Work Text:

Shidou places a camera in his hands. It’s clearly one of those ‘one time use’ type deals, with film limited and quality in the gutter. Rin almost wants to scoff, because if Shidou was going to bait him into taking photos, this was the worst way to go about it.

But Rin isn’t fussy, not out in public at least. In a plane with prying eyes and ears, he simply glances over to Shidou with a raise of his brow.

“What’s this for?”

Shidou gives him a smile, the same shit eating one he always does, like he was certain Rin was going to ask him this from the moment he placed the dodgy camera in his hands.

“We’re travelling the world, we need to take photos!”

And there’s a million ways Rin could retaliate, that there’s a million ways they could go with photo taking that didn’t involve some shitty camera that clearly won’t take photos worthy of remembering.

Instead, he gives a strange look as he places his eye to the viewerhole, getting Shidou into view. Shidou gives a stupid pose, and Rin clicks a photo.

He’ll get rid of the film quickly, or maybe not at all, and then he won’t have to worry about this stupid camera.

__________

“Rin, look!”

Shidou’s boots pad against the snow as he runs over to the fountain, water so cold it’s a surprise it isn’t frozen over. Rin follows, his own boots sounding against the snowy trail.

Shidou looks into the depths of the water, the multiple coins which littered the stone floors— the many wishes casted in the same place they stood.

Shidou digs through his pockets, scavenging for a coin. Rin looks at him, the peeking of his tongue through his lips, the determination in his eyes, the need to make his small dent of a mark in the world of the fountain.

Rin reaches for the camera shoved deep into his pocket, and before he knows it, he takes a photo. A soft click sounds, and Shidou finds a coin as the shutter goes off.

He gives a glance, a smile on his lips.

“What was that for?”

Rin really doesn’t know. What was it for? Was it because Shidou looked so beautiful amidst the flakey snow, with his idiotic smile and jitted hair? With his earmuffs struggling to stay in place, scarf so big it almost touches his lips?

Rin doesn’t know, and he waves his hand in dismissal.

“Did you find a coin?”

That deters Shidou’s mind from it, and he shows the quarter he found in the depths of his pockets. A deer looks back at him, shining on the silver.

Shidou closes his eyes, taking in a breath and chucking his coin into the water, small droplets splattering onto his coat as the coin sunk to the bottom.

Rin watches as it falls, voice quiet as he asks,

“What did you wish for?”

And Shidou doesn’t answer, because wishes don’t come true if you say them aloud.

__________

The bus hits a turn as Shidou falls onto his shoulder, leaning against him with his eyes fluttered shut.

Rin wants to pipe up to argue that he shouldn’t be this nonchalant in a foreign country, but there’s no one on the bus but them and a girl who sits at the back, eyes closed and leaning against the window.

They pass snowy landscapes, sky already dark even at 5PM. He watches the cars and trees flick by as he hears the automated voice call out stop after stop, the bright yellow sign spelling out the destinations for them.

Shidou feels warm, warm against him, even through their multiple layers of clothing. He can feel Shidou’s gentle breaths and the warmth of his skin.

Rin looks at him, the flutter of his lashes and the rise and fall of his chest.

He inches for the camera in his pocket, because he’s been catching himself bringing it out in simple moments like these— important enough to warrant a photo, mundane enough to warrant a shitty one.

He clicks the photo, not bothering to position his camera right.

Shidou looks beautiful regardless, and future Rin who looks at these photos will think the same.

Rin slips the camera back into his pocket, and their stop is called out a few moments later.

He nudged Shidou’s shoulder, a gentle movement as Shidou groans, glancing up at Rin with a scrunch of his face.

Rin’s gaze softens,

“It’s our stop,”

He whispers, gentle and loving.

Shidou gives a raspy hum, and Rin helps him up and off the bus, watching Shidou shiver at the breeze.

__________

“Oi! RinRin!”

Shidou beacons Rin over, pointing to the blind boxes of themselves.

There’s two boxes left, BlueLock themed miniature figurines which can be displayed or clipped to one’s bag via a special case.

