Work Text:
He had been excited by Felix's words.
“Get dressed, birthday boy, today we're going for a walk.”
"Where to?"
“It's a surprise,” Oliver smiles. “Wear something nice, I'll wait for you downstairs.”
The trip had started well, Félix was driving his jeep along the road that left the farm to join the rest of the state highways, both happy, both singing to the rhythm of Mr. Brightside at the top of his lungs, Oliver couldn't be happier, next to the Alpha who had done so much for him.
The Alpha he could trust, despite everything.
Oliver looked back at the road, asking Felix once again where they were going and if it was far away, but Felix didn't answer, he continued insisting that it was a surprise.
But Oliver's enthusiasm began to diminish when he saw that Felix was taking streets strangely familiar to him. If he didn't know Felix too well, he would say that the Alpha was taking him towards…
A lump formed in his throat when the sign on the side of the road told him where they were going.
Prescot.
“Felix What-…?”
“Ollie, it's okay, don't worry.”
“No, Félix, tell me we are not…”
“Okay, Ollie, look, listen, your father is calling…” And Oliver feels faint, Felix tries to calm him down when he sees that there is a certain bitter smell coming from Oliver. “He said he was worried, Oliver, he says you haven't answered his calls.”
“What did you do, Felix?” But the Alfa does not respond, Félix continues driving despite Oliver's pleas for him to stop, reverse and go back the way they came "Please, no" But Félix does not listen.
They enter a decent neighborhood, with picturesque and well-kept houses, Félix looks at the place strangely, knowing only Oliver's words, he had imagined a seedy neighborhood, with criminals in the streets and vandalized buildings, nothing was like that, Felix gave Oliver a slight glance, the Omega next to him seemed fearful, biting his nails, emanating that smell of anguish that was beginning to make him nervous, no longer so sure that going to his friend's father's house was a good idea.
They arrived at a house, it was not that different from the others, but it looked a little neglected, it needed paint and the pots that were on the porch had already withered flowers. Felix got out of the jeep taking a few steps towards the house, Oliver did not follow him immediately, still in the car, with teary blue eyes, silently begging for them to get out of there.
But seeing that Félix was not going to listen to him, Oliver got out of the jeep, closed the door with much more force than necessary and walked without stopping, if Félix wanted to do what he wanted, well, Oliver would give him what he wanted.
The wood creaked under his feet and Oliver wasted no time in knocking on the door, although he inwardly prayed that his father was gone, that he had gone off to do whatever it was he did when he usually disappeared. He let out a light anguished sigh when he heard the lock unlock and his father appear at the door.
“Oliver?” The man was an Alpha, taller than Oliver, and it seemed like he had been working on something because the man gave off a rather noticeable smell of sweat. “Until you decided to show up, kid.” There was no joy in his tone, nor the concern that Felix had heard through the phone while he had spoken to him. “And you must be Felix, right?” The man extended his hand to him to greet him, Félix did not deny the greeting, more out of politeness than out of true pleasure. “I hope this outcast hasn't caused you any problems” he said, pointing at Oliver. “he´s just like his mother.”
There was an awkward silence, one that Oliver's father took care of filling by taking a drink from the can of beer he was carrying in his hand. “No, he...he's been a pretty good guest, my parents adore him.”
“Seriously, you don't have to be nice, not even because you're fucking him.” Felix was speechless, this was something he didn't expect, the man in front of him was not the same one he had talked to a week ago, it wasn't a guy. A father, concerned about his son's lack of communication, looked at Oliver, but he just remained crouched down, without saying a word. “When do you think you will return?” He asked turning to Oliver, the Omega tensed at the question.
“I… maybe after I finish university, sir” Felix heard the man snort.
“University,” he emphasized in a mocking tone. “You'll keep playing with it, spending my damn money, huh?” Oliver trembled at the words, lowering his head, “You and your mother always had stupid ideas.” Felix clenched his fists, trying to control the urge to throw a punch at that idiotic man. “You never understood what your place is, you know well that it is not in a university” Felix saw the man approach Oliver, while Oliver remained still, but still trembling in his place. “It’s here, in this house, fulfilling the tasks that your mother left unfinished, taking care of me, until i can sell you to an Alpha who will pay me well for you.”
