Work Text:
"You know what to do, Emilia. Don't make me disappointed."
Those were her father's last words before he died. Emilia had turned to her work after that. She would spend hours at her desk, trying to figure out the solution to the mutant problem.
Her mind kept repeating the same phrase for many months.
Make father proud. Make father proud. Make father proud.
His approval had always been the only thing that ever mattered. She had worked so hard her whole life to make him say that he was proud of her. She never got to hear those words.
Fixing the mutant problem was the only thing that was good enough for him. She'd figured that if she solved it, her life would have a purpose. She needed to honour her father's hard work, and every human that had failed before him.
She couldn't fail them all. Especially not her father.
She did everything she could to make sure that she was ahead of everyone else. She even murdered her own brother. She mind-controlled her former co-worker and she destroyed the home for hundreds of other humans. She attempted to murder a newborn baby, who later grew up into a thirteen year old girl whose goal was to stop Emilia from fulfilling her mission.
Emilia even turned herself into one of them to make sure that the humans would stay on top, just like before. She turned herself into a monster just to prove to herself that she could do it. That she was worthy. That her entire life's worth of hard work hadn't been for nothing.
She risked everything and everyone to make sure that she would succeed.
All to make him proud of her.