“We should get them!” He says, excited and childish.

His smile is beautiful, that’s what Rin thinks. He nods before he can help himself, and Shidou already had them both in his hand.

He glances at the matching cases for every member, and he chooses their cases respectively.

Rin gives a questioning glance, and Shidou gives a shrug with a smile.

“I have a good feeling!”

They pay at the register, and the lady does a double take before nervously giving them their items, bidding them a cheerful goodbye.

Shidou opens his box the minute he’s out of the store, bag in one arm and box in his hands.

He opens it up, and he gives a pose of victory as he pulls out a miniture Rin.

He pulls out the Shidou themed clip on bag he’d gotten, placing his tiny Rin inside.

“Now you’re damned to being surrounded by me forever”

Rin scoffs, a mock of disapproval, but he fights the warm feeling in his chest.

He takes the camera out of his pocket, and Shidou grins and poses with his miniature Rin, tongue stuck out.

Rin opens his box to find Isagi, grimacing as he shoves the box back into their bag. Shidou cackles, and they go on the hunt to find another store with blind boxes.

(After a long search, Rin gets his Shidou, and he couldn’t be happier.)

__________

The two of them step into the home, and Rin’s aunt gives them a warm smile as she leaves them to take off their coats.

Shidou looks nervous, uncharacteristic for a guy like him, and Rin almost wants to laugh.

“Why do you look so scared?”

Shidou grumbles, quiet and only to be heard by Rin.

“How couldn’t I be? This is my first time meeting anyfamily of yours—!”

Shidou looks stressed, more than he should be, and Rin grins.

He whips out the camera quick, and clicks a photo before Shidou object. Shidou hits his chest in anger as Rin puts the camera away and hangs his coat up.

“What was that for—?!”

Shidou’s silenced as Rin gives him a gentle kiss to the lips, an act of affection he doesn’t pull often. Shidou melts into it, easier than he’d like to admit, and Rin looks at him with a warm gaze he only saved for him.

“You’ll be fine, my aunt couldn’t care less.”

Shidou gives a scoff,

“So she doesn’t care about her darling nieces boyfriend?”

Rin shrugs,

“Not really..”

Shidou sighs, giving Rin a final punch to the chest as he walks off,

“You should’ve told me that sooner!”

__________

Shidou’s eyes glimmer in wonder, trailing over the cityscape as the slush splatters under his boots.

“You look like you’ve never seen a city before,”

Rin says, amused at Shidou’s seeming curiousity for everything.

“Can you blame me? Toronto is different from Shibuya!”

“Not really…”

Shidou jutts his tongue out,

“You only say that because you visit your aunt here all the time!”

Rin sighs, because there’s no fighting Shidou.

They reach the station, descending down the steps into the underground. There are faded posters that paint the walls, stains on the stairs and chipping on the tile bricks, but weirdly enough, it feels homely than dirty.

Shidou dumps his coins into the fare box and passes through the gates, walking over to a poster and reading the text on delays and construction of all things.

Rin quietly slips the camera out of his pocket, and clicks a photo.

Shidou looks beautiful, he always does.

Rin reaches him, and Shidou is snapped out of focus as he smiles, pulling Rin down to the subway.

__________

Shidou lays in bed, a wet cloth on his head and eyes squeezed shut.

He’s wrapped in blankets and Rin sits next to him, watching over him with a worried gaze.

Maybe he should’ve ushered Shidou to cover up more, prevent him from getting sick on their last day.

Rin sighs softly, watching over the man he holds as his beloved. He glances at his coat, hung up on the hooks.

He gets up, slipping the camera out of the pockets and taking a final photo of Shidou, a smile on his face as he captures their final moment.

Shidou stirs in his sleep, glancing over to Rin with a sorry look in his eyes.

“Sorry for ruining our last day,” he croaks, breath laboured as he closes his eyes once more, “and our trip…”

Rin watches him, and he places a gentle hand to his blanketed arm.

“Don’t worry, it was perfect.”