Oliver felt how he was taken away from his father, almost dragged out of the porch of the house, the clean air, free of the stench that the beer produced on the man's breath, almost made him breathe in relief. “I think this was a mistake” He hears Félix say “Oliver, we're leaving.”
“Hey, you can't take my bitch” The man growls, leaving the porch, trying to chase Oliver, but Felix puts an arm around him and urges him to get into the jeep. Oliver is on automatic, he doesn't register anything, he just letting himself be guided by Félix to get out of there. “Oliver, on your knees” The effect of Oliver's father's voice is almost immediate, Oliver falls to his knees halfway to Felix's car, the Omega begins to sob, which makes his smell of anguish even stronger, Felix tries to pick him up, but Oliver is lost in his own instinct, he's not listening to Felix and that only makes the man's laughter louder and more annoying to the younger Alpha.
Felix wants to smash that disgusting idiot's head into the floor and he wanted to try, but Oliver's strong grip stops him. “Get me out of here, please” is a plea, one that now he doesn't hesitate to carry out, Felix knows he will. He had ruined himself by not listening when Oliver begged him to come back. He had been so locked in his illusion of being a savior for Oliver and his father's relationship that he didn't detect the lie in the older Alpha's voice, he didn't notice the false concern of the man, nor when Oliver was now showing clear signs of emotional abuse.
Félix takes Oliver in his arms and puts him into the jeep, he circles the car as fast as he can, especially when he sees the other Alfa trying to approach them to get Oliver out of the vehicle, Félix doesn't give him time to do that, but he does give him the opportunity to unleash more insults towards Oliver and towards the memory of his dead mother. Felix is now driving back, there is a look of regret on his face, one that turns guilty when he sees that Oliver has not stopped shaking while hugging his legs, the Omega now gives off a rather strong smell of anguish and hides his face between his knees in an attempt to silence the sobs.
“Ollie, I…” Felix knows that no matter what he tells Oliver, how sorry he is for what happened, no matter how many times he apologizes, none of that will make the pain Oliver feels in that moment go away, He has violated Oliver's trust, has betrayed him by ambushing him and bringing him to a place he clearly does not want to return to and from which he actively seeks to get away. “…I'm really sorry, even though-…”
“That's the problem, Félix, you never think” The words sound painful in Oliver's mouth, the worst thing is when the Omega stops hiding his face, his expression is indecipherable, but his eyes are flooded with tears that he refuses to let go, although they fall anyway. “Not in the others, at least” It is then that he looks at Felix, his blue gaze pierces his heart, there is annoyance and a slight touch of betrayal.
Felix has betrayed him.
“What did you intend with this?” He asks. “What the hell were you thinking, answering my phone, meeting my father, and sneaking me here despite what I told you?” Felix cannot respond to the Omega's words, because there is no response, he can give to justify his actions that, he now knows, were selfish, actions that were thought only of how good he would feel if he managed to reconcile Oliver and his father
By trusting a man who doesn't know much more than he knows Oliver, he believed that Ollie was exaggerating, that the Omega was even ashamed of his father, he didn't expect to find such a cesspool of shit, something much worse than what Oliver was telling, now he knew that Oliver was not ashamed of his father, what the Omega wanted was to avoid suffering the same fate as his mother.
“My mother always supported me when I managed to get scholarships at schools” Oliver had told her when they met. “She couldn't study after school, so she did everything so that I could.” Her mother was trapped in an abusive relationship and she had done everything so that her precious puppy would not suffer the same at the hands of his own father and then the Alpha to which is father intended to sell him.
They arrived at Saltburn in a painful silence for Félix, Oliver had stopped crying, just as he had stopped speaking to him, when Félix managed to park in front of the property, Oliver wasted no time, he directly got out of the jeep without saying anything, Félix hurriedly, he followed.
“Oliver” But the Omega did not stop at the Alpha's calls “Oliver, Ollie…” There was nothing to stop Oliver on his way to his room in Saltburn, Felix had tried to stop him, but the Omega was quick to close the door in the face, Felix did not give up, he had to apologize, he would do anything, he would give him whatever Oliver wanted if with that he earned the Omega's forgiveness.
