
"Si, the good kind," Carina assures, confident that they can keep up the rouse. "I'm sure we can last a little while with our secret."
Maya pulls her wife into another searing kiss, already addicted to the thrilling deception. She was initially hesitant about hiding their marriage from the team, but Carina's excitement proves contagious. If stealing moments and inside jokes is the name of the game, Maya is quickly on board.
"Just promise me one thing?" Maya murmurs against pliant lips.
"Hmm?"
"We'll call this off the second it stops being fun for both of us?"
Carina smiles, touched by her wife's concern even in this scheme she orchestrated. "Deal," she whispers, before fusing their mouths once more.
