Chapter Text
When Izuku told his mother and adoptive father that he would never love any princess they presented to him, he thought that would be the end of their scheme to set him up with the eligible heiresses of the surrounding kingdoms.
And, in a way, it was. They did stop presenting him with princesses to marry. Instead, they had brought him to breakfast with a prince.
He supposes he should be grateful that they are so open-minded, but he can’t help but feel…confused. Izuku knew his mother, Queen Inko, and his new father, The King All Might, were rather progressive when it came to royal rulers.
In fact, most of their cohorts found them to be too progressive. If it weren’t for All Might’s, well, all might, their little kingdom of Yuuei would hardly have any allies or trading partners at all.
Their most staunch opposition in all that they tried to accomplish was the Bakugo Kingdom. Traditionalist and strong to their core. They hardly ever strayed from the book on being a perfect royal family and the way they ran their country was akin to the way one might run a well-armored machine.
Which is why, for the life of him, Izuku couldn’t figure out why he was sat across from the Bakugo Crowned Prince. He could not fathom why he was staring into angry, ruby eyes.
His parents prattled on about his accomplishments beside him, but Izuku could hardly hear a word. This situation was just too strange.
“All that there is for us to say is that our Crown Prince is amendable to this arrangement if yours is, King Toshinori.”
Izuku felt his neck crack with the force he used to whip his head towards the Bakugo King, Masaru. Known for being a quiet but lethal ruler, Izuku had never heard the man speak before. As if that wasn’t enough of a shock, his words were damn-near incomprehensible.
What could he possibly mean? They couldn’t seriously be considering joining two princes together in marriage. Especially not with the Crown Prince of Bakugo, a man highly acclaimed as the most eligible and desired bachelor in the Twelve Great Kingdoms. Even more especially about the notion that said Crowned Prince had already agreed.
To marriage. With Izuku.
Izuku, who was a “Crown Prince” only because All Might fell in love with his peasant mother. A man who had only become a prince when he was 10 years old. A man who had no breeding and a late start on a royal upbringing. There was absolutely no possible way that this was what they were talking about.
Except they were. And they were all looking at Izuku expectantly. Like they were actually giving him the choice to say no to the most lucrative alliance that could ever be offered to his parents—to his kingdom.
Izuku took a deep breath, still flabbergasted at the words he could feel forming in his own throat. “I am amendable to the arrangement as well.”
He’d been sure that was the answer everyone had wanted him to say, so imagine Izuku’s shock when he felt a nice gentle breeze from the force of everyone snapping their disbelieving countenances in his direction. Well, everyone except the Bakugo Crown Prince, whose ruby eyes had not left him once throughout the whole ordeal.
“Really?” both Queens asked in tandem. His mother’s tone disbelieving, Queen Mitsuki’s that of relief.
Yet again, Izuku was shocked by King Masaru speaking, though this time his voice sound hurried.
“Excellent! Excellent! We have a marriage contract here today, so, if we all sign now, then the deal with be done and we can host a ceremony in due time. We will start the preparations as soon as we return to our homeland!”
Seemingly out of nowhere, a quill and contract apparated in front of Izuku’s face. It seemed like the Bakugo’s didn’t want to leave anything up to chance…or Izuku’s fog of confusion lifting long enough for him to realize what he’d just agreed to.
Still feeling the blood red gaze from his newly betrothed, Izuku took the quill and signed his name. He had no idea what lay in store for him.