Walking to his own room, he crossed the bathroom and entered Oliver's room. Felix stopped, the bitter smell of annoyance flying in the air and then he saw Oliver put his suitcase on the bed and begin to take his things out of the closets. wardrobes. “Ollie, what are you doing?” Oliver carelessly threw away a part of his clothes, he didn't care about arranging it, he didn't care if it got wrinkled or damaged, he needed to get out of there NOW.
“What do you think I do, Felix?” The Omega did not look at him, he continued doing his thing, no longer caring about the smell of desperation that Félix was beginning to release when he saw the Omega's actions. “I'm leaving here,” he stated, “I won't be anyone's charity project.”
“You're not a charity project, Oliver.” Oliver more roughly tossed another pile of clothes.
“Well, certainly, I am not your friend, much less anything else,” he reproached him. “A friend doesn't do what you've done with me, Felix,” he says in a tone that breaks the Alpha's heart, “And I'm already fed up, I've reached my limit, I've endured it for months, but I can't anymore, I just can't"
“What are you talking about, Ollie?” Felix sounded bewildered, surprised by the Omega's words, it was evident that his affection for Oliver was genuine. Why would Oliver doubt that? Oliver let out a broken laugh, resting his hands on his disorganized suitcase.
“I talk about your friends, making fun of me, belittling me for not being someone with resources” It begins and Félix feels that like stabs, remembering the derogatory words that Annabel had used against Oliver because of his clothes. “I'm talking about Farleigh trying to humiliate me at any given opportunity.” He knows he's referring to karaoke night at Felix's parents' dinner, when Farleigh, the idiot, had made Oliver sing that stupid song. "And I'm talking about you, airing every confidence, every intimacy said between us, being a topic of conversation between your parents and their friends." Now Oliver looks at him, piercing his soul with those blue eyes, he knows that he has broken everything he could have had with Oliver “I'm not a friend, Félix, much less a partner if that's what you intended by bringing me here” Oliver closes the zipper of his suitcase and takes it to head out of the room, Félix barely has time to react, to try Stopping Oliver as he watches him descend the spiral stairs with his suitcase in tow, Felix knows that the moment Oliver leaves Saltburn, he may not see him again.
He has hurt Oliver; he has betrayed Oliver's trust.
“Ollie, you can't leave like this” He tries again “My parents have organized everything, your party is ready” He tries on the kind side, he knows that Oliver, out of politeness, and a little out of guilt, will not reject the effort he makes. his parents have done to organize a party for him, a huge must come to Felix “You can't just walk away and let the party continue without the birthday boy” Felix thinks for a moment that it has worked, that it has made Oliver feel guilty enough not to leave, at least for that night. Oliver puts down his suitcase, turns around and approaches Felix.
The Alpha can smell the bitter annoyance, but there is also an anguished and hurt tinge, one that only makes Felix want to hug him, enclose him in his arms and protect him from everything that could hurt him, but he knows that Oliver will reject him, he will, because Felix has hurt Oliver much more than his father could have done in that dilapidated house.
"Your parents can continue with their stupid party and serve their stupid guests," the Omega tells him, with furious eyes, hurt eyes. "I'm sure that none of those two hundred people know who I am and they don't care to know either." Oliver turns his back and leaves the castle, Félix is still in a trance by Oliver's words, he does not register that the Omega has left until he hears the main door close, only until then Félix manages to move, he reaches the entrance, but Oliver is fast, despite carrying a suitcase and having short legs, he has already walked the path that leads out of the property.
He doesn't know when Oliver has ordered a taxi, but a vehicle is already waiting for him at the end of the path. Félix runs quickly, he knows that, if Oliver gets into that car, if the Omega leaves Saltburn, Félix will not see him again so remains of the summer and Oliver will most likely avoid it when it is time to return to Oxford.
He tries to run more, but he can only watch, helpless, as the Omega manages to get into the taxi, Félix is about to catch up with him when it is too late, the taxi starts moving and Félix cannot do anything to avoid it, he continues running, although with less enthusiasm, when he reaches the road, but he can't do anything, just watch the taxi go further and further down the road.
Félix can't help but feel the hole that settles in his heart, he doesn't want to accept that Oliver could have been right, he doesn't want to accept that now he will be the reason why Oliver doesn't trust people anymore, because Félix has shown him that He shouldn't do it, because if he does, they will only hurt him, like Felix just did.
“I don't trust in Alfas”
And Felix has now just given him one more reason not to do it.
