Bocchi was about to fall asleep when she felt Nijika’s phone vibrate.
Ryo grumbled something indecipherable, while Nijika disconnected from their cuddlepile with a yawn. “Yeah, yeah, you’re sleepy, I get it.”
Through half-lidded eyes, Bocchi watched Nijika take out her phone as Ryo buried her face in Bocchi’s neck.
“It’s Ikuyo,” Nijika said. “She apologizes for being late, it’s because she…” Nijika trailed off, staring at the screen in disbelief, before raising her hand to her forehead and sighing. “Oh my god.”
Before Bocchi could ask what the problem was, Ryo suddenly barked an uncharacteristically loud laugh, Bocchi flinching hard because of the sudden noise. “Wh-Wh-What?” she asked, seeing that Ryo was looking at her phone too from the corner of her eye. “Wh-What did she write?”
Ryo was full-on grinning. “She’s late because she can’t find her phone.”
Bocchi’s eyes shot open. “What?! That’s horrible! So many of our photos are on there!”
Silence. Nijika just stared at her like she’d lost it, while Ryo stifled a snort.
“Wh-What?” Bocchi asked after a moment, confused. “It’s important, isn’t it?”
“Hitori,” Nijika slowly said, “think about it for a moment. How is Ikuyo texting us this?”
Bocchi only looked more puzzled. “W-Well, obviously, with her…”
She paused. Ryo looked about ready to burst out laughing.
“Oh.”
As soon as it had clicked, Bocchi turned around and buried her face in her pillow to loudly groan into it, face feeling hotter than ever. Nijika tried comforting her by stroking her back, while Ryo still tried to hold in the laughter.
“I think we’re all a little tired,” Nijika said, a hint of amusement in her voice that honestly felt worse to Bocchi than Ryo’s giggling. “I’ll just write Ikuyo back and then we’ll go to bed, alright?”
Bocchi mumbled a yes into her pillow. Hopefully she could quickly fall asleep and forget all about this by tomorrow.
